variety.
Hi
all,
Welcome to today's
tournament report. I hope this writing finds you all well and winning.
Once again, the
weather was great. It was sunny and warm, another good day for dueling! A great
church service followed up by lunch at McDonalds and pizza for dinner after
dueling! Life is good.
We arrived at the
tournament about an hour before sign up so, we just hung out and I dueled a
little bit with a couple of decks and got killed mostly. I'm going to start work
on another deck soon, and I am taking apart my Warrior deck to do it. I've been
thinking about this deck for a long time, and I think I will go ahead and do it.
If it works, and wins, it'll be another funky formidable deck. If it doesn't
work, well, I'll throw it out and think of something
else.
Sticking with the
Monarch deck this week. It's fun, it's consistant and it's pretty
good.

I will say, trying to
remain as modest as possible, some other duelists have now begun to adapt their
decks to either include many of my strategies or counter them. I know for a
fact, one person has built his side deck specifically to counter my deck. Well,
that's the name of the game. This is one of the reasons I am going to work on
another deck type to totally screw over my meta again. I love the Monarch deck,
but if people consistantly start beating me with their counters and stuff, I
will go ahead and switch to something else.
ROUND 1
MONARCHS VS
UNUSUAL CHAOS
Unusual? Yes, it's a
little different Chaos. Interesting, but mainly annoying. Our duels were very
long and I think if our match were timed, it would have been called at fourty
minutes. I think we went on for over an hour, or close to
it.
GAME
1
I win the die roll and
go first. I get Bottomless, Metamorphosis, Mobius, Forceful, Zaborg and Snatch
Steal. I activate Forceful Sentry and see BLS (smeghead), and Fiber Jar and some
other stuff, but those were his only two monsters so, I put the Fiber back to
his deck. I set the Bottomless and have to end my turn. He can't hit me with
anything unless he draws a monster.
He sets 3 S/T and ends
his turn.
I draw Painful Choice
and he activates Jar of Greed. Hmm. OK. I play Painful and offer him Scientist,
Nimble, Breaker, Scapegoat and a Berserk. He gives me the Berserk and when I
summon him he Book of Moon's him.
He draws and plays
Card Destruction. He activates The Spell Absorbing Life and my Gorilla flips up,
it's automatically destroyed and he gains 400LP. Hmm. That was interesting. He
summons DD Warrior Lady and I Bottomless her.
I draw Call of the
Haunted and set a Nimble.
He Dust Tornados my
Call of the Haunted. Crap.
I flip up my Nimble
and attack. He thinks for a minute and takes the attack. I think he has Cylinder
set or something. I set Creature Swap.
He sets a
monster.
I summon a Gorilla,
and Swap my Nimble for his face down. It's a Spirit Reaper. I attack with the
Gorilla and he Cylinders. I knew that was
coming.
He Compulsory's the
Gorilla back to my hand and I think he should have put his Reaper back to his
own hand. I think that's a mistake. Does Compulsory specifically designate a
target? I don't think so. He summons a Spear Dragon and hits his Reaper.
I am actually losing
now, 4300 - 7400 but he now has no cards in his hand and I have 5. I draw Enemy
Controller and set it. I summon the Gorilla and turn the Reaper to attack. I hit
my Nimble with the Gorilla, get 1 more and then hit his defense position Spear
with the Reaper.
He draws a card and
ends his turn.
I tribute his Reaper
for Thestalos and take the only card he has from his hand and it's HIS
Thestalos. Hah. I attack with Thestalos, the Gorilla and a Nimble. I quickly get
him down to 400 when I hit a faced down DD Warrior Lady with my Berserk and then
I attack with the Nimble for the win. Go
Nimble!
GAME
2
I side deck 2
Kinetics, 3 Tigers, Royal Decree and Jinzo.
He goes first and sets
2 S/T.
I get Kinetic,
Morphing Jar, Enemy Controller, Premature Burial, Bottomless Trap Hole and
another Kinetic. I set the Morphing Jar and the
EC.
He activates another
annoying Spell Absorbing Life and then chains it with a Reload. He sets another
S/T card and a monster.
