Hi all,
Welcome to today's
tournament report. I hope this writing finds you well and
winning!
I usually attend two
tournaments each weekend but, due to an ice storm here in the sunny south, I was
only able to attend one on Sunday. I think the weather held up some people so,
we had a smaller crowd than usual.
Last week the Monarch

all.

a little warmer and all the ice had pretty much melted by the time we left for
the tournament. We got there a little early and did a little trading.
ROUND 1
MONARCHS VS
COPY CAT CONTROL
This is the guy who
copied another person's deck and I have pretty much shut him down after my first
loss to him. I really did not want to lose to him in the first round. He did
make a couple of changes to the deck and said he was going to build his own
beatdown deck for next week. Good.
GAME
1
I win the die roll and
choose to go first. I get TiV, Fiber, Metamorphosis, Breaker, Gorilla and Heavy
Storm. I summon the Gorilla, set the Metamorphosis and end my
turn.
He draws and plays
Giant Trunade (well, it's better than MST). He sets 2 S/T, uses Change of Heart
to get my Gorilla, summons Exiled Force, attacks me for 3000LP damage and then
tributes Exiled to get rid of my Gorilla. Well, he just practically dumped his
entire hand that turn.
I draw Forceful and
take the only card he has in his hand and returns his Tomato to his deck. I play
Heavy Storm and he chains his Time Seal but loses his Call of the Haunted. I
summon Breaker, set the Metamorphosis again and attack him for
1900.
He draws and ends his
turn.
I can't draw, so I
just attack him with Breaker again for 1900.
He draws and sets a
monster.
I draw Change of
Heart, take his set Tomato, summon Tribe and attack him with all of them for the
win.
GAME
2
I go to my side deck
and put in 3 King Tiger Wanghu and 2 Magic
Drains.
He choses to go first
and sets 1 S/T and summons Don Zaloog.
I draw Breaker, 2
Enemy Controller, Zaborg, Thestalos and Metamorphosis. Junk. Hmm. Well, I need
to maybe stall for a bit if I can. I summon Breaker and he Torrentials. Hmm.
That's not good. I set the E.C. and end my
turn.
He summons a Gorilla,
Prematures his Don and I E.C. the Gorilla, destroying it. He attacks with the
Don and takes Thestalos out of my hand. I don't care. He probably does me better
in the graveyard anyway.
I draw Pot of Greed,
activate it and get MST and Creature Swap. I MST his Premature and set the other
Enemy Controller.
He MST's my E.C. and
summons another Don and attacks. This time he takes out my Zaborg. I feel the
duel start to slip out of my control.
I draw a Tiger, summon
him and attack his Don. Ok. I might be ok now. I set
Metamorphosis.
He draws, sets a
monster and activates Swords.
I draw Ring and set
it.
He sets an S/T and
ends.
I draw Heavy Storm and
end.
He Fissures my Tiger,
summons Exiled Force and attacks for 1000 and activates Time
Seal.
I can't draw, so I do
nothing.
He flips his Fiber Jar
and I think about Ringing either Fiber or his Exiled but decide not to. I get
Zaborg, Thestalos, Change of Heart, Snatch Steal and Scapegoat. He sets 2 S/T,
summons a Gorilla and attacks for 2000.
I am losing 2200 -
6900 when I draw Tribe Infecting Virus. I summon TiV, he Rings it and I discard
for beast. We both take 1600. I set the
Scapegoat.
Now I'm down to 600LP.
He MSTs my Goat and I chain it. He sets one S/T and ends his turn. That was
lucky.
He Drops Off my Call
of the Haunted and I don't care. I end my
turn.
He uses Call of the
Haunted to get his Gorilla back and attacks one of my
tokens.
I use Change of Heart
on his Gorilla and tribute it for my Zaborg and destroy a token. I attack him
for 2400LP.
He draws and sets one
S/T.
I summon Breaker and
he does not respond. I remove the token to destroy his set Giant Trunade (he was
bluffing) and attack him with Breaker and Zaborg for the
win.
Whew. That was close.
A good come from behind victory for the
Monarchs.
ROUND 2
I GET A
BYE. Yea!
ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS
ZOMBIE
GAME
1
He wins the die roll
and choses to go first. He summons a Pyramid Turtle, sets one S/T and ends his
turn.
I draw Pot of Greed,
MST, Call of the Haunted, Premature Burial, Bottomless Trap Hole and a Nimble. I
play Pot and get Fiber Jar and Breaker. I set the Bottomless, the MST and the
Nimble.
