This was one of the funnest, best, and overall nerve-racking tourneys I've ever
been in. We started out by getting 6 packs of Hobby version 1st edition FET
packs. We went into the back room, opened the packs, and built a 40-54 card
deck. Nothing. omg nothing good. No Vortex, no Swordsman, no Phoenix. Well, I
was very miffed about not getting a single super/ultra/ultimate rare card out of
6 freakin random packs. Then I start, and keep, hearing 'OMG he got 2 Ultimate
Rare Silent Swordsman LV5, and Lightning Vortex AND the Phoenix!', 'Wow, I got
the phoenix and the Behemoth!', 'Oh wow, I got everything that kid overthere
didn't!!!' >_<

MATCH #1: Alex vs. James
Duel #1: I haven't seen this guy in a long time, since we both registered
together a long time ago. He only got 100 damage on me the first duel. I mainly
used my 1500 ATK's to damage him and destroy his F/D monsters. Insect Knight
rained supreme as well. The duel didn't take long to win, only 3 strikes before
he gave up. WIN.
Me: 8000-7900
James: 8000-4600-3100-0
Duel #2: He got me back this time. I was able to use Golem Sentry to keep
bouncing his monsters back this time, and clear the way for other ATK's. My
phoenix trap card was a life saver, unfortunately he was abel to get out his
Insect Knight and run me over, and I couldn't get anything to stop him after
that. LOSS.
Me: 8000-7300-5000-2400-0
James: 8000-7000-6800-4800-3800-3400
Duel #3: I was able to use superior tactics to win this one. I used my
beatdowners to... beat him down >_> with a big strike from two powered-up
Chu-Ske's, Insect Knight, and a Wind Prodigy, and then at the end of the duel,
with him only at 600, I rammed my Mecha-Dog Marron into his insect Knight to win
the duel. Awesomeness. WIN.
Me: 8000-7600-6600
James: 8000-7900-7100-600-0
MATCH #2: Alex vs. Jordan
Duel #1: This guy decided to go the 'unadvisable' route and use all 54 cards in
his deck. He had 3 iInsect Knights in his deck, so I just KNEW this wasn't going
to last very long for me. Luckly, he didn't get ANY of them out this duel. I
kept using my 1500 ATK's to wear him down 3 times in a row, with the help of
golem sentry, then a 3000 hit with 2 of them, then I again rammed my Mecha-Dog
Marron into a stronger monster to win. WIN.
Me: 8000-7600-6500-6100-5100
Jordan: 8000-6500-5000-3500-500-0
Duel #2: I dreaded dueling him after I heard he had 3 1900 ATK's in his deck. He
unfortunately got 2 of them out this duel. This duel mostely consisted of me on
the defensive. I tried to stop him, but without any monster destruction cards,
it was impossible. LOSS.
Me: 8000-7300-6900-3500-1500-0
Jordan: 8000-7700
Duel #3: This one was quite nerve-racking. I was able to start out with
Shadowslayer, with him having one defense mode monster. I got a hit on him and
ended my turn. Then he plays IK, so I use Threatening Roar to stop any attacks.
I then play Kangaroo Champ and suicide his IK to switch him to defense mode, and
then I attack again with Shadowslayer. I then, a few turns later I think, get
him to 2500. He has been hitting me a few times here and there, getting in
little bits of damage. This duel takes longer than normal, and I see the Judge
walking with the watch in his hand, watching the remaining time for the duel. I
get a drastic plan... stalling! So with me at the higher LP's, I do any little
thing I can to stall for just a bit more time. Eventually, he locks me with his
IK on the field, no possible way for me to win at this point. So I then end my
turn, and then when he draws, time is called. He attacks and ends, ending the
duel, but the attack is not enough for him to win. Nice plan me. WIN.
Me: 8000-7000-6900-5800-5400-5000
Jordan: 8000-7200-5800-2500-1100-600(time win for me)
MATCH #3: Alex vs. Jesse
Duel #1: He had a Behemoth in his deck, so I knew I couldn't let him get many
monsters out. I really couldn't mount up much of an offensive against him this
duel. I got a bad hand, that didn't have much strength in it. He beat me out
with IK, and a few rescue cats. LOSS.
