Card Game Tips from fans

Call it surprise - Forest Thomer
Hello everybody, My name is Forest Thomer, but can be
contacted at AIM Tebezu or Tebezu@gmail.com
This is my first article on the archives and I believe I
need to explain myself. I think pojo needs more of an input
from its readers, after all, we all play this game, put
excessive amounts of time, money, etc. into it and I think a
diff. opinion is at hand concerning cards. Just this last
weekend I played against an Insect lv. deck, using weird
cards, like kaiser coliseum, ordeal of the traveler,
ULTIMATE INSECT, etc. and at first it caught me off guard.
The fact the deck ran smoothly and only loss due to a lucky
draw on my part in game 3, should explain to you all that
the deck is quite playable. (For those of you who care, this
is done out of trying to justify some credentials, I am a
2006 national qualifier. This means nothing in the long run
of things but at least I hope you all realize I'm not just
talking theory, I test it, use it, and smile when people are
confused.) Most people whom play this TCG would talk about
how unplayable an insect deck is at this time, how useless
winged kuriboh lv. 10 is, the fact that Blue-Eyes White
Dragon (the games best monster :P) is dead. My reasoning, in
the hands of a skilled player, willing to take risks, they
might just find out how "useless", some cards are. Overall I
hope I can encourage versatility, randomness, surprise, etc.
into this game built upon staples.
I hate staples yet am doomed to an oxy-moronic state based
single-handily on the fact that by not running snatch steal,
I am putting myself at a serious loss. Anyway I hope to gain
one thing from this, input from others. So give me your
advise, help me learn, even correct my mistakes as you see
fit.
I will take your deck lists and try my best to break them
down, but in response I hope you take my deck lists and
improve them. Anybody who would like to make a comment on
how to improve my strategy is free to do so, just make sure
you back up your logic. Upon making a fix, as you see fit,
show
me what needs to drop and what needs to be replaced.
Anyway, the most important thing this game has is fun,
seriously the pro's don't really make anything. Well nothing
is more fun then winning a game with winged Kuriboh Lv. 10.
The look on your opponents face after summoning it and using
its effect is worth the time and stress of actually building
the deck. This is one of my decks, I have only used it in 2
local tournaments, and believe me I won. What won me the
game, was my ability to surpirse my opp. They had no idea as
to what I was playing. At first I'd appear aggro, then BAM
stall with burn. The deck has only been used in 2 tourny's
and with those I had hand and field advantage most of the
time.
The side deck was dedicated to nothing more than ftk like
last turn and cyber dragon otk. But the deck still lacks
alot of testing, so give me some feedback. With no further
ado here it is..................
Wing Kuriboh Lv. 10 deck
total (42)
Monster(21)
3x Winged Kuriboh

3x Sakuretsu Armor
2xGravity Bind
Magic CylinderCall of the Haunted
The first draft used 41 cards and dekoichi (however it is
spelled), but due to the fact I do not like it or tsuky in
the current format I dropped it.
The extra card never really hurt the deck any. Basically the
deck plays like any offensive burn deck. A card that I
thought about using was of course wave motion cannon, but
the deck despite the success I had with it, is still prone
to bad draws. A winged Kuriboh Lv. 10 in the opening move,
ugg, it just makes me want to vomit. The diff. Dimension
Capsules are used to search for Transcended Wings, or any
other bad top deck (the card is versatile so go for what you
think you need), The most monsters I've KILLED with lv. 10
is 4, but it was due to my opp. flipping a cyber jar and
forcing field overextending. Most of the time it kills 2
monsters, but if ya win resources mean nothing RIGHT. The
reason the pojo staff gave LV. 10, as most other people, a
poor rating is due to the fact it requires 4 cards to pull
off. The problem I see with this is simply that we have been
spoiled by Mirror Force, Dark Hole, etc. We like 1 for 5's,
but winged Kuriboh is a well balanced card. It has an
awesome effect, but in order to pull it off, it is going to
cost you something. This does not make the card bad, it just
shows some insight into the way the game should be played.
If ya want something cool, you should work for it!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, let me see those responses and fixes. Also don't be
afraid to send me anything crazy. In a couple of weeks i
will be working on a lv. 3 monster rush deck. It will need
some work too, so get ready to give me some suggestions. I
plan on posting some of the more interesting responses and
Hope to get responses. Remember, only through practice and
determination do we get better in anything. THIS APPLIES
EVERYWHERE! and always remember, never fall into "normality"
for by doing so removes the element of surprise.
