Today’s card of the week is Vylon Matter. This is
a spell card with mad support to the up and coming
Vylon series, as well as any equip heavy deck.
Its effect goes like this: Select 3 equip spells in
your graveyard and add them to your deck, then
activate one of the two following effects: you can
either destroy 1 card your opponent controls, or
draw a card.
This card in the appropriate deck is very useful.
The first thing it does is replenish your equip
spells, which is most likely the focus if you’re
playing this card at all. Then you can either draw,
making it a one for one in hand advantage, or
destroy any card on your opponent’s field. What
makes this card extremely potent is its ability to
outmaneuver stardust. Because you choose the effect
after the equips are put into the deck, you don’t
choose the second effect until resolution.
And since stardust has to negate the activation, it
misses its timing and can’t stop it.
There are down sides to this card. Since you must
choose exactly 3 equip cards, if one gets removed,
the effect fizzles. But all in all, the flexibility
of this card is what makes it so good.

Vylon Matter is a great new spell, though it
won't work in the majority if decks out there. You
return three Equip Spells from your Graveyard to
your Deck. Then, you draw a card or destroy a card
of your opponent's.
Since most Equips are unplayable in today's
environment (even the good ones), you can't really
splash this into any deck and get away with it. The
best decks to take advantage of Vylon Matter are
those set to abuse Power Tool Dragon. Gigavise and
Morphtronic variants are the usual suspects. In
Gigavise, your deck's fuel runs out when you're out
of copies of Supervise. Instead of relying on Hidden
Armory to reuse them (since it restricts you), you
could use Vylon Matter to not only reuse your
equips, but get an extra card or destruction out of
it. The same applies to Morphtronic decks playing
United We Stand or Double Tool C&D.
Unfortunately Vylon Matter won't see any serious
competitive play outside of combo decks like those.
Equip Spells are all but obsolete, with even
extremely powerful ones like United We Stand being
unlimited and still seeing no play. Being restricted
to a small number of low tier strategies hurts Vylon
Matter's score in the end, even if it is good
support for those strategies.
