Ugh ....Bugs....

March 13, 2006

Ugh….Bugs….

Insects, above all else disturb me the most. I’d rather be hunted by a chainsaw wielding maniac than thrown into a tub of any insect or the like. To put it simply, they are disgusting and vile. However, for some odd ball reason, I love spider man and spiders in general I think are really cool, although I’d never hold one. Anyway, recently bugs have been getting a lot of support and have quickly jumped from being one of the lowest deck types around to at the very least a Tier 2 deck type. Such a jump has been made possible thanks to one very particular set, - Shadow of Infinity, however bugs have received an extreme support card in IOC as well. Dare you read on? I'm going to do a quick run through of the best insect cards out there :

Doom Dozer :

The Envoy o the Insect Kingdom, DD is singularly the strongest Weapon in the insect arsenal. With the wide variety of insect out there, and especially in an insect deck, his effect is simply astounding. Such simple summoning costs for a superb monster which is great as it both gives insects a reason to be played, as well as not being over the top. As a nice add in ability, Doom Dozer also discards the top card from the opponents deck when it inflicts damage. Not bad, not great, but worthwhile if you hit a Smashing or a Snatch Steal. Overall, a staple card for the deck , an absolute Necessity.

Chainsaw insect ;

A card widely adored by many even outside of an insect deck. Its raw power with a minor drawback can put insects on the map, as well as making the opponent less frustrated at the loss by allowing them to draw one card. Gorgeous.

Gokipon ;

Insects own Sangan. A great card, and a must have, although the effect is slightly watered down from everyone’s must - have fiend. Still, its effect is great regardless.

Saber Beetle :

My favourite card in the entire insects arsenal. A Dark Triceratops exactly for the insect world. Trample is a very effective effect, especially at high levels of play, being a great counter of the often played weenie monsters such as Spirit Reaper, Magical Merchant and Magician of Faith. A great card to run.

Anteatereatingant :

Definitely a powerful card, but quite costly summoning requirements. Still at the loss of these S/T’s , you receive a powerful monster, with a more than decent effect. This is an example of how the loss of advantage can sometimes pay off.

Pinch Hopper ;

You all saw this coming didn’t you? This is singularly the best Insect support card ever released, allowing for an almost Sangan like trigger effect which allows for sheer abuse with cards like Saber Beetle and Chainsaw insect, among others. Staple.

Magical Merchant :

A hand little insect that not only dumps insects in the grave, also provides decent advantage. Worthwhile, and a card I’ve always been fond of since Magicians force.

Needle Worm :

Everyone knows that Needle Worm is effective and also quite devastating. Losing 5 cards in anyone’s deck can hurt the strategy severely. In excess of that is obscene.

Insect Knight :

A standard 1900 beat stick. What’s not to love?

Howling Insect ;

The Insect Specific Searcher. As with all searchers it’s a great wall, deck thinner and grave filler for Doom Dozer.

Overall, Insects have a lot going for them monster wise. They also have cards that are not bad, but that I haven’t mentioned such as Swarm of Scarabs and Swarm of Beetles, two very good cards that are just a little too hard to use for this type of deck. They also have some famous support which is simply terrible, yet still sought after, such as insect Queen and Insect Princess. Not forgetting Armed insect which is a good card but unfortunately requiring way too much support.

S/T wise they are lacking with the only ‘decent’ support being Insect imitation and multiplication of ants, both of which are pretty sub - par, so they wont be used.

So all in all very powerful monsters are available, that can easily be taken advantage of , and in fact there is so much insect support it cant all be fit into one deck ;

Tributes ;

Doom Dozer (x2)
Saber Beetle(x3)

Monsters

Pinch Hopper (x3)
Chainsaw Insect (x2)
Gokipon (x3)
Howling Insect (x2)
Magical Merchant
Needle Worm (x3)
Breaker the Magical Warrior

Spells

Nobleman of Crossout
Dark Hole
Scapegoat
Heavy Storm
Smashing Ground (x2)
Mystical Space Typhoon

Pre Mature Burial
Swords of Revealing Light
Book of Moon
Pot of Avarice
Lightning Vortex

Traps :

Call of the Haunted
Sakurtsu Armour (x2)
Torrential Tribute
Dust Tornado (x3)

So there you have it. A perfectly playable and effective Insect Deck. Since there is so many more insects available, as mentioned in this article , a wide variety of different decks can be made from this base.

Any reasons and Combos :

Between the 3 of them, Gokipon, Pinch hopper and howling insect have pretty much got you covered. You can use Howling to search for Goki, or Goki to search for Howling, and Pinch can be searched by any.

Pinch is beautiful, making short work of the opponent by most likely slamming them with a Saber Beetle.

The High level monsters rock and will eventually make short wok of any opponent.

And finally, Chainsaw insect can counter any threat given to him . A great Cyber dragon tech, and a Morbius Suicide. Nice

Well that’s it for me again guys. I’m pretty chuffed with this deck, it came out nice. As always, thoughts and feelings can go to Toddyhole@aol.com, and I’ll gladly reply.

We’re nearing the end of my quest for 10 deck fixes guys. Just 3 more left to go. The next will be dedicated to a card very close to my heart and a deck that has personified me immensely and made me the duelist I am today. Prepare yourself for DEMON

Have a good one guys…..