I draw a King Tiger
and summon a Kinetic and do not attack.
He activates Swords
and plays Card Destruction. I get another Tiger and a Gorilla. He gets Premature
Burial because he uses it to get Jinzo from the graveyard. He flips up his DD
Warrior Lady and I'm thinking, "This is gonna hurt" and it does. He smacks my
Kinetic with Jinzo, then hits me with DD for 1500 direct. I don't use my Enemy
Controller because I might need it for something
better.
I draw Snatch Steal. I
think about what my options are for a really long time. Unfortunately, the SoRL
is what is really killing me. I decided to Snatch Steal Jinzo, tribute it for
Enemy Contoller to take his DD Warrior Lady. I Premature Burial my Kinetic
Soldier and then summon a King Tiger Wanghu and set Bottomless Trap Hole and end
my turn. That's about the best I could do since I couldn't attack his DD with
the Jinzo I Snatched.
He MST's my Bottomless
and summons a Berserk. He attacks my Kinetic with the Gorilla and turns the DD
to defense.
I draw Ring, set it
and summon a Gorilla and end my turn. I plan on Ringing either DD or his
Gorilla.
He Hammer Shot's my
Gorilla and I'm forced to Ring his. Ouch. He ends his turn. I don't understand
why he just doesn't hit my Tiger with DD and remove him from play. I guess he
has no other protection to his LP.
I draw Metamorphosis
and set it as a bluff and end my turn.
He Snatch's my Tiger
and that nearly kills me. I think I got down to 300LP but, gained 1000 during my
Standby phase but, I drew Mobius and had to
conceed.
GAME
3
Well, the Kinetics
really weren't that effective since he ran with the Gorilla, so I took them out
and one of the Tigers for my Nimbles. The Royal Decree wasn't a factor. I put
the third Scapegoat back in, because it was the one card I really could have
used at the time.
I go first and get
Scientist, Premature Burial, MST, Change of Heart, Ring of Destruction and Fiber
Jar. That is really a crappy hand.
I set Fiber Jar, Ring and the
MST.
He sets 2 S/T and
summons Sasuke Samurai and I immediately Ring that little !@#$%$! He ends his turn and I MST his Compulsory in
the end phase.
I flip Fiber Jar and
get a Tiger, Nimble, Gorilla, Enemy Controller and Metamorphosis. I summon the
Gorilla, set the EC and attack for 2000LP
damage.
He plays Pot, draws
two cards and MSTs my set Enemy Controller and sets a monster.
I draw a Nimble and
summon a Tiger and he Trap Hole's it. Hmm. OK. Don't see too many Trap Hole
nowadays. I end my turn because I don't want to hit a DD Warrior Lady if he has
one set.
He Hammer Shot my
Gorilla. Man, that's annoying. He sets another monster. He flips up his Spirit
Reaper to attack and I activate Scapegoat.
Whew.
I draw Bottomless,
Morph a token to take his Reaper and set a Nimble. I set the BTH,
too.
He activates Swords,
flips up my Nimble, then flips Cyber Jar. He only gets a Goblin and I get a
NImble and set it, then Bottomless his Goblin. He summons another Sasuke Samurai
and doesn't attack.
I ask him why he
didn't attack and he said it would be as a result of battle and I tell him
Sasuke destroys the monster by effect, not battle. He said he didn't know and I
said I could be wrong so, we let it go at that. I set another Goat and he chains
Dust Tornado. I tribute my Nimble for Zaborg and destroy his Samurai. He
Compulsory's the Zaborg back to my hand and I get more annoyed. I set Creature
Swap and end my turn. That's annoying. Annoying. Did I metion that was annoying?
I think I did.
He sets every S/T card
and activates Jar of Greed.
I summon Breaker and
do nothing. Swords is out and I don't want to break that, yet. He has no
monsters and he doesn't respond to Breaker's summon so, I'm good for now.
He draws Exiled Force
and uses it on my Breaker. This is REALLY annoying! I would rather him attack me
for 8000LP damage in one turn than do this annoying stuff.
I draw a Gorilla and
end my turn. Swords is finally gone.
