Gladiator Beast Lanista, a Level 4, Wind attributed,
Winged-Beast Monster, with 1800 attack and 1200
defense. When Lanista is Special Summoned via
effect of another Gladiator Beast, you can select
and remove a Gladiator Beast from your Graveyard
from play. Lanista then becomes that card, at least
in terms of name. At the end of the Battle Phase
when this card attacks or was attacked, you can
shuffle it back into the Deck, and Special Summon a
Gladiator Beast from the Deck, present company
excluded of course. I like Lanista, it opens up
possibilities, if only in identity theft. It's got
a strong enough attack, and is a real asset to
Gladiators, and even Wind or Winged Beasts.

Todays COTD is a good one, despite my loathing of
G.B. decks in general, I know a good card for a deck
type when i see it. Gladiator Beast Lanista is a LVL
4 Wind/Winged Beast with 1800 ATK and 1200 DEF. The
stats are good for a LVL 4 and being a Winged Beast
is another way to use Icarus Attack. Lanista's
effect is when it is special summoned by the effect
of another gladiator beast, target and banish one
Gladiator Beast in your graveyard and Lanista
inherits that name until the end phase. That is
pretty good...damn good. Of course it also has that
"Go back into the deck and get another G.B." trick
that they all do, so that's expected with anything
with Gladiator Beast in its name. This card works
great for those contact fusions. There is no reason
not to run at least 1-2 of Lanista.

Sorry for not reviewing yesterday guys! But I'm
back, and today we're reviewing Gladiator Beast
Lanista!
Gladiator Beast Lanista is an interesting WIND
Winged Beast-Type monster with 1800 ATK and 1200
DEF. Pretty standard stats. It's effect allows it to
take on the name of any Gladiator Beast in your
Graveyard until the end of the turn, by banishing
that monster.
Not too keen on this card. Sure it can take on the
name of Bestiari allowing for addition Gyzarus-abuse,
but banishing Bestiari suuuuucks.
I'd rather re-use Bestiari with Darius and other
Special Summoning effects that don't banish it.
Sure, I guess this card could be used for Heraklinos
and Laquari, but were Glad players every having
problems with getting a Laquari on the field?
Yeah.
Traditional: 1/5 - Not sure on how Glads do in Trad,
but I can only assume that Lanista won't help/
Advanced: 2/5 - I may not like the card, but it is a
Gladiator Beast.
It has good support, decent stats and an effect that
can be utilized in a beneficial way. I just don't
think it is worth using.
Art: 3/5 - I've always liked the GB's art scheme,
this one is no exception. The scratches and dents in
the armour is a nice touch too.

The American Gladiators welcome a new challenger
with open arms, Gladiator Beast Lanista!
Lanista provides decks with a monster capable of
taking on the name of a monster in the graveyard.
The monster that loses its identity is banished;
that makes this a fairly balanced card. In an
emergency, Lanista can take the name of Bestiari in
order to summon Gyzarus or the name of Laquari in
order to summon Heraklinos. At 1800 ATK, this card
is a good starter that can find its way into a
Gladiator Beast deck. It all depends on your build.
Lanista will shine in a name-specific fusion
deck.Being winged-beast doesn’t hurt it either. It
gives Gladiator Beast an Icarus Attack option

Gladiator Beast Lanista
Alright, so we get a new Glad
beast! Sadly it’s not that amazing.Lanista is a level four wind attribute, with
a nice ATK of 1800 for a Glad beast. He carries the same tradition the rest of the
glad beasts do, when you atk, or when he is
attacked, he returns to the deck to special out
another glad beast. But his effect is rather lackluster. You can banish one glad beast monster in your
graveyard, and lanistas name becomes that monsters
name until the end phase.
Reading this you think, ok,
some variation of prisma. While that is true, removing from play
(banishing…) in a gladiator beast deck is not the
best thing you want to be doing, unless you happen
to be going for game that turn.
Lanista being a winged beast
does make him a good addition to icarus glads, but
they really don’t see much play (that I know of)
All in all, I guess you could
try him out, but unless I’m missing a very broken
play, he doesn’t seem too great.
I believe this is a nice addition to the Gladiator
Beast line-up, granted this is the only GB monster (heraklinos
aside) that was reprinted as an ultra in the set
instead of secret. The deck is already tight on
space as it is, but I firmly believe that this in
conjunction with E-HERO Prisma, can be an easier way
to get out your big Fusion monsters if say you have
GB Darius/Retiari in the grave and already used your
recursion or “Pot of Avarice”. I would run 1 at most
as it can be dead if the effect isn’t active. Also,
it is another target for the builds that use “Icarus
Attack.” PLUS, how can you not be afraid when
you have a Gladiator Chicken with a metal toothpick
chasing you!?