He MSTs my Bottomless
and attacks my Nimble. I gain 1000LP and get two more Nimbles to the
field.
I draw Mobius and set
my Fiber Jar. I do not want to attack his Turtle, nor tribute for
Mobius.
He attacks my Fiber
Jar with the Turtle and I get Heavy Storm, Swords, Forceful Sentry, Painful
Choice and a Nimble. He sets a S/T and summons a Turtle. Hmm. Deja
Vu.
Deja Vu. What? Ha. I
draw Fiber Jar. I play Forceful Sentry and take out his Exiled Force. I activate
Painful Choice and offer him Ring, Scapegoat, Swap, BTH and Snatch Steal. He
gives me the Ring. I activate Heavy Storm on his Waboku, which he chains. I set
the Ring and activate Swords.
He turns his Turtle to
defense and ends his turn.
I draw a Gorilla, set
Fiber Jar and end my turn.
He tributes for
Vampire Lord and ends his turn.
I flip my Fiber Jar
and get Bottomless, 2 Metamorphosis, Mobius and a Scapegoat. Not what I wanted.
I set the Scapegoat and Bottomless and end my
turn.
He summons Breaker and
I Bottomless him.
I draw Sinster and set
it.
He summons Exiled
Force and tributes it to destroy my Sinister. LOL. He sets one S/T and
ends.
I set Sinister end my
turn.
He summons a Spirit
Reaper and attacks and I activate Scapegoat.
I Morph a token into
TER and take his Spirit Reaper. We come to the conclusion that TER doesn't
specifically designate a target. I think that is right. I attack him for
300.
He uses Call of the
Haunted to get Exiled Force back, summons TiV and discards for Spellcaster and
beast. He Exiles my Serpent, then uses 2 Book of Life to get his Reaper and a
Patrician of Darkness back. He takes my Sinster and the TER out of play. Then he
attacks for a lot. Ouch.
I draw a Scapegoat.
Whew. I set it.
He attacks and I chain
the Goat. He hits three tokens and doesn't use TiV's effect to get rid of the
4th token.
I Morph a token into
TER and take his TiV. He asks why I didn't take the Patrician to attack his TiV
and I tell him I don't want his TIV in the Graveyard where he can get it back. I
set Call of the Haunted.
He draws, sets a
monster and has to end his turn.
I draw Painful Choice
and offer him two Zaborg, Magical Scientist, Ring and Swords. He gives me the
Scientist. I pay 1000LP for a TER and take his set Pyramid Turtle. I end my
turn.
He plays Heavy Storm
and I go ahead and chain my EC to his Patrician.
I draw Tribe, suck up
his Patrician with TER, tribute the Scientist for Zaborg and destroy his Spirit
Reaper.
He uses Call of the
Mummy to bring out Ryu Kokki. He pays 800LP to Premature Burial his TiV and
discards for Spellcaster and attacks my set Nimble with TiV. I gain 1000Lp and
get two more Nimbles and set them both. He suicides with Zaborg and the Ryu
Kokki.
I flip up both Nimbles
to attack position, summon TiV and discard the only card in my hand to destroy
both our Tribe's and attack with both Nimbles for the win! Go NIMBLE! I could
have just attacked his TiV with mine. Duh.
GAME
2
I side deck 8 cards.
Drains, Jammers, Torrential and King Tigers.
He goes first and sets
one S/T and a monster.
I draw Breaker, Ring,
Swap, Torrential, Fiber Jar and Zaborg. I summon Breaker, set Ring and end my
turn. I am not going to attack if his set monster is a Turtle, which I
suspect.
He flips Cyber Jar.
Mmmm. Maybe I should have attacked it? Oh well. I get 2 Berserk Gorilla and he
gets a Spear Dragon (? In a zombie deck?) He also gets some good support cards
like Change of Heart and Pot. He tributes his Spear Dragon for Jinzo. Dang, I
should have RoD'd the Spear. He Prematures the Spear Dragon. He uses Change on
my Gorilla and suicides with mine and hits me with Jinzo and the Spear Dragon
for for 4300. That's like, OUch, man!
I draw a Magic Drain
and play my Pot. I get Change of Heart and Metamorphosis! What the? That's cool,
I've always wanted to do this! I use Change of Heart on his Jinzo and Morp it to
Ryu Senshi! WoOT! He Torrentials. MAN! I go ahead and pay the 1000LP to negate
it. CRAP! I attack for 2000. I set the Drain, the Jammer, the Scapegoat and the
Swap for the heck of it because, what have I got to lose?
