Another new set, another new Elemental Lord.  We got Grandsoil--the Earth Lord, who grants you a Special Summon from the opponent's Graveyard.  We have Moulinglacia--the Water Lord, who discards two cards from your opponent's Hand, and now we have Pyrorex--the Fire Lord.  Like his brethern, Pyrorex is a Level 8 Monster, with 2800 attack and 2200 defense, who can only be Special Summoned by having five certain Monsters in your Graveyard...in this instance, Fire.  He also has the nasty effect of losing a Battle Phase when he leaves the Field, as is par for the course with these Monsters.

I really like Pyrorex, I place him as the best of the three thus far, with the Earth being second, and the Water being third, to this point.  When Special Summoned, Pyrorex lets you target and destroy one Monster your opponent controls.  If successful, both players take Damage equal to half the attack of the destroyed Monster.  That may not sound like much (I mean I would hope to do at least 1000 Damage, so that's obviously a Monster with at least 2000 attack) but combo that with Barrel Behind the Door (something you might be playing in a dedicated Fire/Burn Deck anyway) and your opponent will take your Damage too!

I really enjoy that these Elemental Lords are Level 8, and a Special Summon.  It can really help bringing out a ridiculously high Level Synchro or a Rank 8 XYZ Monster.  If you're playing Fire, I'd give this guy a shot.

Pyrorex the Elemental Lord is the latest Elemental Lord to be released. There are not many fire based decks in the game, but we do have Dinosaurs like Jurrac and Evolsaurs, and Flamvell, Laval, Volcanic, and Horus decks. We also have two new deck types in  Fire Fist and Hazy Flame. Out of all of those decks, probably Evolsaurs, Flamvell, and Brotherhood are the most playable. Out of those decks, a Flamvell/Laval deck would be the best deck for Pyrorex because of how easy it is to control the graveyard.

Flamvell with Laval monsters have a nice synergy with loading the graveyard and using Rekindling to load the field and thus control the graveyard. By sending Laval Volcano Handmaiden to the graveyard, ether by battle or by something like Ryko, Laval Miller, or Foolish Burial, and then using its effect to send another Handmaiden to the grave and another and finally a Laval monster if you need it to get to exactly 5 Fire monsters in the grave for Pyrorex.

You could also build a pretty nice deck around a burn theme with Pyrorex the Elemental Lord. There is a nice trick with Laval Golem to get rid of two of your opponent’s monsters and then burn them for 3000 points. Yes, you take damage as well but your way is clear to attack for another 2800 points of damage. Even if you do not have Pyrorex, Laval Golem has great synergy with cards like Magic Cylinder, effectively doing a total of 4000 life points. Fire decks are all about burn, so using Pyrorex is a no brainer. Once Onslaught of the Fire Kings is released on the 8th, we will have Fire Kings like Fire King High Avatar Garunix for Pyrorex to work with.

If you are playing a deck that uses one primary attribute then running an Elemental Lord is a good idea. With 2800 in attack and the ability to destroy your opponent’s monsters, you can’t go wrong with Pyrorex the Elemental Lord. Yes, it is a dead draw if you do not have exactly five monsters in the grave, but a deck that can manipulate the graveyard will rectify that.

This is my first good look that I've had at out number 8 card, Pyrorex The Elemental Lord, and the only thing that threw me off was the fact that it's a Dinosaur type. At this point, if you've seen one Elemental Lord, you've seen them all as far as special summoning them go. In this case, it's 5 FIRE type in the grave that's needed. If you special summon it this way (And its the only way you can at all) you gat to target one monster your opponent controls and destroy it. If you do, you both take damage equal to half its original ATK. And if it leaves the field in any way, you skip your next battle phase. Fire Fists, Lavals and Jurracs are pretty much the only places for Pyrorex, as they are all FIRE based. Anywhere else would be uncivilized, and just plain dumb. I do like his ability to come in and wreck a monster and burn you and your opponent for half of the ATK of the monster, as that might end up winning the game, or open up the door down that path, with its 2800 ATK. Also 2200 DEF is pretty solid too. Im looking forward to the rest of the Elemental Lords and hoping they are as good as the ones we already have.

Welcome today to another edition of Pojo’s Top Ten countdown of Cosmic Blazar awesome cards! Today we have one of my absolute favorite cards from the set, Pyro Rex!

Pyrorex the Elemental Lord
Level 8, FIRE, Dinosaur

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having exactly 5 FIRE monsters in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy it, and if you do, both players take damage equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster. You can only use this effect of "Pyrorex the Elemental Lord" once per turn. If this card leaves the field, skip the Battle Phase of your next turn.
2800/2200

I personally love the Elemental Lords. The idea of elemental bosses really excites me for future card design! Furthermore, it’s a freaking Dinosaur; on fire!

