Lightserpent, a Level 3, Light attributed, Reptile
type Monster, with 1200 attack and 800 defense.
This, like yesterday's card, is really useful in XYZ
Summoning, specifically a Monster who would be Rank
3. It has the ability to Special Summon from
the Graveyard, but unlike yesterday, only if sent
from your Hand to the Graveyard. Also, unlike
yesterday, this card cannot be used as Synchro
Material Monster, which is fairly irrelevant as its
not a Tuner either.

Our card today is another useful card in
summoning Xyz monsters. Unfortunately, it is useless
for synchro summons or this card would be awesome.
Lightserpent can be used in Reptile decks, but the
decks that can utilize this card the best in are
light decks. Just like the card we reviewed the
other day, Lightserpent is a light monster so decks
that can run Photon Veil and Beckoning Light love
this card. Let me point out that if you discard or
send this card to the graveyard, you will get its
effect. If you use it as a cost, you will also get
its effect. Lightserpent is very resilient.
Therefore, using cards like Hand and Card
Destruction, Darkworld Dealings, Snipe Hunter,
Brionic, Zombie Master, Fabled Raven, and Phoenix
Wing Wind Blast.
As you can see, Lightserpent can go into a bevy of
decks. It is also a Light so it works great with
BLS. Let’s take a look at some pretty cool tricks
that you can do with this card. Summon Fabled Raven
and discard Lightserpent. This will give us 2 Rank
3’s to Xyz summon. We could also Summon Zombie
Master, discard Lightserpent to special summon
Goblin Zombie, and then Xyz summon a Rank 3 monster.
We could get three Lightserpents in hand with Photon
Veil and play Beckoning Light to get all three to
the field for a Rank 3 Xyz that requires 3 monsters.
We could also use it in a monarch deck with Phoenix
Wing Wind Blast. Try this: Pop one card with
Phoenix, use Enemy Controller to snatch a monster
and then tribute it for Caius to get rid of 3 cards
on your opponent’s field.
The list of uses for this card goes on and on. The
one thing that I do not like about Lightserpent is
that it is dependant on being sent to the graveyard
to get any use out of it and then you still have to
do something with it when it comes out.
Traditional: 2/5 (it’s a light)

Lightserpent is our middle of the road monster
this week on pojo. A level 3 Light/Reptile with 1200
ATK and 800 DEF and its effect says if it's sent
from your hand to the graveyard, you can special
summon from the graveyard. Also Lightserpent cannot
be used as Synchro material. Hand Destruction is the
first card that comes to mind, you get to draw two
cards while getting a monster special summoned on
your field. No. 10 Illumiknight combos with this
card as well. Even in a snake deck with cards like
Damage = Reptile and Snake Whistle, can get you your
Lightserpents. Its weak points are grave removal
cards like Macro Cosmos and D.D. Crow, and the fact
that you cannot use Lightserpent as synchro material
hurts this card as well. And it doesn't make for the
best topdeck. This card can generate advantage if
you can send it to the grave when you need it. A
good card, not the best, but decent.

Tomorrow: Speaking of D.D......
I'm back! And today's card is a new card from
Photon Shockwave, Lightserpent!
Lightserpent is a LIGHT Reptile monster with 1200
ATK and 800 DEF. It won't be winning you any battles
soon, but what this card lacks in offensive
capability, it makes up with its effect that Special
Summons itself when it is sent from the hand to the
Graveyard, the only condition is that it can't be
used for Synchro Summons.
As a LIGHT monster this card has plentiful support,
most notably is Beckoning Light. The fact that
Lightserpent's effect can't miss the timing either
is a point worth mentioning as it means it can be
discarded for costs and such and still gain its
effect. This card's main purpose is easy Xyz fodder
for Rank 3 Xyz', but unless there is a card that can
combo off it for an easy Rank 3 without losing
advantage, I don't think it's worth it.

We’ve got another remake card
of a years-old banned card, Lightserpent!
Lightserpent is a Light,
Reptile-type monster (well duh). The less obvious
attributes of this card is that when ever it is sent
from the hand to the graveyard, you can special
summon it. This is actually pretty good effect. It
can’t miss the timing and works with any method of
hand destruction or discarding (even costs!). The
balancing factor of this card is that it can’t be
used as synchro material, but it can still be used
for tribute summons and Xyz summons though.
You can use Photon Veil and a
card that discards as a cost (such as Snipe Hunter
or Brionac) to open up the field for several direct
attacks. Then, you can use Photon Booster to raise
your attack to 2000 for at least 6000 points of
direct damage. And you’ll still have the serpents
left over for an Xyz summoning!
Overall, this is no where near
as strong as the original card, but functions pretty
well if you do a lot of discarding.
Traditional:2/5 (the original,
Sinister Serpent, remains the king of discards)
Advanced: 3.25/5 (I’d say that it’s better than your
average card but neither broken nor an enabler)
Art: 3/5 (would have looked better in ultimate)
When discarded from hand to grave, you can special
summon it. Can’t be used for Synchro material.
There isn’t too much to say about this card, but the
BIG worthwhile effect is that it is a free special
summon when discarded. Snipe Hunter, Lightening
Vortex, Brionac, etc.
A well timed discard can lead to a Leviathan Dragon
or Leviair.
Pros: Free special summon, searchable via sangan,
chaos food, and easy access to the iccarus attack
for reptiles (can’t think of the name), and an easy
rank 4 xyz.
Cons: can’t be used for a synchro summon.
Traditional: 3/5
Advanced: 4/5 splashable in a lot of decks.

Let Liberty Shine through Lightserpent!
The snake is a very well known mythological
creature, having various symbolic meanings as to its
presence and its power as a creature, so we could
only hope Konami captured the spirit of the snake
with it's latest reptilian friend: Lightserpent.
Any duelist could appreciate the graveyard utility
being highlighted in Photon Shockwave, and
Lightserpent is offering reptiles some nice grave
fodder. Toss him for various effects, knowing you
will be netting that -1 in card advantage back to
make out even. Though not all situations turn out so
perfect, Lightserpent's discarding from hand or deck
will still not be a complete loss on his effect
since he can boost your Vennominon or Vennominaga,
allowing more effectiveness in tight situations for
reptile decks. His attack and def, along with
attribute, is nothing to be intimidated
by...although the chance of your opponent actually
normal summoning this card is slim to none. Throwing
in one small pebble in the path to rating cards
Lightserpent cannot be used for syncho summonings,
so "OH NOO" (need to invent sarcastic font) your
stuck with using this snake for tributes or XYZ
summoning! Lightserpent is a healthy addition to any
snake lovers deck or for anyone who wants some more
effective graveyard fodder...just don't be charmed
by his pretty colors.
Traditional: 2/5 (Situational summon otherwise this
guys a bust)
Advanced: 2.5/5 (For Snake Decks)
2/5 (Any other deck)

going on here...a tip of the hat to Mr. Franklin!

Well... This guy is certainly interesting. I've
never seen a Light-attribute reptile before, and his
effect is alright. He basically could be splashed
into a Dark World deck that could also run Black
Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, if you
wanted a really off the wall deck idea. His effect
isn't bad, but not the most useful in most decks. He
deserves to go into decks designed to make use of
his effect, such as a Dark World deck.
