Discounting Maestroke and Queen
Dragun, Pojo proudly presents to you the strongest
and most splashable/utility Djinn.
Granted, not every deck uses
Xyz monsters often or even at all, which does put a
sense of situational-ness on Temtempo. However, Xyz
Summoning is common enough to warrant often and
productive use off Tem.
Temtem is a great disruption
monster. It's not quite the counter-power of the
Evolzars, but Temtem is infinitely easier to summon;
not only that, but Temtem's capability to boost
herself and fellow Djinns an extra 1000 ATK gives
her a niche above the Evolzars as well. Imagine your
opponent has a fully-loaded Zenmaines: a Temtem pair
will instantly reduce Zenmaines' defences to
nothing, and between the two of them, the Temtems
give themselves 1000 more ATK (as well as any other
Djinn Xyz you got). It is notable that when Temtem
gives 500 ATK to all your monsters, this boost is
applicable so long the monster remains faceup,
unlike how temporary Muzumuzu's is. This creates all
sorts of fancy combos with the other Djinns:
Queen Dragun Djinn goes up to
2700 ATK, then 3200 ATK after that.
When paired with Mellow, you
got a 2300 ATK double-attacker and another 1900 ATK.
When paired with Muzu, you got
a 4600 ATK and another 2000 ATK.
Maestroke is the one that
benefits the least, probably, but an extra 500 ATK
doesn't hurt and I suppose it can help him slaughter
large monsters with ~2000 DEF.
Oh yeah, and that ATK boost
makes Temtem's effect applicable in Damage Step.
It's not greatly important, but it's not bad to know
and it will put a strain on your opponent that you
can always conserve Temtem's effect until the very
last second.
And disregarding the ATK boost
entirely, Temtem goes a long way in disabling the
actions of opposing Xyz monsters. For instance, your
opponent summoned Acid Golem (personally a card a I
would never play) last turn. Summon Temtem and steal
one of Golem's materials. During the opponent's Draw
Phase, use Temtem's effect again and completely push
Golem into a very dangeous corner, while having
Temtem instantly reach 2700 ATK. The same strategy
of using Temtem's effect on the opponent's Draw
Phase can be applied to monsters that use three
materials, such as Shock Master.
Due to the recent Konami policy
that effectively puts priority on summoning
(monsters like Judgment Dragon that have an Ignition
Effect can't respond directly to the turn player's
summon anymore), many monsters, including Xyzs, lose
a lot of speed. Temtem herself isn't affected by
this as she has the fortune of being a Quick Effect
monster (usable on the opponent's turn).
Say opponent summons, for example, Wind-Up
Zenmaighty while you have a pair of Temtems out. Due
to these newly released priority rulings, your
opponent used up priority on Zenmaight's summon and
cannot use Zenmaighty's effect in response to its
own summon. You can then send your Temtems in to
utterly devastate Zenmaighty of its Xyz materials
and leave it sitting as a 1500/1500 weakling. Temtem
does suffer some weaknesses however; she can't do
much damage if something such as Dolkka/Laggia is
ALREADY out on the field, and assuming Temtem has
not accumulated any boosts, either of them can run
over her with pure brawn. I've just convinced myself
to splash Temtem into more decks, though, as her
ability to feed the poor ATK of Djinn Xyzs by
indiscriminately messing with the opponent's Xyzs is
powerful yet not too broken.
Traditional: 2/5 (I speculate
most plays involving Xyzs here will already OTK you
before you can make any sort of progress with Tentem)
Advanced: 4/5 (IMO the Djinn
Deck's key player, given her disruption ability and
capability to make herself and her teammates potent
attacking threats...definitely better than
Giga-Brilliant in at least the Djinn Deck)
Aesthetics: 5/5 Reminds me of a
mix between clowns, Mexican sombreros, and Aelita
from
Code Lyoko.
Multicultural monster FTW. The background of all
Djinn monsters also go very nicely with their Super
Rarity. It does seem slightly silly that music
monsters are not Synchro monsters, but what're you
gonna do?
Philosophy Corner: "I have not
failed; I have found 10,000 ways that don't work."
