Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh! Card of the Day
Daily Since 2002!

El Shaddoll Grysta
- #NECH-EN048

1 "Shaddoll" monster + 1 FIRE monster Must first be Fusion Summoned. During either player's turn, when your opponent would Special Summon a monster(s) while you have a "Shaddoll" card in your hand: You can negate the Summon, and if you do, destroy that monster, then send 1 "Shaddoll" card from your hand to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "El Shaddoll Grysta" once per turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Shaddoll" Spell/Trap Card in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.

The strength of this card is dependent on how relevant FIRE monsters are.  Right now, tier 1 or 2 decks aren't using FIRE monsters (so, no Super Poly) and I can't think of any FIRE monsters I'd like to use in Shaddolls either.  FIRE monsters have generally been designed as archetypes like Fire Fists and Fire Kings, so there is a less emphasis on splashability.

While Grysta's destruction of Special Summoned monsters is more reliable as an effect, Shekhinaga is more reliable as a card overall since it's an EARTH and has much better stats.  As you can see in tournament results, top players aren't using Grysta despite using the other 3 El Shaddolls.  When FIRE monsters make a comeback, this card will be good again.  It has everything it needs to be a quality card, otherwise.  But till then, I can't say it's meta-relevant.  But it's not bad at all, either (you can still Shaddoll Core into it).  But it's just more situational to bring out than the other Fusion monsters.

El Shaddoll Grysta

The fire shaddoll fusion for New Challengers. This card only really exist for Super Polymerization in my opinion. You can negate Special Summoned monster summons which is nice. Summoning this card though really makes it the hard part. It also "floats" for an additional spell card.

El Shaddoll Grysta

El Shaddoll Grysta CAN stop Pendulum Summons and this is of course where it’s greatest use will lie and is the sole reason to consider running this card.

It can also be used to form a decent lock with El Shaddoll Winda since even Negated Special Summons count towards the Special Summon limit that Winda allows.

The biggest problem is however that there are precious few viable Fire monsters that the Shaddoll Deck can use, although useful options could include Metaion, the Timelord or Volcanic Shell.

Grysta can also help Shaddoll’s to get rid of a problematic Lava Golem when playing against a Deck such as Chain Burn.

What is a more viable option though will be to use Shaddoll Core, and then once it is released, Nepheshaddoll Fusion. These options can and will be useful to Summon any of the Shaddoll Fusion Elements, not just El Shaddoll Grysta.

And Super Polymerization can be used can be used against something like Lonefire Blossom or Wind-Up Zenmaines to disrupt an opponent.

Traditional: 2.75. There are simply too many ways to push through effects such as this here, and would not even slow down an opponent from Special Summons even in the slightest.

Note: This is the FINAL review in which Traditional Format scores will be required, however I will from time to time provide a Traditional rating for any cards that I feel will benefit by being compared next to the best of the best cards available.

I believe that scoring some cards here can help to put into perspective how good some very good cards can or will actually be. That score I feel can also be used to put into perspective the Advanced Format score in some situations I feel.

Advanced: 3.5. This cards best use is going to come about by using it alongside Winda or if you use it against a Pendulum Deck such as Qliphort’s.

Just the 1 copy of this should be more than sufficient in the Extra Deck but I feel that 1 should be there.

Hello Pojo Fans,

The final card for the week is another “Shaddoll” Fusion monster: El Shaddoll Grysta. The FIRE attribute “Shaddoll” Fusion monster that further broadens the Shaddoll archetype reach.

Weaker ATK and DEF for a level 7 Fusion monster, Grysta needs a FIRE monster and a “Shaddoll” monster to be Special Summoned. Much like Shekhinaga before it, Grysta can activate its effect once per turn, during either players turn. Instead of negating a Special Summoned monsters effect, this monster can destroy the Special Summoned monster by discarding a “Shaddoll” card from your hand to the graveyard. Along with field presence maintained and taking away a summon from your opponent, if a “Shaddoll” monster is discarded you will maintain hand advantage as it will break even and replenish your resource. You will get your spell/trap back if Grysta goes to the graveyard in any way.

The weaker stats are balanced by the ability of stopping a Special Summon. Again, the weakness in this effect is that it is once per turn. If your opponent has more than one monster that can destroy Grysta then you will only be able to stop one and wait for your “Shaddoll” spell/trap upon Grysta's destruction. While this is a downside, the ability to stop a Special Summon during any turn can slow your opponents plans and force them to wait for more than one way to deal with Grysta.

Field presence is important, maintaining hand is important, this card can do both. Has plenty of support and ways to Fusion Summon it, it is a good card.