Yet another Gladiator Beast for the already
expansive archetype. This card makes for a good late
game card for use in fusions. Since G. B. Bestary is
limited, this card can help you get more use out of
him for bringing out your big guys. His stats are
fairly reasonable, which I find odd as most cards
with these kinds of effects tend to have poor stats
to compensate, so this guy can work great throughout
the game for a little extra low-level muscle. An all
around good card that obviously works best in a G.
B. deck.

We once thought that Gladiator Beast Lanista
would have broken effects and make Glads the deck to
beat again. When we found out that Lanista’s effect
was only so so, the thought on this card became that
it was crappy. That’s what happens when a card does
not match the hype and expectations for it. Let’s
take a look at the pros and con’s of this card.
Cons
The problem with Lanista is that it removes a Glad
from play so we can’t use the Glad for the rest of
the game. If that Glad is Bestiari, we are summoning
Gyzarus for the last time. Maybe we will get a card
in the Future like Parallel World Fusion for
Gladiators, but for right now, Lanista’s effect is
more of a detriment than a positive. All we have
right now is Return from a Different Dimension. In a
Dimensional Fissure Glad deck, this draw back may
not be that much of a problem. In fact, it could
make running Guardian Eatos a possibility. The
problem that I and most people have with Lanista is
that Darius does a better job at making Gyzarus and
you can reuse Bestiari to make more. Elemental Hero
Prisma does a better job at becoming Bestiari
because it sends it to the grave so Darius or one of
our two Call of the Haunteds can use it later. So
why play Lanista?
Pros
Gladiator Beast Lanista is a Winged Beast. Now that
Icarus Attack is back to three, we can play more
aggressively with Icarus/Glads. The other Winged
Beasts are Equeste at 1600 ATK and Bestiari at 1500
ATK, so Lanista at 1800 ATK gives Glads more muscle
and more targets for Icarus. It also gives Glads
another target for Swallow’s Nest, so you can search
Bestiari from the deck. Having more attack power
could allow Lanista to stay on the field longer so
you can get two Glads out and Contact Fusion for
Essedarif, a 2500 ATK monster. This is important
because Gladiator Beast’s worst nightmare is
Stardust Dragon at 2500 ATK. Gladiator Beast Lanista,
when used with Gladiator Beast Spartacus, can make
Gladiator Beast Gaiodiaz at 2600 ATK. Playing
Spartacus with the equip card Gladiator Beast’s
Battle Gladius can also defeat a Stardust Dragoon.
Although Gladiator Beast Lanista is not broken, it
is still a viable card to be played in Gladiator
Beast decks. The Japanese meta is playing 1-2 of
this card in their decks. If you are a Gladiator,
you might just want to give this card a try.

I'm going loco for Lanista...that is Gladiator Beast
Lanista! Around the Florida beat Gladiator Beasts
have stayed strong, still placing in tournaments as
a commanding force...I just wanted to get that
message across before everyone shouted “GB is dead”.
On to more pressing details, what makes Lanista the
next must play card for Gladiator Beasts...
The stats are great, nice and balanced, being a
winged beast means a splash of Icarus, and the whole
Prisma-esq effect is just delicious! Taking
advantage of your graveyard, Lanista is giving GB
players more flexibility and options when it's time
to fuse; just another page torn from the E-Hero
handbook! The various mixes, matches, and overall
possibilities Gladiator Beast offer means that this
little birdie will be showing up in no time, or
not...considering that there is a total of
twenty-one GB to use (including fusions). This card
has potential, a nice effect allowing some quick
fusions and some graveyard manipulation... I say
“LONG LIVE LANISTA!”

P.S. I love all you GB enthusiast out there, but
whenever I had versed one of these duelist I always
left with such a headache; i.e.: Return this card,
to use this card, to have that card get it's effect
to cyle these cards. My head is spinning just
thinking about it.