He Compulsorys my
Gorilla back to my hand! ARGH! He summons DD Warrior Lady and attacks for
1500.
I activate Swords and
he Magic Drains it and I discard a Metamorphosis. I summon a Gorilla and say, "I
bet one of those cards is Cylinder". I attack into a Cylinder. Heh. Can I call
it, or what? Finally, he only has one card in his S/T
zone.
He does nothing on his
turn.
I draw a Zaborg and
tribute the Gorilla for it and take out his DD Warrior Lady and attack. I'm
winning 4000 - 3100 but this duel is really getting under my
skin.
He Fissures my Zaborg.
Ohhhhhboy, this is annoying me to the height of annoyingness! He summons a Spear
Dragon and attacks.
I draw Bottomless and
set it. I summon TiV and he Rings it but, I use priority to discard for dragon.
Now it's 2400 - 1500.
He draws and sets
another S/T.
I draw Twin Headed
Behemoth and summon it and attack. He activates Spell Absorbing Life to the
attack and I'm thinking, "Well, you can't be down to 0 LP and then go up 400LP?"
But I let him have it anyway because I think I have this game won
now.
He draws and sets a
monster.
I draw Magical
Scientist and paid 1000LP for TER and suck up his set Fiber Jar! Yes! I end my
turn.
He draws and top decks
Change of Heart! He takes my Scientist, tributes it for Jinzo and hits my
Behemoth, taking me down to 500LP. Someone behind me (who needs to shut up)
says, "Ohhh, you're gonna lose now." I turn to look at him and show him my set
Enemy Controller and said, "It doesn't matter." My Behemoth comes back at
the end phase and I turn it to attack position and Swap it for his Jinzo and
attack for the match.
People should shut up
when they don't know what they're talking
about.
ROUND 2
MONARCHS VS
PANDAS
This is another of my
decks. The infamous Panda Power deck. I've been working on it for a while but it
just doesn't seem to be as much of a winner as it has been in the past. Oh well.
I'll keep working on it.
I lose the die roll.
He summons a Gorilla, sets one S/T and ends his
turn.
I have an advantage
because I built this deck, so I know what's in it. I'm not really afraid of many
of the trap cards, because it's not a terribly defensive deck. I need to fix
that. I get Enemy Controller, Zaborg, Painful Choice, Gorilla, Nimble and
NoC. I draw MST and play Painful Choice. I offer him a Goat, Morphing Jar,
Nimble, Gorilla and the Behemoth. He gives me the Behemoth. I shuffle my cards a
little and set the Behemoth and the Enemy
Controller.
He summons Asura
Priest and attacks my Behemoth and the attacks with the Gorilla for 2000. I get
the Twin Head back.
I MST his Ring and he
chains it to my Behemoth. I didn't like that at all. I set a
Nimble.
He summns Enraged
Battle Ox and I'm forced to Enemy Controller his Gorilla. He hits a Nimble with
the Ox and I get the last one to the field.
I draw Ring, set it
and flip up my Nimble to attack position. I summon a Gorilla, attack his Ox with
it and then attack directly with the Nimble. Go
Nimble!
He summons a Panda!
Whoops! I ring it for 1800LP damage to both of us.
I draw Zaborg and he
activates Ojama Trio. I'm way ahead in LP so I tribute my Nimble for Zaborg,
destroy a token and take the 300LP damage and attack for the
win.
GAME
2
He side decks and I
don't.
He sets 2 S/T and ends
his turn. I draw Change of Heart, Sinister, Heavy Storm, 2 Mobius and a Gorilla.
In retrospect, I should have Heavy Stormed because I know most of the S/T cards
in the deck are chainable. I set the Heavy and summon a Gorilla and he Book of
Moon's it.
He NoC's my Gorilla
and I don't know if I would have done that. He sets another S/T and ends his
turn. Oh. Ok. He HAD to Nobleman it.
I draw Creature Swap.
I set Sinister and end my turn.
He activates Ojama
Trio and summons a Panda. Fragenjaxamunkey, this is going to hurt. He attacks a
token for 2100LP damage. Ouch. That's the power of the Panda.
