Continuing the Ice theme, we look at Gungnir, Dragon
of the Ice Barrior. Gungnir is a Level 7, Water
attributed Synchro Monster, with 2500 attack and
1700 defense, Synchro Summoned with one Tuner and
one or more non-Tuner, Water Monsters. Immediately
notice the difference from yesterday, the
non-Tuner(s) must be a Water Monster(s). Still,
once per turn you can discard up to two cards to
destroy the same number of cards your opponent
controls. Now, one immediate upside here over
yesterday is that you can )potentially) reuse the
effect. The 2500 attack on a Level 7 is solid, the
only real thing hurting Gungnir is the fact that the
specific type of Monster to Synchro.
Finishing this short week is Gungnir, Dragon of
the Ice Barrier. Gungnir is the only dragon in the
archetype to require some kind of specificity when
summoning him, a WATER non-tuner. 2500 attack is
great for a level 7 synchro. At the cost of
discarding up to two cards to the graveyard (fishborg,
treeborn, or ronintoadin as ex.) you can destroy an
equal number of cards on the field. The WATER
non-tuner requirement hurts its playability, but not
all dragons can be as easy as Brionac, my bad he is
a Sea Serpent.
The level 7 Ice Barrier Dragon, Gungnir is probably
the worst of the three. Although he isn’t bad,
Trishula and Brionac are just better. Level 7 isn’t
necessarily difficult to make, but Gungnir requires
a non-tuner Water monster which could be a problem
for some people. The key play I think of when it
comes to making Gungnir is using Debris Dragon to
bring back Snowman Eater. However you make him, his
effect still isn’t as good as the other Ice Barrier
Dragons. Because he is a little bit harder to make
and his effect isn’t as good, Gungnir hasn’t seen as
much play. Consider it for your extra deck if you’re
running Water monsters, but it probably isn’t
necessary

Gungnir, Dragon of the
Ice Barrier
Short week this week folks, and starting off is
Gungnir, Dragon if the Ice Barrier. This was once
one of the more sought after cards when Hidden
Arsenal 3 was released because of Snowman Eater's
heavy usage. Now, it has fallen somewhat out of
favor due to better Extra Deck options and a lack of
usable WATER monsters. That's not to say it's bad at
all. In fact it's still quite potent and is a threat
once it hits the field. Discarding up to two cards
to destroy the same number of your opponent's cards
is good. Obviously some decks utilize Gungnir better
than others, having access to WATER monster easier,
but a this card is an easy Summon with Debris Dragon
and a teched Snowman Eater. While it's not as
popular as it once was, it's still a good enough
Synchro, and be aware of it so it doesn't take you
by surprise.
