#7 - Herald of Perfection
#TSHD-EN019 This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "Dawn of the Herald". When your opponent activates a Spell Card, Trap Card, or Effect Monster's effect, you can send 1 Fairy-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard to negate the activation and destroy that card.

Card number 7 on our list is the Counter King,
Herald of Perfection. Herald is an amazing card. No
contest. Unfortunately, he’s not exactly what you’d
call ‘versatile’, as he can only really be used in a
deck built around him, but what he does, he does
very well. He gives you protection against anything
other than Counter Traps, though that’s what
Decree’s for. And his cost is very easy to fulfill,
as most Herald decks run an absolutely massive
amount of monsters in the deck. A battle against a
Herald deck is a battle to rid your opponent of
his/her hand, and once Tethys comes out, that battle
has just been lost. Herald helped revive the fairy
deck, which had grown weak over time, and with the
coming of the new fairy structure deck, expect
Herald to get bigger. All in all, he would’ve gotten
a better rating if he were more versatile, but he’s
still one heck of an engine. Also, I give Herald
props for bringing Ritual cards back into the game,
as they’d all but disappeared until Herald came out.

Today's card on our countdown at number 7 is
Herald of Perfection. I'm not going to waste both
yours and my time by reciting what this card does,
because if you don't know what this fairy-mash-up's
effect is by now, you need to come out from the rock
you've been hiding under. In essence, this card is
what almost single-handedly propelled fairies into
tier 1.5. One of the best things about this
cards effect is the fact that it's effect is spell
speed 2, which allows you to chain to a multitude of
things. One of the few downsides about its effect,
though, is that, while it is an amazing effect,
every time you use it, you're losing hand advantage.
This is slightly evened out by the fact that by
using its effect, you are generally making your
opponent lose field or hand advantage, but it's
still something that should be taken into
consideration.
All in all, one of the only things that can take
this card down is a monster which can get over this
messenger's massive 2800 defense, and those don't
tend to be easy to summon. Or running out your
opponents hand, which, in most Herald decks, is
unlikely.
Traditional: 3.5/5 (Can't see this being quite as
good in tradit)

Today we're looking at the fairy's impenetrable
wall. If you've ever wanted to run a fairy control
deck than this is your card. The Herald's attack
isn't that impressive but that's not what you
should be caring about when playing this card. All
you need to had near perfect control is to keep this
card in the field, and 2800 defense is great for
accomplishing this task. Overall I believe that
fairy decks that revolve around this card have the
best chance of succeeding at the tournament level
over any other kind if fairy deck (well, until we
get the lost sanctuary structure deck anyways). The
only way to really get over this card is by synching
into a monster bigger that this one. However, since
your opponent can't use any effects, it should be
easy enough to stop any plans they have while
keeping your wall on the field doing its job.

#7 on our list is the Herald of Perfection. It is
a light type fairy that stirred up some trouble in
the Shining Darkness pack. It is a six star ritual
monster with 1800 ATK, and a whopping 2800 DEF. That
defense stat alone makes it a great wall to sit on,
but its effect is the true kicker. You can discard a
fairy from your hand to negate the activation of a
spell card, trap card, or monster effect. Now,
its ritual card is well placed support for it. You
can only ritual summon him with a combination of
exactly 6 stars, but after it is summoned, you can
get one of the tribute cards back in your hand by
removing the ritual spell. This card screams broken.
It sits there (in a deck made around him) negating
whatever your opponent throws at you, and waits for
your opponent to use all their resources on one
card, or let you manipulate the graveyard with a
kristya or a mudora in the wings. Though it can’t
stop special summons, or spell speed 3, or spell and
trap cards already active, it’s quite handy to have
around when effects go flying. As long as you keep
your fairy to opponent’s card ratio equal, or higher
you’re good. Or you know, just break out your
best bluff.
Traditional: 4/5 (it’s still just as big a pain to
get over)
Advanced: 4.5/5
Art: 5/5 (a combination of the three biggest pains
you never see coming)

Thursday
Herald of Perfection I like a lot, yet have little
experience, as even though Counter Fairies remain
reasonably strong, they aren't the most popular
thing I play against. We have a Level 6, Light
attributed Fairy monster, with a disgusting and
paltry 1800 attack but a massively impressive
defense of 2800.
Now, if this thing doesn't (obviously) have Counter
Fairy written all over it, this might be one time
where you don't want to ignore a card just because
it's a Ritual. When your opponent activates a
Magic, Trap, or Effect monster card, you can negate
the activation of the card and destroy it by
discarding a Fairy from your Hand to the Graveyard.
I like it...I like it a lot. The 2800 defense
more than makes up for the 1800 attack, and being a
Ritual, you don't have to Special Summon this to the
Field in attack position. Your opponent will
almost likely have to use some sort of destruction
to destroy this card, or at least waste it until
your Hand is gone.
Ratings:
Traditional: 3/5 Rituals are bad, but a
Counter Fairy Deck should still use it.

Oh, and my review for Herald of Perfection isn't
on there...
Herald of Perfection hits #7 on the ugly list and
the best cards of 2010. It's like shiny SpongeBob.
But enough of my musings. You hate this card. I know
you do. It just sits there and negates every.
single. thing. Then its pal Kristya comes in and
that's game.
We've all faced Fairies. We've all reached across
the table and ripped apart that Kristya/Herald.
We've all gotten DQ'd for tearing up the opponent's
Fairy deck because that's the only move we COULD do.
Even Perfect Herald's Ritual Spell is out to get
you. It brings fuel right out. Kristya won't even
let you summon your way over the Herald, then Honest
comes into the cycle. If you can't stop Herald's
summon, that's probably game. Thankfully, Solemn
Warning means less Heralds, so the deck has fallen
out of the spotlight. And not a moment to soon,
because nobody wants to face this behemoth.
4/5
Art: Shiny SpongeBob.
Fun Fact: Archlord Kristya will be a starter deck
common.
Tomorrow: Hit the list and its deck hit rock bottom.