I draw Twin Headed
Behemoth. I play Heavy Storm this time and get rid of his Book of Moon. I Change
his Panda, then tribute it for Mobius and attack. I set the Creature Swap
because I have nothing better to set!
He sets a monster and
one S/T and ends.
I tribute my Sinster
for the other Mobius and he Rings it. I attack his Fiber Jar and that sucks. I
get Behemoth, Metamorphosis, Bottomless, Sinster and Swords. I take a risk
and set only the Bottomless.
He sets 2 S/T and
summons a Gorilla and I Bottomless it. Good call on my
part.
I draw a Scapegoat and
he activates Ojama Trio. I chain the Scapegoat and he fusses over that a little
bit, but since it's a quick play and can be activated from my hand in my draw
phase, I have my tokens instead of his. I activate Swords and end my
turn.
Well, Metamorphosis
comes on out after he summons an Ox locks him down for the rest of the duel. He
got a Panda out at 2800 attack, but a Creature Swap took care of that and I took
the match.
SEMI -
FINALS
MONARCHS VS BEATDOWN
GAME
1
I win the die roll and
go first. I get Enemy Controller, Swords, Zaborg, Behemoth, Swap and
Metamorphosis. I set the Behemoth and Enemy
Controller.
He summons a Gorilla,
and attacks my Behemoth. He sets an S/T.
I tribute the Behemoth
for Zaborg, destroying his Gorilla and attack into a Cylinder. I activate
Swords.
He Snatch's my Zaborg
and tributes if for Mobius destroying my EC, which I chain.
I draw another Swap
and that sucks. I wish I had a monster to Swap with!
He summons a Goblin
and attacks me for 4700LP. The Cylinder already hit me for 2400 so I'm at 900LP
already.
I draw a Gorilla,
summon it, attack his GAF then Swap it for
Mobius.
He summons DD Warrior
Lady and kills his own Mobius and the hits me with Gorilla for the worst beating
I have EVER gotten using the Monarch deck.
GAME
2
He side decks and I
don't.
Check out the
incredible top decks during this duel. I only wish they had been
mine.
I draw 2 Nimble, Heavy
Storm, Mobius, Swap and Forceful Sentry. I set the Nimble and the Swap and play
Forceful Sentry. He's holding THREE Smashing Ground, Waboku and Premature
Burial! I give him the Premature Burial to keep, then mix up all the rest of the
cards and tell him to randomly pick one. He picks one of the Smashing Ground and
it goes back into his deck.
He draws and sets a
couple of S/T cards. I'm guessing one is Waboku for
sure.
I set another Nimble.
He does
nothing.
I draw Thestalos and
know I am going to sacrifice him. I tribute the Nimble for Thestalos and take
out another of his Smashing Ground. I attack and he activates Waboku.
Surprise. He plays
Smashing Ground on Thestalos. Only one in the deck now.
Hooray.
I set Sinister, flip
up the Nimble to attack and he Book of Moons
it.
He summons TiV and
attacks my Serpent.
I draw Metamorphosis
and set Bottomless.
He tributes for Mobius
and I Bottomless him. He Premature Burials
Tribe.
I draw Zaborg and do
not want to tribute for him yet. I play Heavy Storm on his
Premature.
Top deck #1. He draws
Heavy Storm and plays it. He summons a King Tiger and I know he's put this in
the deck just for me. He activates Swords and flips up my Nimble. We discuss if
the Nimble is destroyed by the Tiger's effect and we both agree it isn't because
it was on the field before the Tiger, even though it was face down. He attacks
it and I gain 1000LP but all my Nimbles are gone
now.
I draw Scapegoat and
set Sinister. Yes the Tiger is hurting me now.
Top Deck #2. He draws
Nobleman of Crossout and gets rid of my Serpent. He attacks with the
Tiger.
I draw Twin Headed
Behemoth and this could be good. I set the Twin
Head.
Top Deck #3. He draws
the second Nobleman of Crossout! In a row! He X's out my Twin Head and now I'm
really hurting.
I draw a Gorilla and
this could save my booty. I wish Swords was gone! I summon the Gorilla and end
my turn.
