Uria, Lord of Searing Flames...was eaten by Heavy
Storm and three copies of Mystical Space Typhoon...
That could be the entire review, but for the sake of
argument, let's say it isn't. The Sacred Beasts (or
the "Gods" of the GX era), were never very playable
cards. This one can only be Special Summoned from
your Hand by sending three face-up Continuous Trap
Cards you control to the Graveyard, hence the
opening line of the review. Uria gains 1000 attack
for each Continuous Trap in your Graveyard, and once
per turn, can destroy a set Magic or Trap card your
opponent controls. Said effect cannot be responded
to by Magic or Trap cards. In short, this Format is
beyond poison for Uria, as if you were going to play
it anyway.

It's the middle of the week and today's COTD is
an oldie, but can be a goodie. Uria, Lord of Searing
Flames. This is one of the 3 Sacred Beasts from the
GX anime and has the potential to pack a mean punch.
Uria is LVL 10, Fire, Pyro-type with 0 for
both ATK and DEF. Uria cannot be normal summoned. It
can only be Special Summoned by sending 3 face up
continuous trap cards you control to the grave and
no other way can this card be special summoned.
Sorry to both UFO Turtle and Monster Reborn on this
one. This card gains 1,000 ATK for each Con. trap
card in the grave and once per turn you can destroy
one set spell/trap your opponent controls. AND
Spells/Traps cannot be activated in response to that
effect, so Divine Wrath cannot stop Uria. He can be
searched with Sangan, always good. It would seem
that 3 Continuous trap cards can be a pain to keep
on the field, with good cards like Call of the
Haunted (At 2 right now), Gravity Bind, Ordeal of a
Traveler, Solemn Wishes, and Mirror Wall, but
with MST at 3, and Heavy Storm just a top deck away,
getting out Uria may take longer than it's worth.
Uria needs its own deck, but even then it may not
hit the field.
Traditional: 1 Nothing is sacred here.
Advanced: 2 Too much S/T removal to be effective

Tormentor!
Tomorrow: This one's a real copycat.

Uria, Lord of Searing Flames
Alright, so after a hectic cram
session for a midterm, I’ve got my wits back in
order.
Continuing the legendary
collection week is uria, one of the promo cards
guaranteed in every legendary collection binder.
Alright, so this guy can’t be
normal summoned or set, and must be special summoned
from your hand by sending three face up trap cards
you control to the grave. And this guy gains 1000 ATK for each cont.
trap in the grave, so at the very least, this guy is
packing 3000 ATK.But having three face up traps at the same
time to send for this guy in the format of heavy
space typhoons is a bit of a chore.
But, the other part of his
effect is not as rewarding as you would like for
having finally brought this guy out. That being said, it’s not terrible, in that
you get to target one set spell/trap card that your
opponent controls, and destroy said target. The thing that keeps this being a decent
effect is that your opponent cannot chain spells or
traps to this effect, ensuring the target is
destroyed.
While this guy is certainly
interesting, I don’t see many decks that come to
mind running three or more continuous trap cards,
barring macro cosmos.

Well, the first of the GX 'Divine Beast' cards
and the one that is the hardest to get out, symply
because with so much S/T removal out there, keeping
3 continuous Traps in play is incredibly difficult.
He has an excellent effect if you can get him out,
but lacks any way to protect himself from monster
removal. A good fun card, but not for competative
use, sad to say.

Today’s card is Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, one
of three Sacred Beast Monsters, first released in
the Shadow of Infinity booster series, then released
in Dark Revelations #4, and as Tin Promos, and now
in the Legendary Collection #2 set as one of the 3
cover cards. The Sacred Beasts were modeled after
the God cards are similar in many ways, especially
in the art work. Uria was modeled after Slifer the
Sky Dragon and gets it’s name after Uriah who was
murdered by King David after King David had an
affair with Uriah’s wife. For those of you who
followed the GX anime series, if you remember, the
Sacred Beasts were sealed beneath the Duel Academy
and required seven spirit keys to unlock them.
Now that we have the color commentary out of the
way, let’s talk about what this card can do for you.
It takes 3 continuous trap cards to special summon
Uria, so you will need to run a deck heavy in
continuous traps. The best fit for this card is in a
stall/burn type deck, or an anti-meta type deck, as
we have a plethora of continuous trap cards at our
disposal. For stalling, we have cards like Fiendish
Chain, Gravity Bind, Wall of Revealing Light, and
Metal Reflect Slime. For burn, we can add in
Nightmare Wheel, Zoma the Spirit, and Gen Flash
Energy. For anti-meta, you can throw in Light and
Shadow Imprisoning Mirrors, Grave of the Super
Ancient Organism, Mask of Restrict, and Skill Drain.
Then protect your traps with Dark Bribe, Fake Trap,
Imperial Customs, and Starlight Road. That should
give you time to get Uria in your hand and maybe
even Heavy Storm via Gold Sarc., to push
through with enough battle damage to win the game.
Just some quick notes on some ruling on this card.
When you summon Uria and activate it’s effect to
destroy a magic or trap card, your opponent cannot
activate a spell or trap in response, so Bottomless
and Torrential Tribute are useless. If you have
Macro Cosmos on the field, you cannot summon Uria
because you cannot pay the cost to send to the
graveyard so you cannot activate the card.
Frankly, I am not a big fan of anti-meta or
stall/burn decks. I find them very annoying and most
top tier decks have too many answers to stopping
them. Effect Veiler will stop Uria dead in it’s
tracks and Uria is too dependant on those continuous
spells and traps.

That Guy
...I Guarantee You Will Want to Flame This One
From yesterday's great new burn card to a card that
has been chilling in most of your binders, how
ironic that such a hot card chills out and is not
used very often. That pre-disposition will be thrown
out of course after today's reviews...let there be
light from the almighty burning candle that is Uria,
Lord of Searing Flames!
God cards, the very idea brings images of the
Pharaoh dropping down one of these bad guys and
wreaking havoc on his opponent, taking out a hefty
portion of their life points but more importantly
blowing their freaking mind away! Uria can do
exactly that, being the replica image and now *more*
legalized form of Slifer the Sky Dragon. Breakdown
time: we got an effect that puts our friend in the
“Nomi” card type because of his summoning
conditions, but at 0 atk and def this card is only a
Sangan away! The destruction effect leaves more to
be desired but the negation clause is nice so that
your effect is guaranteed to go off. Having three or
four traps sitting in your grave will add up to a
nice 4000 powerhouse, but the real question is can
you keep this guy on the field when all your
opponent needs is a Compulsory Evacuation Device…
Most reviewers will call this card the minute they
see it, saying things like “not in this format” or
“three MST’s and heavy around” along with “dust
tornado’s, royal decree” and so on but let that
negativity fall on deaf ears in this case. If your
dedicated to building a deck that can flourish with
Uria go ahead and build it, or maybe you just want
add in some muscle and aggression to your stall burn
deck…that works too! At the end of the day there is
a reason why this guy has the word “Lord” in his
name.
