#7--Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness

Is it just me or have three of this weeks card been reviewed in the last three months or less???

Gorz is exactly what his name says he is...the Emissary, and of Darkness, for one player or the other...he single handedly is responsible for many a victory across the Yugioh scene...and he is one hell of a terror.

His attack of 2700 (and 2500) defense make him able to defeat several powerful and popular monsters, yet still fall to certain ones, Judgment Dragon and Dark Armed Dragon come to mind immediately...

Gorz is very splashable, yet a card that deserves his own build, but will still win games just by being thrown into your random Deck...think about that for a moment and feel the shutter down your spine...

Ratings:

Traditional: 4/5

Advanced: 5/5

Art: 5/5 This guy definitely looks like a Ninja or a Warrior or something...hell, he could be a lost member of the Six Samurai family.
General Zorpa Gorz, Emissary of Darkness

Weighing in at number 7 is everybody's favorite fiend, Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness. WE have just done a review of Gorz as he was released wuite recently. I will however, go over the basics of his play as well as his interaction with a number of cards that will see widespread play over the next series of months.

Gorz can be Special Summoned whenever you take damage. If it is effect damage, you Special Summon Gorz and you burn your opponent for the same amount. Not exactly great, as you have to have a clear field, something you never want to do against a burn deck. As it stands, there are not any competetive burn decks, but the effects of cards like Ceasefire can be splashed into many decks, so you actually might have the opportunity to use it.

Gorz can also be Special Summoned when you take Battle Damage. You Special Summon Gorz, and then you Special Summon a token that has the same ATK and DEF as the damage that you took. This is the better of Gorz' two effects and easily the more common. Once again, you have to have no cards on your side of the field, but here psychology is the play. Your opponent will have to gauge whether or not you have Gorz if they attack an open field, because a Summoned Gorz can really put a damper on teh battle phase.

Now, you can easily get into rulings trouble with Gorz, as there is not much that can negate him. Thunderking Rai-Oh and Royal Oppression is where nost of hte trouble lies. Their effects cannot be activated at the time that Gorz is Summoned, so they cannot negate his summon. However, counter traps like Gladiator Beast War Chariot, Divine Wrath and Solemn Judgment can.

7: Gorz, Emissary Of Darkness

Today’s card is Gorz, Emissary Of Darkness. When I last reviewed this card, I said how overhyped it is. Obviously it is amazing, but people were talking about it like it is as powerful as Dark Armed or Crush Card Virus. This card basically says in invisible ink: “I stop Otk’s”. That is reason enough to use it. You will never see its burn effect go off, since burn is practically dead. If it does come back, this is a sick counter to it.

ATK/2700 DEF/2500
[Fiend/Effect]

When you take damage from a card your opponent controls while you control no
cards, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Then activate the
appropriate effect, based on the type of damage:
* Battle Damage: Special Summon 1 "Emissary of Darkness Token"
(Fairy-Type/LIGHT/Level 7/ATK ?/DEF ?). It's ATK and DEF are each equal to
the amount of battle damage you took.
* Effect Damage: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the amount of
damage you took.

Secret Rare

One of the most wanted cards everyone wanted for the longest time and its out for everyone to have. Gorz works when someone has a completely open field and they take battle damage or effect damage. Nine times out of ten it will be battle damage. Gorz will be summoned to the field and produce a token equal to the battle damage you took, both ATK and DEF or give the same amount of effect damage back to the opposing player.

It has 2700 ATK, which can get over a lot of things, but there still other monster stronger than it. Now the opponent has to choose which one of theit monsters attacks first instead of just pushing them both in front of you. It is better to summon Gorz after the biggest monster has attack because the token can just double knock out with the big monster and Gorz attacks the small monster, The token also helps in many ways by being tributable for either for monarchs or Enemy Controller. This card really helps when playing against Lightsworn and Dark Armed Dragon Decks.

#7 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness

A lot of people are probably shaking their heads, thinking he’s a Top-3 at best, but Gorz hasn’t really proven himself like he should have. He’s a great card, and his effect is ground-breaking, but he hasn’t proven himself in the current metagame, and until he does, #7 is where he stays.
