Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Maltos’s Friday deck - Spell caster’s revisited

June 06, 2006

Last time in Dark Maltos’s Dueling Dome……

‘Overall, I think the deck is now vastly improved . Dead draws have either been replaced , or up graded, more monster removal has been introduced, and all in all, I think the deck has been made a lot more solid.

Skilled Dark Magician (x2)
Peten the Dark Clown (x3)
Grave keepers Spy (x2)
Injection Fairy lily
Tsukuyomi

Boy was I wrong……

Greetings one and ‘all, I’m back , taking a break from my 7 part series on increasing your dueling techniques to bring back the classic Friday deck. I’m really happy about this one in particular because I managed to squeeze in a ‘previously on …’ moment, relating it back to something that wasn’t previous at all, well I suppose it technically was, but its by no means the last thing you saw from me. I’m rambling again huh? Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I’ve finally got round to fixing the Dark Magician deck I’ve been trying to fix for months. I’ve even managed to push this one even further (not exactly hard to believe looking at this, what the hell was I thinking?) I’ve got a lot to make up for on this one.

Looking at the monster line up, there is one thing predominately missing from the list - Dark Magician of Chaos. This wasn’t intentional, more like me screwing up on the final list. He’s gotta be there, he’s perfect, arguably the best 2 tribute out their. .

Next, I’m saying good bye to everything non - Spell caster. That means no DDWL, Spirit Reaper, Sangan, Morphing Jar, Cyber Jar or Exiled force. With format changes, one of them is banned, but I wanna go totally Spell caster on this one. That way, Magical Dimension, the key card in the deck , has no issues. I’m gonna ditch the spies as well, at least from the main deck.

To replace this assortment of powerful cards a few new things need be added.

Apprentice Magician ;

Yes, I guess he’s back in. He’s really great in this format, making for a solid defense as well as a searcher for 2 Magician of Faith’s, as well as a few interesting others.

Chaos Sorcerer:

Ahhh !! You CC SOB !! I hear you cry. Well lets just think about it guys. Was Chaos Sorcerer CC last format? No. Was Chaos Sorcerer Spell caster last format ? Yes. If you want to have the best deck towards a theme, you have to use the best cards for that theme. It’s not like I’m sticking a return in as well.

Unhappy Maiden :

Light, level 2 and spell caster. Almost perfect if you ask me. I included her in my other Spell caster deck for the same purpose, and he’s not that bad alone. Battle phase ending can be quite sort after, a good counter to Cyber Dragons I think.

Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer

Ahhh, the old meta - killing dude himself. Kycoo reinforces the attacking factor, as well as being a great counter to Return decks ( I’m guessing)

Next the spell line up.

Well Dark Hole is immediately changed to Graceful Charity because of the format change. I’m also adding in a second Nobleman of Crossout in place of Giant Trunade, as typically, the deck I find to be more aggressively based. Finally, creature swap shall be replaced for my favourite card, Magical Dimension.

With every monster card being a spell caster, any situational problems have been eliminated. Now it’s a pure speed and strength card hopefully.

Trap wise, im deciding on the Royal Decree/ Magicians circle dilemma by deciding against both in favour of the ever - powerful Mirror Force. And I think that’s it.

Mirror Force

Hmm, now for a side deck :

Grave keepers Spy (x2)
Unhappy Girl
Time Wizard
Spirit Reaper
Sangan
DD Warrior Lady
Tree born frog
Magician’s Circle (x3)
Sakurtsu Armour
Magic Cylinder
Smashing Ground
Brain Control

Now that’s a bit mad. Basically, I’ve put in the good stuff I’d taken out and added a few relatively decent cards, for you to side you strategy up a bit. Un happy Girl’s actually quite interesting if you don’t mind taking some lp damage. Although this side contains some non spell casters, I would avoid siding them in unless necessary. The spell casters should be able to compensate, but I guess that’s up to you.

Overall, the spell caster deck is not one without it’s strengths. If you’re after high attack, combo ability and speedy defense, they’re the ones for you, but in my experience there are a few downsides definitely worth mentioning.

Bad hands are frequently a cause for concern. I’ve been stuck drawing into 3 Magical dimensions in a row. That’s bad luck I guess, but you have to expect them occasionally. Wehats important is the way you deal with them, I know with experience that I’ve got better at coping with bad hands because of this deck.

Most cards in the deck work in combination with the others, use that to your advantage, and don’t be afraid to push because the deck can pull through.

Well that’s it from me guys, have a great weekend , and I’ll see ya on Monday.

Have a good one guys
