Laval Lancelord is the first or probably several
Laval cards we will review. As with Flamvell decks,
Laval decks can be explosive. You can even combine
these two deck types as they are both fire and
compatible with Rekindling. Laval Lancelord can be
summoned with Flamevell Firedog or added to the hand
with Flamvell Poun.
Laval Lancelord has some nifty effects that work
well with the Laval theme. First, you can normal
summon Lancelord without a tribute. With 2100
attack, it will get over most monsters in the game.
So if you destroy a monster by battle and then send
this card to the grave during the end phase, you get
an even exchange. If your opponent destroys
Lancelord, you get a banished fire monster to your
hand giving you a plus 1. You could even play
Creature Swap with a bigger monster and destroy it
in battle and get another plus 1 or just Creature
Swap and end up with your opponent’s monster. It’s
all good!
The two things that Laval decks do very well are
to banish cards from the graveyard for effects and
using Laval monsters in the graveyard for effects.
Laval Lancelord does both these things. It goes to
the graveyard to power up other Laval monster
effects and uses the banish zone to restock your
hand. Let’s take a look at some of the combo’s this
card has. Summon Lancelord and remove Kayenn, the
Master Magma Blacksmith from the grave to boost
Lancelord to 2500 attack. Attack into one of the
many Sychro or Xyz monsters with 2500 attack and
then get Kayenn to the hand. Plus 1’s are good. You
can even use this same trick in the TCG with
Torrential Tribute to clear the field of your
opponent’s monsters.
What is nice about many of the Laval monsters is
that they have the ability to be at least 2100 in
attack. Right now we have today’s card and Laval’s
from Hidden Arsenal #5/Duel Terminal #5. Prominence,
Molten Swordsman banishes 1 Laval monster from the
grave to be 2100 atk and Laval Burner at 2100 atk
only needs 3 different Laval monsters in the grave
to summon.
Let’s try another combo. Rekindle 2x Laval Forest
Sprite, Kayenn and 2x Lancelord’s to the field.
Synchro a Sprite and Kayenn into Laval Dual Slasher.
Synchro the other Sprite and a Lancelord into
Stardust Dragon. Then banish Kayenn. Laval Dual
Slasher will be at least 3600 attack with piercing
and the ability to attack again if it attacked a
face-down monster, and Laval Lancelord will be at
3300 attack. That gives you at least 9400 in attacks
with Stardust Dragon protecting you from
destruction. Witness the power of Laval’s and we
have not even talked about their support cards.
The Laval deck type could be pretty good, but I
think like Flamvell, they are under the influence of
Chaos and the might of Plant/Synchro. I would not be
surprised to see a Laval deck top a YCS and if it
does, I think that Laval Lancelord with be a part of
it.