Putting aside my personal thoughts, let’s take a look at PyroRex and what it does. First, it requires you to have exactly 5 Fire monsters in grave. This isn’t too hard to do with all these new fire themes of Hazy Flame and Fire Avatar; which have their own grave control options. While it isn’t as great as the options that Earth and Water have to summon their Lords; it’s still plausible.

Then we have a very strong ability to destroy any monster your opponent controls, and both players take damage equal to half its attack. Sound familiar? It should as it is very similar to Ring of Destruction. However, some things set it back some.

For one, to really get the best out of it you need your opponent to control a decently strong monster to get some good burn out. Thus, early game drops won’t be as effective as Grandsoil or Moulinglacia. Late game though, it’s pretty decent; being able to take out big threats.

While PyroRex is good… it simply can’t stand up to the shoulders of his two brothers; which is why I have to give him a lower rating. He does have his use in some certain decks though!

Advanced: 3.75

It’s a really good card, however it’s held back by limits of the decks that can use it and by how it’s effect can’t really stand up to the effects of Soil and Glacia.

What fire decks would you run in Traditional?

Freaking love dinosaurs on fire :P. Plus, it looks like Godzilla, some extra brownie points there!

Alright, today we have #8 on the Cosmo Blazer Top 10 List.  Honestly I didn’t think it deserved to be on this last at first.  Most people have overlooked this card but it really is pretty good.

Pyrorex the Elemental Lord

Attribute: Fire
Type:
Dinosaur/Effect
Level 8

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having exactly 5 FIRE monsters in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy it, and if you do, both players take damage equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster. You can only use this effect of "Pyrorex the Elemental Lord" once per turn. If this card leaves the field, skip the Battle Phase of your next turn.

ATK/2800                   DEF/2200

Now this card hasn’t been too popular recently mostly because it doesn’t seem as good as the other Elemental Lords.  There also aren’t many good fire decks right now that can fill up the graveyard quickly.  The real reason why this card is on this list is because it will probably be very useful in the future with fire kings and lavals.

Lavals are able to use one Molten Conduction Field Spell card to ditch five monsters to the grave combined with the Laval Volcano Handmaiden’s effects.  That makes this card pretty consistent.   Lavals can also manipulate their grave with Laval Lakeside Lady.  Lavals can OTK without Pyrorex but it will just make the deck even more explosive than before.  It also helps you get through problem monsters with Pyrorex’s effect.

Fire kings might be able to use Pyrorex as well but it’s hard to tell how good it would be in that deck.  I can see it being decent in Fire Kings but I’m not quite sure.

Overall this card is pretty good with its ring of destruction-like effect and its nice stats.  Will it be as relevant to the game as Moulinglacia or Grandsoil?  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Advanced: 2.5/5 right now

-Later I expect this card to be better but right now I just have to give it an lower rating. It just is to slow in the current meta.

Traditional: 1/5

-It’s slow and it isn’t light or dark.  It just doesn’t work well in this format.

Art: 4/5

-I like the art of this card.  It is both a dino and the flames on it look cool.

Pyrorex the Elemental Lord

Fire/Dinosaur/Effect/LV 8/2800/2200

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having exactly 5 FIRE monsters in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy it, and if you do, both players take damage equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster. You can only use this effect of "Pyrorex the Elemental Lord" once per turn. If this card leaves the field, skip the Battle Phase of your next turn.

Number 8 on the POJO top 10 from Cosmo Blazer is the Fire-attribute’s Elemental Lord; Pyrorex. To be honest I never saw the point of Elemental Lords. Yes special summoning a monster with 2800 ATK is good but with a strict summoning condition and forfeiting your next Battle Phase when this card leaves the field for any reason it makes you monster why bother. Anyway Pyrorex’s own effect is  basically a weaker version of Ring of Destruction with the only bonus of the monster is that the monster doesn’t have to be face up.

Overall Elemental Lords have their fans but I’m not one of them, there’s too much effort to get out a one shot effect monster who can do more damage to you that your opponent and Pyrorex doesn’t change my opinion.

Today we are looking at #8 of our Cosmo Blazer top 10 list: “Pyrorex the Elemental Lord”

“Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. If this card leaves the field, skip the Battle Phase of your next turn.”

Let me start by saying I think this is a good car. It is watered down (no pun intended) “Ring of Destruction” on legs. while I agree with most people I know that he isn’t quite up to par with his aquatic brother “Moulinglacia”, he still has a very solid effect that can end games. Like all the elemental lords he has the standard stats of A2800/D2200, the stipulation that you must have exactly 5 of x monster in your graveyard (Fire in this case), and when he leaves the field you lose the battle phase of your next turn. (Your NEXT turn, please remember that.)

He fits nicely in the new Fire Fist deck. They can load up the graveyard almost as fast as Mermail and will most likely benefit from his game ending burn damage. Laval’s also love this guy as they can spam fire monsters to the grave even faster, but have yet to achieve the success I foresee Fire Fists achieving (until the next hidden arsenal).
Overall He has solid stats and a decent (but not game breaking) effect. I see a lot of potential in this guy.
