Dark Coffin/Cursed Coffin:
PGD-047-Short Print
Trap Card: Normal
Effect: When this face-down card is destroyed and sent
to the Graveyard, your opponent must select and
execute 1 of the following effects:
* Discard 1 card in his/her hand.
* Select 1 monster on his/her side of the field and
destroy it.
This card works well in almost any situation, assuming
that the opponent can't choose the discard effect if
they have no hand and that they can't choose the
monster removal effect if they have no monster on the
field, most likely they will rule it that that if they
have no monster they have to discard and visa-versa.
Having this card set can work as a bluff card either
making your opponent not wanting to attack or making
them use MST, HFD, Heavy Storm, Dust Tornado and such
which will only cause it to activate. You can even set
if off yourself, but the only good way to do that is
with Heavy Storm so you can take out any M/T they have
out too. Even if you don't play Hand Disruption this
card can come in handy, removing any card from their
hand or monster from their field has never been so
easy. I say this because it doesn't require any LP
cost, it doesn't require a monster to be face-up or
face-down, and it doesn't require any additional cards
except for you or the opponent to destroy it.
The only 2 cards I can think of beside basic Trap
negation like Jinzo, Ryu Senshi, Seven Tools or even
Solemn Judgment that can possibly render this card
useless are Banisher Of The Light and Bait Doll, since
Banisher will cause it to be removed instead of being
sent to the Graveyard and Bait Doll will cause it to
be flipped before being destroyed so Dark Coffin
wouldn’t activate. I'm still not sure that if they
choose the Monster removal effect and choose a Tyrant
Dragon or Fiend Skull Dragon on their side of the
field, would it be considered targeted and negated?
Also since they get to choose which effect, and choose
which card to discard, they can simply discard a
Sinister Serpent, Marie The Fallen One, Electric Snake
or a Minar, not to mention that in future releases
there are monster that get immediately
summoned when discarded (Despair From The Darkness and
Fear From The Darkness to name some), so this card
will eventually loose most of its playability.
Personally I love this card at the moment, it's
perfect as a bluff card and you get an awesome effect
when it's destroyed. If I ran a 2-3 of these I would
put my Heavy Storm back into my deck. With it being a
short-print though, it may be harder to find than the
regular rare cards in the PGD set.

ArtWork: 3.5 - Another good Egyptian type card, but
the dark guy/creature inside looks more funny/silly
than scary/evil, yeah I use/write allot/many of "/"s. |

Thursday 08/21/03: Dark Coffin
PGD-047
Normal Trap
When this face-down card is destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard, your opponent must select and execute 1 of
the following effects:
* Discard 1 card in his/her hand
* Select 1 monster on his/her side of the field and
destroy it
Here's something different. This is kind of a neat
card and definitely annoying.
If you're tired of your opponent wiping out everything
in your m/t zone with their deck full of magic and
trap removal, put 3 of these in your deck and make
them think twice. You don't really get any card
advantage since it's usually 1 for 1. In fact, you
lose card advantage if their field is clear (and
they're topdecking) or if they have Sinister Serpent.
I'm not sure if effect number 1 is a random discard so
we'll have to wait for the ruling. I would also guess
that if your opponent has no cards their hand, that
they'll have to destroy a monster on their field and
vice versa.
It's not clear if Jinzo negates this as this card must
be facedown when it goes to the graveyard. Jinzo only
negates trap activations on the field and this doesn't
go face-up (and activate) until it hits the graveyard
so we'll have to wait for the ruling on this as well.
Other cards like Banisher of the Light, Nobleman of
Extermination and Bait Doll break this card.
This is a neat card but the benefit is too random.
This card would be so much better if you got to pick
the effect instead of your opponent. I'd have a hard
time making room in my deck (or even sidedeck) for
this.
