Yay! It's my
turn this week! Today, we're looking at a
card that most people overlook, Masked
you inflict damage to your opponent's Life Points
with this card, draw 1 card from your Deck.
I'm surprised this
card hasn't popped up more. It's mad tech,
as it has plenty of opportunities to power up
(it's Dark main-type and Spellcaster sub-type),
gets around Trap Hole (900 attack), and can
destroy almost any popular monster in combination
with Shield & Sword. Of course, the main
reason you're using this guy is for his effect.
With the incredible number of monster removal
cards (Trap Hole, Fissure, TttD, Raigeki, Dark
Hole, Barrel Dragon, MEB, Mirror Force), it's easy
to get a clear field to pop this guy in.
Works well in combination with Robbin' Goblin,
because you get to draw a card and they lose a
card! Card advantage is BIG in this game,
considering the limited number of drawing cards,
and I won't even mention the new-found popularity
of Robbin' Goblin, not to mention that you need
cards in your hand to use Magic Jammer and TttD.
If you can get multiple of these guys on the field
and keep your opponent's field clear, you will
have one hell of a speed advantage.
The only disadvantage
is the stats. 900 attack is crap, and 1400
defense isn't THAT bad. However, Shield
& Sword once again takes out La Jinn, 7
Colored Fish, Dark Elf, Skull, etc.
Masked Sorcerer + any
monster removal = Clear field.
Masked Sorcerer + Shield
& Sword = Dead F/S monster.
Masked Sorcerer + Swords
of Revealing Light = Can't be attacked.
900/1400 won't win many battles. This,
however, isn't that bad, because it can be pulled
by both Sangan and Witch
of the Black Forest.
It sucks to draw the cards, just to lose them
This card is good tech
for almost any deck out there. You have to
play him strategically to be able to abuse his
effect. You should sideboard at least one if
you have an open spot.
I give Masked Sorcerer
a 3.3. You have to use it
strategically, but if you can pull it off, the
rest is gravy. I may give this guy a try at
my first sanctioned tourney on Saturday (I.M.
Chuckles in Fremont, Ohio).
