Character Deck 3: Dr. Vellian Crowler
June 20, 2006

Okay, sorry for not getting in article in for a while. I’ve been out of town and really busy. Well I’m back for a Crowler deck, which happens to be the last character deck I‘ll be doing for a while. Crowler is a very odd duelist. NO one can tell if he’s a man or a woman (except, oddly, every one watching). He uses Ancient Gear Monsters, along with other machine cards. One of his most powerful cards is Ancient Gear Golem. This beast has 3000 attack points, and can trample (do damage through defense mode)! One of the best strategies with this card is to use some tokens or special spells and traps to summon him, instead of paying the two whole tributes. One way to do this is to use Ancient Gear Castle, which gains 2 counters every time you summon a Ancient Gear monster, which can let you sacrifice those two, plus gives those monsters 300 extra attack points. This monster belongs to that same Ancient Gear family. These monsters usually have pretty nice effects that activate during the battle phase. Ancient Gear Beast and Ancient Gear Soldier both negate Spells and Traps during the damage step. Ancient Gear Cannon is used well with Ultimate Offering, so you pay 500 points to summon it (as an extra summon, at least), then tribute it and do 500 damage, and no Traps during the battle phase!

Another swarming tactic is to use Ancient Gear. They may be weak, and this combo can be hard to pull off, but when one is in play, you can Special Summon one from your hand. Ancient Gear Factory is a bit hard to use, but it can allow to summon a free monster, after removing monsters. And the final Ancient Gear card is Ancient Gear Drill, which at first glance isn’t too great. But if you combo it with Ancient Gear Factory, it allows you to dump a monster into the Graveyard to use Ancient Gear Factory. Plus, you could revive the card later if it’s a Beast or Golem with Premature Burial or Call of the Haunted. Both of those are featured in this deck. The final three cards we will be looking at are Magnet Circle LV 2, Emes the Infinity and Damage Condenser. Damage Condenser can summon a monster when you take damage, like Gear Golem, and Magnet Circle LV 2 can be very useful. It allows you to summon a Level 2 machine monster from your hand. Use it on Ancient Gear and you can summon some more of them using the effect or League of Uniform Nomenclature. Emes the Infinity raises attack points as he goes along, which is a pretty useful effect.

Let’s see how this deck has turned out.

X3 Ancient Gear
X3 Ancient Gear Soldier

X2 Ancient Gear Golem
