Black Luster Soldier--Envoy of the Beginning
(remember him?) is a name I haven't heard in a long
time...a long time. (A million cool points to
anyone who got that obscure, paraphrased reference.)
Anyway, I wrote an article about the return of Black
Luster Soldier last week, touching on some ideas and
thoughts I have,
http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/FeaturedWriters/Dark_Paladin/2009/8-19-11.shtml
so feel free to check out the link in there.
As I kinda was hinting at, our Envoy friend isn't a
bad card, quite the contrary, but it just feels like
after surviving and evolving so long without him, we
don't need him back. I honestly believe that
while the Ban List overall was actually the best in
a couple years, or more, certain cards just need to
stay Banned...I usually have no problem with
something returning from Ban Land, as it's fun
(usually) when things return, only even for six
months. Yata, BLS, and CED should be
permanently Banned, they all had ample time to wreak
various havocs on various Formats.
Ratings:
4/5 all around, both Formats, for reasons ranted
about, and gone over in the article...
Black Luster Soldier--Envoy of the Beginning is NOT
the best card in this Format, just saying...and
that's a fact!

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
That's right, people--Black Luster Soldier - Envoy
of the Beginning has been unbanned after six long
years, heralding a format of nothing but Chaos
monsters. Tour Guide, Sangan, Effect Veiler, Rai-Oh,
Chaos Sorcerer at 3, and now this. As if 3000 ATK
wasn't enough, you can banish any monster you don't
like--including face-down ones. Or, if your opponent
has nothing tricky out, you can attack twice,
meaning a one turn kill if you have Honest in-hand.
BLS is absurd, and will be one of the new format's
top threats. Prepare to see Chaos, Chaos, and
absolutely nothing but Chaos. He's banishing all
your monsters and even Effect Veiler can only stall
his destruction. If you aren't running Chaos, you're
using Thunder King Rai-Oh and a deck that can
destroy this guy whenever he comes out. And the
catch is that the new format will have almost no
trap cards.

Fun Fact; There is nothing fun about this card.
Sorry.
Tomorrow: When I was your age, we made OTK's with
this card.
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning,
what else more is there to say? It’s back. This card
has been forbidden for years and was never thought
to see the light of day again. Hello Chaos, hello
twilight, hello anything that runs lights and darks.
A splashable boss monster with a joke of summoning
requirement and an effect that is beyond game
breaking, but any player should know this by heart.
Once per turn you can remove from play an opponent’s
monster or if it attacks and destroys a monster it
can attack again in a row. Broken Broken Broken. An
aside: with this newly limited and JD at three be
quite prepared for the ignition ruling change (which
is often misstated as the priority ruling change).

Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
Today we start looking at cards affected by the ban
list. Leading off our discussion is Black Luster
Solider. Since his Gold Series reprint back in July,
everyone expected his return. Basically a powered-up
Chaos Sorcerer, the Envoy is ridiculous. Not only
does he have the same summoning conditions as Chaos
Sorcerer, but he has more attack/defense, can remove
face-down monsters with his effect, and can destroy
a monster and attack again. There has been a lot of
hype about Twilight this format and because BLS is
light, he can even be brought back by Beckoning
Light. I personally think he should have stayed
banned (especially with Oppression gone), but we’ll
see how this format goes. Black Luster Soldier –
Envoy of the Beginning is simply amazing.
Everyone's worst fears of the format were true when
the September 2011 Forbidden/Limited List was
released: Black Luster Soldier was coming back. Many
years back, before the creation of the F/L List,
Chaos decks reigned supreme. And for good reason.
This card and Chaos Emperor Dragon were arguably the
two most broken cards in the game. Now with, BLS
coming back and Chaos Sorcerer still at 3, Chaos
decks can make a huge return to the meta. BLS can
activate one of two effects once per turn. He can
remove from play any 1 monster on the field. That's
huge. It doesn't even have to be face-up. That
effect basically lets him do the same thing as
attacking without fear of Mirror Force or
Dimensional Prison. Speaking of attacking, his other
effect lets him attack twice per turn if he kills a
monster in battle. With 3000 attack, and being able
to be boosted by Honest, that effect is what lets
him win games. Watch out for this guy. He will be
making appearances at a lot of tables come next
format.

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
Is it the beginning of the end? Or the beginning of
anew?
Well, welcome back to Chaos format!
Today, we have a legendary monster show us it's
powers once again. This fearsome monster stands at a
crushing 3000ATK and a shield of 2500ATK. Who would
have thought such a commanding soldier would appear
once again. A Warrior of Light descends upon the
meta from the forbidden list. Wait till you read
it's effects. If it battles and destroys your
opponent's monster by battle, it can attack once
again, in a row. And it doesn't stop there; on top
of that, it can also remove a monster on the field
from play but cannot battle. All of this for a
measly light and dark monster in your graveyard.
This VERSATILE monster can be placed into
practically any deck. It's as easy as Tour Guide ->
Sangan -> Effect Veiler.
Need a boss monster? Here you go.
Oh, and don't worry bout that back row either. Best
have that Effect Veiler handy.