Me: 8000-7600-6100-6000-2800-2700-0
Jesse: 8000-7900-7100-6100
Duel #2: This one was really bad. He had IK out from turn 1. I got one of my
Phoenix traps, but he mounted up quickly and got his Behemoth out. I used My
trap on it, but he was still able to beat threw my defenses fast. Golem Sentry
was no use. I didn't even hurt him this time. LOSS.
Me: 8000-6100-4200-800-300-0
Jesse: 8000
MATCH #4: Alex vs. James (BATTLE FOR 3rd AND 4th)
Duel #1: This one went especially good for me. He started out placing a monster
in defense mode. I killed it with one of my 1500 ATK's. Next turn, same thing,
except I use Rescue cat and get out 2 Chu-Ske's and do 2400 damage to him after
I kill the monster. I then get Chiron out next tunr and use my Phoenix trap to
blow back his monster, and attack with chiron. Then I get a 3800 hit with chiron
and some other monsters after that, but basically, I win. WIN.
Me: 8000
James: 8000-7900-5500-3700-0
Duel #2: He's able to rebound quite well from that loss. I only get a hit in
with shadowslayer the entire duel. He gets in a few hits with 1500's and Space
Mambo. He dominates the entire duel with them. LOSS.
Me: 8000-6500-6400-3200-0
James: 8000-6600
Duel #3: This one was another long one. He's able to get some minor hits on me.
1200 and two 1000's. The 1000's were from Ushioni's effect. I hit him twice with
two 100 hits. then he calls Ushioni's effect wrong. Then I do this combo that
clears his field with 3 monsters. We don't do anything major the rest of the
duel (from joking around with each other and the judge) except ushioni's burn
effect, and a 1500 hit. Then I clear his field and hit with two monsters for
game. WIN.
Me: 8000-6800-5800-4800
James: 8000-7900-7800-6800-6500-4700-3700-3400-1900-0
I got 3rd. I though, from the looks of my pulls and everyone elses, that I'd get
dead last. People had Granmargs, SS LV5's, Behemoths, UI LV5's, multiple Insect
Knight's and so one, yet I still got 3rd. Those Phoenix trap cards are life
savers. If you see them in draft, GET THEM. AS MANY AS YOU CAN. Since the card
pool wasn't that great, there really wasn't, obviously, much variation in the
decks, other than the rare cards really. 1500 ATK's were the norm, with the IK
ruling the ATKing scene. Rescue Cat was used very often. Good Goblin
Housekeeping was played almost every duel from everyone. That Big powerup for
beasts, March of a Hundred beasts (or whatever it was called), is highly
overrated for a deck made with only cards for this set, probably in real deck
too. I had 3, yet they were almost always a burden. I only drew Poison Fang once
the entire tourney, and the duel ended a turn later, without me even using it,
but I could see it being a great card.
I got 3rd and went out to get my 3 packs. I bought a Bottomless Trap Hole for 2
bucks and then bought two FET packs for $10. I opened the packs and got:
Deck Devastation Virus (Ultimate Rare)
Lightning Vortex (Super Rare)
Blast Magician (Super Rare)
Big-Tusked Mammoth (Rare)
Meteor of Destruction (Rare)
I then traded with a guy there, I traded $13 and Blast Magician for his
Gearfried The Swordmaster (I'm making a Gearfiend control deck). I tried getting
another one from my friend there, but that guy knew the real value of the card,
so he didn't trade. Overall, this was a great night, and I hope to do this again
when "The Lost Millennium' comes out.
Pro's:
+ Got 3rd in the tourney that I was dreading to go into thinking I had the worst
deck.
+ Getting all of those great cards later on.
+ Devon getting Granmarg and The Feather of the Phoenix Magic card... and a hair
cut ^_^
Con's:
- Not getting anything over a normal rare in the initial 6 packs.
- Not getting that other Gearfried TSM.