He activates Call of
the Mummy. I Magic Drain it. He activates another Call of the Mummy. I Jam it.
LOL. He activates Heavy Storm. I chain my Scapegoat and he chains his and I
laugh and tell him he can't summon now. Homer moment for him! DOH! He does get
to set a monster, and he does.
I draw Premature
Burial and attack a token. I am not attacking his set monster. It could be a
Turtle. I set the Premature as a bluff.
He tributes his Turtle
for VLord and kills my Ryu Senshi. Awww.
I'm losing big time,
2700 - 7200 when I draw a Magic Jammer and set it. I also set Fiber
Jar.
He activates Nobleman
of Crossout and I Jam it! Horray. He activates a second NoC and I get a little
ticked off at that. WT? Ok, a
Well, without going
into the gory details, he Snatchs my Gorilla and hits me with it and a Pyramid
Turtle for the win.
GAME
3
I side deck out the
two Jammers for a Goat and E.C. I didn't think the Jammers really helped me at
all.
I get Sinster,
Metamorphosis, Magic Drain, Zaborg, Breaker and Torrential. Meh. We'll see what
happens with this hand. I set the Serpent and the Magic
Drain.
He sets one S/T,
summons a Spear Dragon and wacks my Serpent pretty good. Crap. He activates
Painful Choice and I Magic Drain it. He doesn't discard and that's a GOOD thing.
I summon the Serpent
and Morph it to TER and take his Spear Dragon. I attack and he activates
Scapegoat. I hit a token. I set Torrential and end my
turn.
He Creature Swaps my
TER for a token and attacks it. Crap.
I draw Enemy
Controller and set it.
He attacks with TER
and I take the damage.
I'm losing 4450 - 8000
when I draw Twin Headed Behemoth. Hmm. Should I summon it and Torrential or set
it and hope he summons something else? I set the
Behemoth.
He summons Exiled
Force and I Torrential. Perfect. He says he should have not summoned. Too late
now. He pays 800LP to Premature Burial his Spear Dragon and I EC it and turn it
to defense.
I tribute my Twin Head
for Zaborg, destroy his Spear Dragon and hit him for 2400LP. I set Bottomless
Trap Hole.
He activates Call of
the Mummy and special summons Ryu Kokki which I Bottomless! Then he special
summons Patrician of Darkness. Oh yeah, I've got him on the run!
I summon Breaker,
attack Patrician with Zaborg, then directly for 1900. In my main phase 2, I
remove the token from Breaker to get rid of his Call of the Mummy. I don't want
any more nasty zombies jumping at me from out of nowhere. Heh. Looking
good.
He can't do anything
on his turn and conceeds. It's another come from behind victory for the
Monarchs!
FINALS
MONARCHS
VS BEATDOWN
This young man usually
plays warrior/chaos so, I'm thinking that's what I am facing. Well, after the
first couple of draws, I know he's running a pretty straight up beatdown.
Nothing fancy, just clear out the field and attack. It's a good, solid strategy
and one I use in my own beatdown deck. It's simple, effective and hard to stop.
He is also a stickler
for rulings and seems to be aware of every little rule about every little detail
of every card and chaining and priority and blah, blah, blah and sometimes it
gets really annoying. It sucks all the fun out of it. Today, a couple of
"questionable" rulings came up and I didn't feel like debating so, I let him
have them. One of the "rulings" was iffy, and the other was downright RETARDED
and made absolutely NO SENSE!
GAME
1
I go first and get
Bottomless, Premature, Gorilla, E.C., Scapegoat and MST. Hmmm. Ok I guess. I
summon the Gorilla and set Bottomless and Scapegoat. I was really debating on
only setting one of the two, but I go ahead and set
both.
He activates Smashing
Ground on my Gorilla. Boo. He sets a monster and and one
S/T.
At this point, I'm
still guessing he's running warrior so, I think his set monster is DD Warrior
Lady. I draw Painful Choice and MST his Dust Tornado which he chains to my
Bottomless. Dang. Oh well. I play Painful Choice and offer him Scientist, NoC,
Change of Heart, Swords and Swap. He gives me the Scientist which was the one
card I really didn't want. Oh well. I summon the Scientist, pay 1000LP for
Baltar and attack his Sinister. Well, that's kind of ok. I hated wasting 1000Lp
on Sinister but, it doesn't come back so, that's good. I attack him for 300 with
the Scientist.
