Marshmallon, my favorite cute little gelatin in the Yugioh realm =) There use to be quite a debate when Marshmallon became accessible to the public as to this versus Spirit Reaper, burn versus Hand discard. Marshmallon is still arguably as good as he ever was, its just as happens to cards, the Format isn't very favorable to him. When Formats decide to go all turbo aggressive, cards that need to be set to gain their effect fall out of play. That's why we can currently use two copies, but if you can use two, and both go off for 1000 points of Damage, that's a quarter of your opponent's Lifepoints, just saying. Level 3 is good, not being able to be destroyed in Battle is too, could make easier for a Rank 3 XYZ. Light and Fairy both have plenty of support, I seriously think about everyone should use at least one. Even if setting Monsters isn't in play at present, 1000 damage can end up being more than you think. How fun is it to attack into this and lose the Duel?

Ratings:

Traditional: 3.75/5 Burn can work even just in this card, and even with more destruction, it pays off IF you get the effect to work.

Advanced: 4.75/5

Art: 5/5 So cute

Marshmallon is one of those really cool cards that give you several options and benefits. First it deals 1000 damage to your opponent. Second, it can’t be destroyed by battle. Third, it is a level 3 monster that loves to be turned into an XYZ monster or Synchro monster. Forth, it is a light monster so it can be used in a Chaos deck, and finally, it is a Fairy, so it can be used in a Fairy or Herald deck. Yes, Marshmallon has a lot going for it.

So why is a card this good not being played in multiples in today’s deck? Quit simply, it is just too slow. Today’s game is all about the offence. Strike quickly and often. Outside of a burn deck, we will probably not see this card being played, especially when we have Wind-Ups gaining hand advantage by turn two and Dino/Rabbit’s negating all of your moves. Being able to stop your opponent’s on slot is pretty good in this format. Marshmallon can be easily search for with Sangan, Nova Summoner, and Shining Angel.

Marshmallon is hands down my favorite monster to set face down. While your opponent may be expecting something like Gravekeeper's Spy, Ryko, or even Wind-Up Honeybee....they run smack into a monster that can't be destroyed by battle AND they are taking a solid 1000 LPs worth of damage as well. But you still take damage if Marshmallon is attacked by a monster that has a piercing ability, such as Spear Dragon, or worse, a monster that can destroy face downs without flipping it face up, like Six Samurai - Irou. Also Nobleman of Crossout and Shield Crush are a few other ways around it as well. Marshmellon is great for stalling with a bit of burn behind it, making it great for Synchroing, Xyz or even tributing. This card can stops swarms and nail your opponent for a chunk of damage for attacking it. While it may work best in stall/burn, overall this card can slip in almost any deck that relies on Xyz and synchros.

Now up to 2 per deck, Marshy makes for one of the best walls out there. With his low stats, he can duck under cards such as Smashing Ground as long as there's another monster with at least 550 DEF on your side of the field. Once he's face up, however, he makes for a good target for monsters with piercing damage effects, so his best uses are as a stall tactic and tribute fodder.

As for the pic, I'll admit that it's one of the more subtly weird monster images out there.

Ok, Blue-Eyes, thank you for stopping by for your 3rd review here at Pojo now. For the past two weeks, you've met with us reviewing recently-released GX manga cards. Now that you've had a month to formulate your own opinions, why don't you take a gander at the Pojo team's review of new semi-limited list?

I got my Mashumaron cheap from the Lost Sanctuary structure deck. This, I appreciate, but I cannot condone using Mallow in an offensive deck, even for Fairies. Marshie is distinct from Spirit Reaper, as, despite Marshmallie's higher stats and burn damage, as well as vulnerability to Ally of Justice Catastor, only a defensive deck can truly appreciate Ma-Ma's 1000 damage. For an offensive playstyle, Spirit Reaper can usually find itself a clear path to nick a card from the opponent. Offensive decks also aren't as scared to take LP damage to summon a Spirit Reaper when neither player has any active monsters. Furthermore, Spirit Reaper finds itself being easily summoned in the fast-paced offensive Zombie Deck. Still, I think Mallon finds more popularity than Reaper as Mallie is a great defensive option whilst Reaper is only a passable offensive option. Yet, both are smashing in a given stall deck. That's just my general consensus of both monsters.

Similar monsters are Shiba-Warrior Taro and Arcana Force 0 - The Fool. Shiba has the highest stats but has an effect that hurts it more often than not; most importantly of all, however, it has Tuning capability. Fool, outside some sadistic Creature Swapping, is vastly inferior to Mallos and Reaper, but is worth using if those two are already maxed out, and can also Xyz Summon Mira the Giant Star or Galaxy Queen.

I wouldn't use Marsh in an offensively-oriented deck, not even a Fairy one. In any stall-based deck (especially Burn), it is invaluable, though. Other uses besides plain stalling and 1000 damage include material for Xyz, Synchro, or Tributing. I have used Marshmallon for all of these purposes, and even by itself, it can wall entire decks to a great extent given the right backup.

Traditional: 1/5 (what we need is immunity to effect destruction, not battle immunity)

Advanced: 3.8/5

Comparison to last format: Relatively insignificant impact. It has gotten much easier to slaughter monsters, so Marshmallon's immortality isn't as significant as it was compared to its first release, so we might as well Semi it for its reasonably strong effect. We might even see Marshmallon get Unlimited sometime soonish. My preferred Deck is Final Countdown stall. I use 1 Fool, 1 Shiba, 2 Mallons and 3 Reapers; they are fantastic roadblocks most of the time and make for fantastic Synchro or Xyz Material.

Aesthetics: 4/5 A gelatanous, indestructible snack food being the antithesis of Spirit Reaper. Touche. One of Yugi's cards, it is quite the adorable and iconic image.

Philosophy Corner: I realized I missed out on reviewing Wicked Avatar two weeks back. If it's of any interest to you, I got back to that guy.
