Welcome to the only card that isn't junk this week,
Blue-Blooded Oni. We have a Level 4, Dark
attributed, Zombie Monster, with 1000 attack and
1700 defense. Zombies seem to have support out the
ass, but fortunately, this isn't very good, even
though it supports Xyz too. You can detach an Xyz
Material Monster from a card to Special Summon a
Level 4 or lower Zombie from your Graveyard. Aren't
there far easier and superior ways to do this?
Yes--there are. Oni isn't a Tuner, so he loses
playability there, he isn't an Xyz, so that effect
just wastes and kills off an Xyz sooner. The
Special Summon isn't a bad thing, it just is fairly
painful to do. I wouldn't use this in Xyz or
Zombies...
Blue-Blooded Oni is the new Zombie Master, and he
really doesn't hold back. Instead of being a beater,
he's a defender, and instead of discard a monster,
you detach one. Zombies have no problem making Xyz
Summons, with Goblin Zombie (which works under the
new rulings, like Sangan) and Zombie Master, along
with Mezuki, and even Book of Moon. They've got
plenty of ways to get to Utopia, Roach, Zenmaister
and the like.
You can use the new summon to make a second Xyz with
Blue-Blooded Oni (and another Goblin Zombie search),
or you could revive Plaguespreader for a Synchro--or
you could revive the Zombie Master you just detached
and then summon another Zombie after that!
And this isn't a once-per-turn effect, either.
Zombie players, go get your three Onis now!

Art: Some bats are cute. Not this one.
Fun Fact: "Blood" isn't getting censored out of
names any more.

For Friday:
Blue-Blooded Oni
Traditional: 3
Advanced: 3.5
Finally some more zombie support. Zombies have
always been a force to be reckoned with. They
haven't been seeing as much play as they used, but
even so they still manage to top an event every now
and again. With the release of XYZ monsters zombie
decks finally get the well deserved boost they need.
Unless the rulings about material hitting the grave
changes then Blue-Blooded Oni will be just another
useful tool for this next generation of zombie
decks. BB Oni can be search through many means; such
as pyramid turtle, and sports fairly forgettable
stats. It switches to defense mode upon normal or
flip summon...which is also quite forgettable. Its
useful effect would be sending attached XYZ material
to the graveyard to special summon a level four or
lower zombie type monster in said players graveyard.
Thats pretty dam good, and allows for multiple
monsters to hit the field leading to more XYZ
summons. BB Oni gives zombies just another boost
that may help them get back in the top tiers; which
they are not far from to begin with.
Overall, zombies may have a larger presence in the
months to come.
Today's card actually looks like it could actually
be a help to Zombie decks. Oni has a pretty cool
effect, using an Xyz monster's materials to special
summon Zombies from your grave. If you keep Oni on
the field long enough, he could result in quite a
bit of advantage. With 1700 defense, he could be on
the field for a little while. Zombie decks I've seen
lately utilize Tour Guide from the Underworld to Xyz
summon as often as possible so combo all those Xyz
summons and Blue Blooded Oni, you could be special
summoning a lot. After testing the deck myself, Oni
unfortunately isn't fast enough. He either ends up
being a dead draw that I discard for Zombie Master
or remove for Allure or sits in my graveyard because
I have better plays. Oni has some cool combos and
could be in Zombie decks, but I doubt you'd play
more than 1 if any.
