Stats :
Mystic Box is a Normal Spell. It’d
probably be better off as a Quick-Play, just to
give it some diversity. Or, with a
significantly different effect that better
represents the manga/animé effect, as a Trap.
Effect(s) :
Mystic Box is something of a strange
effect: you get to destroy an opponent’s
Monster… but then they get one of yours. At
least you choose in both situations.
Uses and
Combinations :
This is most definitely a niche card: giving
your opponent a Monster can be useful, but not
for the majority of decks. Such decks usually
involve Ameba or Giant Kozaky,
with the goal of major burn damage. There are
also a few decks that might like it since they
want to give your opponent something that proves
quite useful. For example, I think it’s
perfectly sensible to give an opponent a
Sasuke Samurai #3 and then run something
small into it so you can draw up to seven
cards. Note, I am not saying to use it that
way, just that it could. And of course, in
general, you can always give something like a
spent Magician of Faith that you can
easily destroy in battle.
Ratings
(due to the nature of this card, these are
ratings according to decks that use it)
Traditional :
1/5 – Too complex a strategy for this format.
Advanced :
3.5/5 – I’ve seen a swap based burner, and
thanks to this card, it is very, very annoying:
if you have any good Monster, it tends to get
destroyed by this or Swapped.
Limited :
N/A – It would be a good card for Limited, just
because it is Limited, and poor Monster removal
is better than none.
Summary
As a card, it isn’t too bad since it is meant
for some very specific decks to use.
