Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Blackwing - Kogarashi the Wanderer
#EXCV-EN009

When a face-up "Blackwing" monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Also, if you used this card as a Synchro Material to Synchro Summon, your opponent cannot activate the effects of Spell Cards, Trap Cards, or Effect Monsters.

Blackwing – Kogarashi the Wanderer

Another new member to the Blackwing archetype, Kogarashi the Wanderer has a slightly easier effect to pull off than its kin, Hillen the Tengu-wind, and as such, could find its way into competitive builds sooner.

Like most Blackwing monsters, Kogarashi doesn’t help the objectives of any Traditional format deck.

In the Advanced format, Kogarashi can Special Summon itself from the hand whenever a face-up Blackwing monster is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the graveyard. This can be useful in a variety of situations. Responding to such cards as Scrap Dragon, Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, Black Rose Dragon, and others, gives Kogarashi a versatility that few Blackwing cards have, at least from a defensive perspective. With a respectable 2300 attack, it can be the perfect card to drop after the field is nuked, leaving the opponent with one more problem to contend with. Even if the field is left intact, Kogarashi’s second effect can come in handy in a variety of situations: aside from having its summon negated, it can protect whatever Synchro it summons from cards such as Torrential, Effect Veiler, Bottomless Trap Hole, and also makes it so that the first effect that happens upon a successful Synchro Summon cannot be responded to by the opponent. This means that if you decide to drop a Black Rose Dragon, your opponent can only negate the Summon – otherwise, the entire field gets wiped, and nothing, not even Divine Wrath or Effect Veiler, can be used in response. Taking these two effects into account, Blackwing Kogarashi the Wanderer seems like another good tech card that could find its way into Blackwing decks.

Whoa...nice pose guy. This is the blackwing that should have you shook up. Nah not really, but far from trashington. When a faceup BW you control is destroyed and sent to the grave you can SS this bad boy...bird...whats with that anyway? Blackwings being either strange birds or dudes in cosplay or humanoid birds...what was I oh yeah sent to the graveyard you can SS this wanderer. 23/16 stats are really nice.
Level 6 is pretty high for a tuner but still the option remains. In synching with this card you are basically free to have a good time as the monster cannot be stopped by spell, trap or monster effect. Solemn, nope, Warning, nope, janky replacement for Warning since you spent your money on some new J's doesn't work either. Overall, not a terrible blackwing, and should see some play. I still think the archtype needs something better to get back on the top tables in large numbers.