Top Deck #4. He draws
Pot of Greed and draws 2 cards, one of which is Book of Moon. He attacks my
Gorilla and I am feeling disaster looming over
me.
I draw Painful Choice,
offer some stuff that could all work for me, 2 Gorilla, Breaker, Snatch and
Change. He gives me a Gorilla.
I summon it and end my
turn. Thankfully Swords is gone.
Top Deck #5. He draws
a Gorilla and summons it, suiciding with mine, then attacks me with the Tiger
again. Man. I can't get rid of that Tiger, no matter how hard I
try!
I draw Enemy
Controller and set it.
He summons Cyber Jar,
thinking he's going to finish me off but the Tiger destroys it. OopS!
I draw another
Scapegoat and can't do jack. I have to EC the Tiger just to stop an attack but,
I end up with three Scapegoat and 2 Metamorphosis and
lose.
What an incredible top
decking experience for my opponent. That was wiggety -
wack!
I get a chance to go
for third place.
FIGHTING FOR
MONARCHS VS COPY CAT CONTROL WHO MADE HIS
OWN BEATDOWN DECK
Ok. This is Mr. Copy
Cat who says he built his own deck. It's a beatdown. This guy is so funny. He's
really annoying and bothers people. He has a mouth like a sailor, but has the
nerve to tell me one of the boys I brought with me was cussing. He finally got
his little Black Luster Soldier and he shows it to me and waves it around and
I'm like whatever. Oh well. At least he's not going to win the
tournament.
GAME
1
This turns out to be
another disaster for me. He beats me about as quickly as I had gotten beaten in
the first game of the Semifinals. Smashing Ground, Nobleman of Crossout and
Change of Heart do me in early. Another top decking miracle for my opponent. I
did no damage to him at all. It was ugly.
GAME
2
A reverse of game 1.
Zaborg takes care of all his monsters and Tribe comes through in the end,
getting rid of his Spirit Reaper and he
conceeds.
GAME
3
Top decking is the key
to today's duels. My bad top decking verses my opponents good top
decking.
He choses to go first
and plays Pot, activates Swords, sets a monster and ends his
turn.
I draw Ring, Swords,
Swap, Bottomless, Metamorphosis and then and Enemy Controller. Great. This is
one of the worst hands ever.
I play Swords and he's all, "OK". I tell him his
monster flips up. Its a Spirit Reaper. He plays like a little mouse. He's jumpy,
bounces up and down in his seat and gets terribly excited. He always wants to
rush things by asking, "My go? My go?" I set Ring and Bottomless and end my
turn.
He plays Giant Trunade
and chain the Ring to his Reaper. He says, "That ruins my plans." He summons a
Gorilla, attacks me for 2000Lp and activates Swords
again.
I draw Zaborg. I go
ahead and EC his Gorilla and activate Swords and set the
Bottomless.
He summons a Luster
and I Bottomless it.
I draw a Nimble and
set it and Swap.
Top deck #1. He
summons Exiled on my Nimble and gets rid of
it.
I draw another Nimble
and set it.
Top deck #2 He draws
Nobleman of Crossout and uses it on my Nimble. He summons a Spear Dragon and
can't attack because of Swords.
I draw Morphing Jar
and Swap it with his Spear and attack it. I set Metamorphosis and end my
turn.
Top deck #3. He draws
another Spear Dragon and hits me for 1900.
Top deck #4. I finally
have a great top deck! It's Pot of Greed! All Right! I activate it and draw
Zaborg and Mobius! Crap! That's horrible. I already have a Zaborg in my hand I
can't do anything with! I have three tributes in my hand and nothing on the
field!
Top Deck #5 He draws
and summons Tribe and I have to Call a Nimble back. He can't discard but attacks
me and I gain 1000LP but it's too little to late. I draw a Metamorphosis next
turn and conceed.
Oh well. It wasn't
meant to be for me today.
It was getting late
and we headed on home in time to watch some of the Super Bowl. I really wasn't
interested in the game anyway and didn't really care one way or the other who
won.
Until next time, happy
dueling!
