Ceruli, Guru of Dark World, continues the week.
This is a Level 1, Dark attributed, Fiend-type
Monster, with 100 attack and 300 defense. Now, like
most Dark World Monsters, if discarded by a card
effect, Ceruli gets Special Summoned to the Field,
but this time, to your opponent's side of the Field
in face-up defense position. I don't like that
effect very much, but if this card is Special
Summoned by the effect of a Dark World card, your
opponent discards one card from his/her Hand. That
effect is much better, and easy enough to pull off.
It's a welcome addition to Dark World, but hardly
game breaking, just kinda average.

Ceruli, Guru of Dark World is the first of three
Dark World cards that are vital to the success of a
Dark World Deck. The need for your opponent to
discard from your hand is tremendous as that is when
your Dark Worlds maximize their effects. In the
past, we just had one card that could accomplish
this and that was Dark Deal. It is important to set
all of your magic and trap card and have nothing but
monsters that have discard effects to enhance your
chances of success.
Ceruli can be a difficult card to understand, so let
me tell you how it works. First you discard it with
a Dark World card effect. Cards like Dark Deal, The
Gates of Dark World, Dark World Dealings, and Dark
World Lightning are perfect for this use. Then
Ceruli is special summoned to your opponent’s side
of the field in face-up defense position. Then
Ceruli’s last effect activates and forces you to
discard. Because Ceruli is controlled by your
opponent, your discarded Dark World monster will get
its secondary effect (if any) and wreak havoc upon
your opponent.
Another neat trick is to special summon Ceruli with
Gateway to the Dark World during your opponent’s end
phase. This will force him/her to discard. Then on
your turn, bounce it with Grapha, Dragon Lord of
Dark World to special summon Grapha from the
graveyard and reuse Ceruli. Unfortunately for Dark
Worlds, they are very dependant on card effects, or
I would rare this card higher. They have amazing
abilities, but they tend to burn out and fade away
mid game. In play testing, I find them to be very
useful as a control deck with Deck Devastation
Virus, Eradicator Epidemic Virus, and Mind Crush.
Ceruli tends to be a very good control card as well.

useless in any other deck.)
Sorry for my absence yesterday! But I'm back and
this time with Ceruli, Guru of Dark World!
First appearing in the Yu-Gi-Oh GX anime under the
control of Brron, Mad King of Dark World. Ceruli has
been a card that players have wanted in the game
ever since. But now that it is here, people aren't
using it, why is that?
Dark World decks these days are a dime a dozen and
there isn't much variation to the "top-tier" builds,
with Ceruli essentially acting as a discard outlet
that requires a discard outlet AND gives your
opponent a monster to work with. Not worth using in
the minds of a lot of people.
However, I don't think it's a complete write-off.
I've seen Dark World variants that utilize Ceruli
that work well (maybe not as consistent or top-tier,
but workable none the less.)
Traditional: 2/5 - A DARK monster that's good for
Chaos fodder, but probably isn't worth it do to the
convoluted nature of the card.
Advanced: 3/5 - In a dedicated Dark World build
only. However, it is probably worth making a more
orthodox DW build instead.
Art: 3/5 - Dark Worlds are awesome. is helmet thing
is weird though.

