Monday
Welcome to a bit shorter week than normal, as we
won't have reviews Thursday, Friday, or Monday,
since the Big Giant Head, better known as Lord Pojo,
is going on vacation. Anyway, we open the week with
Chain Strike.
Before becoming restricted a little over a month
ago, Chain Strike became one of those cards that
someone said "hey, I bet I could use a couple of
those, or even three in my deck and really
accumulate some damage..." Low and behold, they were
right!
Chain Strike could be used against a Heavy Storm,
Mobius, Giant Trunade, and the like, and do a lot of
damage. If you had three down, that's 3600 damage
your opponent could take, as the damage did
accumulate. However, now, you can use but one.
It's still vulnerable to all the cards listed above,
and can only be activated during Chain 2 or higher.
So, it can't do just 400 damage, you are guaranteed
800 damage or higher each turn.
Chains can become crazy...it is a Quickplay Magic
card, so you probably could get as high as Chain 3
or 4 which is 1200 or 1600 and that's more than most
cards are going to give you by themselves. If you
have room, go ahead and try the one you're allowed
to use.
Ratings:
Traditional: 2/5 Not as much potential, but it could
still work.
Advanced: 3.5/5 Average Ratings...staple in a burn
or custom deck,
average in others, all but useless in others...

Chain Strike
5/5 in chain strike burn. But in my opinion the
archetype is dead and Trooper Burn is the way to go.
Outside of a burn deck this card has no purpose. |

Chain Strike
I’m personally glad this card was restricted to 1.
That Burn deck was outta hand and you basically
played solitaire with yourself against your opponent
and won the game.
The group of players who came up with the deck
should be congratulated. It was a great deck. I’m
just glad it was hosed somewhat. ^_^
Last Word:
Not much else to say on this one.
You already know how good Chain Strike is. You may
be glad it’s gone too. ^_^

Amazing how fast these weeks go by…..here we go
again!
Chain Strike
Quickplay Spell
Activate only as Chain Link 2 or higher; inflict 400
damage to your opponent times the Chain Link number
of this card. You cannot activate this card if
multiple and/effects with the same name are in that
Chain.
This can go anywhere from mediocre to great. At
least, it will do 800. At most, if you add in
multi-trigger monster effects by you and your
opponent, you could possibly do enough damage to
kill the opponent at 8000 life with this card’s burn
damage alone, but that won’t happen too often. And
since this card got restricted, that last line
doesn’t really matter.
The idea behind this card is to make a speed burn
deck. You set your entire hand. Next turn, chain
everything, ending with a chain strike, doing
massive damage. Hopefully you had some reckless
greed and accumulated fortune in order to get more
cards to push for more damage. The problem behind
the deck is that you use all your cards, all at
once. If you don’t kill your opponent right there,
then they will likely have a handful of cards, which
they can probably use to pound you into the ground.
The number of cards that work with this card is
huge. I’m not even gonna try to list them all. In
short, if you’re running Speed Burn, use this. If
you aren’t running Speed (or any other type of)
Burn, then don’t.
Traditional: 3/5 (Burn deck only, burn isn’t as
potent here)
Advanced: 4/5 (Burn deck only)

Chain Strike
Chain Strike has been
hurt by the ban list a bunch. This made players stop
side decking Royal Decree and Des Wombat for the
'burn' deck. But Burn isn't gone. I've seen players
still succeed with Chain Strike, even if Chain
Strike is at 1. Since nobody is prepared for it any
more (except the paranoid), Chain Strike can still
make a return. It isn't nearly as powerful and lacks
the consistency it used to posses. I think the deck
can still win duels, but most likely won't last
through out a big tournament like an SJC.
Besides the burn
deck, Chain Strike isn't splash-able to today's
meta, so it has limited use outside of burn. It
doesn't blend into the meta and only has one
specific deck type. However, this card in 3's caused
widespread changes to side decks every where.
For that, it gets the
good rating of 3.5/5. The card isn't that powerful
any more, but the card left bad memories for the
unsuspecting. And that is a good card. |

Chain Strike, shot down by the restriction list;
regardless of the fact that they could not be
chained onto each other to deal obscene amounts of
damage. It is still useable in a burn deck, but no
longer as threatening as being able to run
multiples. A solid burn card. It’s funny, as they
make better cards my reviews shrink, less to whine
about/slam. Meh.
