Malefic Monsters...anyway, today we look at
Malefic Truth Dragon, a Level 12 Dragon, of the Dark
attribute, with 5000 attack and defense. I would say
anything with that much power at least deserves a
serious look as to whether or not it should be in
your Deck. Right off the bat, you cannot Normal
Summon or Set this Monster, so we hope there isn't
an absurd Special Summoning requirement involved
here. Some of the Malefic Monsters you could
actually play in other Decks, but as for this
particular one, it more or less needs a Malefic Deck
to function properly. If a face-up Malefic Monster
is destroyed (note not necessarily yours) you can
pay half your Lifepoints to Special Summon this card
from your Hand or the Graveyard. As you should know,
there can only be one face-up Malefic Monster on the
Field, and if there isn't a face-up Field Magic card
on the Field, this card is destroyed. Now, what can
Malefic Truth Dragon do? Not a whole lot, to be
honest. If it destroys a Monster in Battle, all
face-up Monsters your opponent controls are
destroyed. Certainly not a bad effect, but you have
to jump through a lot of hoops for this Special
Summon, and the 5000 attack is beastly awesome, but
not enough to play this card with the limited effect
I think.

Tuesday here on SJ promo week has us looking at
the powerful Malefic Truth Dragon. Truth Dragon is a
level 12 Dark/Dragon type with 5000 ATK and DEF.
Stats rivaled by 5 Headed Dragon. Truth Dragon's
effect is not to be over-looked. Truth Dragon cannot
be normal summoned or set, but only special summoned
by its own effect. If a face up Malefic monster you
control is destroyed by either battle or card
effect, you can pay half of your life points to
special summon Truth Dragon from your hand or grave.
You can control only one Malefic monster at a time
and if there is no field spell active, destroy this
card. If Truth Dragon destroys an opponent's monster
by battle, destroy all face up monsters your
opponent controls. A bit of text there. To get it on
the field, you have to have it either in your hand
or in the grave. It' a bit much to get it from your
deck to your hand, so might want to use cards like
Armageddon Knight, Foolish Burial or Future Fusion
to get it in the grave. What's interesting is you
can destroy your own Malefic monster(s) with card
effects like Torrential Tribute or Dark Hole to get
out Truth Dragon, or use it as a counter from your
opponent's cards such as the aforementioned two and
others like Black Rose Dragon. There's a lot you can
do with this card, including equipping Truth Dragon
with Megamorph after paying half your life points.
The real tricks are getting it on the field, and
keeping it there long enough. With triple Mystical
Space Typhoons and Heavy Storm, it may not stay long
enough as your opponent will be aiming for the weak
spot of almost all Malefic monsters and that's the
field spell cards that keep them alive.

This monster has nice stats, but is hard to get
out as it requires a different Malefic monster
already be in play and get destroyed to bring him
out by paying a hefty amount of life points.
To be honest, I've never liked Malefic monsters
because they seem like more toruble to get out and
keep out to be worth the effort, despite their
effects and stats and MTD is no exception.
In Traditional you have Raigeki which does the
same thing and much easier. In Advanced, There's
Dark Hole, which nukes the field, allowing you to
follow up with a summon and attack directly. With
choices like that, it's easy to bypass this guy for
something way easier to get out that isn't so
vulnerable.