Today we’re back to new cards
with Celuri, Guru of Dark World!
Today’s card has an effect that
can confuse you if you don’t pay attention. If
discarded by a card effect, Celuri is special
summoned to the opponent’s side of the field. “Why
would it do that?” you say. If special summoned by a
“Dark World” card, your “opponent” must discard 1
card. So you give your opponent a monster to make
them discard? No, you give them a monster to make
you discard. Since Celuri is on the opponent’s
side when the effect activates, the term “your
opponent” refers to the owner. And since Celuri is
making you discard by an opposing card
effect, your Dark World secondary effects kick in if
you discard them.
You could pull off a strong
first turn with Grapha and Celuri. Grapha’s card
destruction and monster theft effects will both
activate. This would remove Celuri (so the opponent
can’t use him), give you information about the
opponent’s hand, steal a monster (take away their
key monster for their combo), and still leave you
with a normal summon to summon Grapha with. You can
also use Gateway to Dark World to revive Celuri to
make your opponent discard (careful not to use this
in a mirror match though). Another benefit that
Celuri has is its level 1 status. This means that
you can use One for One in a pinch if you want. If
there are any Rank 1 monsters in the future that
only needs two Xyz materials, then this card will
have a little more use. For right now, Celuri is
more of a budget duelist’s card. For those unable to
afford Rank 5 Xyz or to afford multiple structure
decks, Celuri provides a useful backup strategy.
Traditional: 1.5/5 (too slow
and combo oriented)
Advanced: 3/5 (decent in Dark World if you want
something new or if you prefer Reign-Beaux)
Art: 4/5 (did’ja know that Celuri was originally
Anime only?)
His effect in a nut shell is if
he is discarded by a card effect (not a cost),
special summon it to your opponent’s side of the
field. Your opponent, now you, MUST discard 1 card.
Pros: You get the effects of
your DW monsters because Ceruli’s effect is now
considered your opponent’s card effect. May your
effects lead you to victory!!!!
Cons: It forces you to run
cards like Reignbeux, Goldd, and Sillva if you were
already weren’t running them. Also, it is a FREE
Tribute/Sycnhro fodder for your opponent.
For those who haven’t noticed,
and there are very few who still don’t know, each
Dark World monster is based off a color. This little
bugger is Cerluli, a spinoff of Cerulean (cape
color). Anyways, this card can be very devastating
with a well timed Goldd/Grapha/Reignbeaux/Sillva.
Just like I mentioned in my cons, this card almost
forces you to run a high number of higher level Dark
Worlds. Having a build revolving around Ceruli can
lead you to have a lot of dead cards in hand if you
have no way of discarding them. The reward doesn’t
seem very high, but the risk just might be worth it.

Advanced: 3/5 (Can potentially
be lethal)

For day 3 of the best COTD week we have
Ceruli, Guru of Dark World
If this card is discarded to the Graveyard by a
card effect: Special Summon this card from the
Graveyard to your opponent's side of the field in
face-up Defense Position. When this card is Special
Summoned by the effect of a "Dark World" card: Your
opponent must discard 1 card.
Here is the love child of the Dark World archtype,
you couldn't ask for a better monster for the deck
well at the top of the list any way. What this
little card will do is get your effect to go off
when he is discarded from the hand, also on a fun
note if you use gateway to dark world to bring him
back, the opponet will have to discard.

The first of the new DW cards is a pretty useful
one. Since DW monsters get their best (or in some
cases only) effects if it is a opponent-controlled
card that causes the the DW monster to be discarded.
If you special summong this with any DW card effect,
such as Gates of Dark World, then you can force the
opponent to discard instead.
But it's when he gets special summoned to the
opponent's field that this guy shines, setting up
your best combos. Also, You can easily steamroll
right over him right away (barring Dark Deal making
him get discarded, of course.)

The middle of the week brings the COTD reviewers
to a card that really could scare your opponent if
they are not paying attention. Ceruli is a LVL 1,
Dark, Fiend with 100 ATK and 300 DEF. Ceruli's
effect is when he's discarded by a card effect to
the grave, special summon Ceruli to your opponent's
side of the field in face up defense position.
Here's where Ceruli can get scary. If he is special
summoned to your opponent's field by the effect of a
Dark World card, Ceruli's discard effect works for
you, so you get to discard a card from your hand.
Like I said before, discard is Dark World's favorite
word. You can get discard Goldd or Sillva, or
whatever Dark World monster you may want to get in
the grave. The down side is your opponent gets a
free monster to use for their own uses assuming they
can protect themselves. If I were running Dark
World, i'd run 1 of Ceruli. A decent effect that can
catch your opponent off guard, but it takes a little
building up to.