He summons a Gorilla
and attacks my Scientist. Now I know he is NOT running his warrior deck when the
Gorilla shows up.
I draw a Nimble and
set it.
He NoC's my Nimble
(OuCh) and attacks with the Gorilla and I activate Scapegoat. He attacks a
token.
I draw another Nimble
and set it and Enemy Controller.
He uses Change of
Heart on my Nimble. Dude! This guy is out drawing me like crazy! He summons
another Gorilla and attacks all my tokens.
Ouch. I'm getting
whooped! I draw Fiber Jar and set it.
He summons Magical
Scientist! OH CRAP! I can't get a break! I chain Enemy Controller and give up my
Nimble to take his Scientist. He attacks it with a Gorilla, then attacks my
Fiber Jar with the other Gorilla. Man, that's brutal. I get Sinister, Ring,
Snatch, Scapegoat and a Nimble. He sets 2 S/T and ends his
turn.
I summon a Nimble, set
Ring and the Goat and attack into a Cylinder. Ok. He's going to Cylinder me for
1000LP damage. Whatever.
He uses Smashing
Ground on my Nimble. Man, I'm startin' to hate on those Smashing Ground. He
summons a Gorilla and attacks. I activate
Scapegoat.
I draw Zaborg, Snatch
his Gorilla, tribute it for Zaborg, destroy a token and
attack.
He summons Breaker and
I Ring him. He uses Smashing Ground on my Zaborg. !@#$%^&!
I draw a Goat, summon
my own Breaker and attack for 1900. I'm coming back. It's now 2600 - 3400. I set
the Scapegoat.
He summons TiV and
discards for Spellcaster and Beast. He discarded all the cards he had in his
hand. He attacks and I activate the other
Scapegoat.
I draw Sinister and
set it. Well, he gets his Sinister, discards for beast and destroys all my
tokens. He attacks my Sinister and then top decks Nobleman of Crossout and
removes it from play and that's all she wrote. I can't recover after that and I
lose.
Good
duel.
GAME
2
Here's where it gets
STOOPID!
I side deck in two
Drains and Torrential. I go first and draw Magic Drain, Gorilla, Scientist,
Ring, Metamorphosis and Sinister. I set the Drain, summon the Gorilla and end my
turn.
He summons Breaker and
removes the token to get rid of my Drain. He uses Smashing Ground on my Gorilla.
!@$%^*&^$! How many of those things
are in his deck, 30? He attacks me for 1600.
Questionable Ruling
#1. I summon Sinister and Morph it to TER and use priority to take his Breaker.
He activates Ring of Destruction on my TER, destroying it for 0 damage and
taking his Breaker back because TER's effect can't resolve. This seems kind of
fishy but, I guess with the chaining rules, it's correct.
He attacks with
Breaker and I Ring him. He sets 2 S/T and a monster. I play Painful Choice and
offer Heavy Storm, Swords, NoC, Swap and Change of Heart. He gives me Swords and
I activate it and flip up his Scientist. I summon a Nimble and
attack.
STOOPID RULING #2.
This is so freaking bogus it makes my head spin. When I attack with the Nimble,
he activates Sakuretsu Armor then chains Magic Cylinder, claiming I take 1000LP
damage from Cylinder AND my monster is destroyed! What the? That has to be one
of the most retarded things I have ever heard! If a chain resolves backwards,
the Cylinder NEGATES the attack, so how in the freakin' world can Sakuretsu
Armor destroy my Nimble if Cylinder negated the attack?!?! He claims Konami says
it works and he doesn't understand why and I say it's stupid and he says "That's
the ruling" and I'm like "What?" This really ticks me off because he and I both
know that is stupid, but he goes and sets those two cards WANTING to do the
combo on me because Konami says its right, and on a freaking Nimble Momanga at
that! I tell him I do not care how many little pieces of paper he shows me
or how much he downloads from the Internet, that ruling, if true, is completely
BOGUS! I don't care any more at this point and let him have the dumb ruling
because you can't debate with a "rule master" because it's pointless and futile.
He says he'll take it back, but I simply don't care, because at this point the
game has CEASED to be FUN and it is sucked into a dark hole of nit picky ruling
debates and has suddenly become a chore.
I stop taking notes
and don't give a freakin' rip because all I want to do now get my packs for
second place and go home. I stop playing the game and pretty much let him win.
Better to take second place with honor than first place because of
"rulingaphobia".
Well, I get my packs
and pull nothing usefull. Figures.
That's it for this
weekend! I hope you all have a great week and, until next time, happy
dueling!
