Today we look at another card impacted by the recent Konami rule change, it's an oldie and one that has always been a staple in my decks, Bottomless Trap Hole. It's a simple trap card, activate when a monster(s) is summoned in any way, that has 1500 ATK or more, destroy and banish the monster(s). So many monsters have fallen down this hole. Mine, yours, your friends, my friends, why? Because BTH is a widely used card. With the change in ruling, this card has gone back to being the pure staple it once was. BTH can now do a lot more than just destroy and banish your opponent's bigger monsters, now with the ruling change, your opponent won't get their monster effects. This card was always great that now has gotten even better,

Wednesday:

Bottomless Trap Hole
Normal Trap
"Activate only when your opponent Summons a monster(s) with 1500 or more ATK. Destroy and remove from play the monster(s)."

One of the best staple cards around. I'm sad to see that it has remained semi-limited to 2 per deck as there's some real nightmares around, such as Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and Archlord Krista and this card would definately help against them if it was unrestricted. While the monster must have at least 1500A, that only means that this card works against the opponent's stronger monsters, it can shut down so many things that this card has well earned it's spot as a true staple card of most decks. One great thing is that it works on Normal AND Special Summons. The only drawback to it is that it can be destroyed by card effects before it can be used, such as the fully unrestricted Mystical Space Typhoon, which can kill it before they summon a monster. Other then that, it's a great card and well worth using in virtually any deck.

This...has gotten...so much better... (Veiler’s gotten better too. I’ve been having computer problems but I found one of my rough drafts for Veiler’s review stored on a backup file. BTH’s overall review is a lower score on the assumption you can destroy the opponent’s monster without BTH by itself.)
I've mentioned many times before that Torrential Tribute, BTH, and Solemn Warning were all on par in power in their own sense. One of Warning's biggest selling points was the ability to negate the summon, which in turn meant that monster wasn't able to use priority on its effect. I think BTH and TT may find themselves being limited very soon, due to Konami's recent ruling on monster priority. In the past, say a Trigger Effect monster was summoned, such as Black Luster Soldier, Judgment Dragon, or Levair the Sea Dragon. Due to priority, your opponent had the right to activate the effect before you could do anything. You could chain BTH to the effect, but since those monsters usually don't need to still be alive at effect resolution, the effect still goes through. That is no longer the case, as Konami has officially ruled that Spell Speed 1 effects cannot be used in response to summons anymore, and now Hellish Trap Hole can murder those monsters with cold sadism. One more thing, although it rarely happens, this card CAN destroy multiple monsters. This is indirectly important, as this way, it can get around that obscure monster once in a while that is shielded from targeting effects. (Oh, so I see you summoned Obelisk the Tormentor. I can also see how he fell down my Hole.)

When you have an offensive juggernaut prepared and your opponent is threatening you with some facedown cards, the NUMBER ONE thing you think is "I really hope one of those isn't a Bottomless Trap Hole." BTH is an extremely powerful defensive card, being able to ruthlessly slaughter almost any monster the opponent plays right when it comes out. Now that most of those monsters aren't even allowed to play their effects anymore, it has become all that much harder to buffer the setback BTH brings. Even discounting the LP costs, this brings it up a much higher power than compared to Solemn Warning, as with BTH your opponent cannot even use Monster Reborn or Call of the Haunted on said monster. Do keep in mind, however, that BTH cannot destroy monsters summoned mid-chain.
There's a reason why this card is relatively expensive even as a structure deck Common.

Traditional: 3.5/5 (one does not simply blow up the world with a newly summoned CED as easily anymore)
Advanced: 4/5 (what may appear as a simple 1-for-1 trade actually means saving yourself from an entire sweep, protecting one of your monsters, wasting your opponent's Normal Summon, wasting an opponent's key monster, leaving the opponent open for a direct attack or killing any hopes of them winning...)
Aesthetics: 4/5 Wheeeeee... There needs to be more support for Trap Hole cards.

Philosophy Corner: RIP Osama Bin Laden and everyone else that was killed in that day

I'm not saying that he was a good guy, but the dude got shot to death. It would just be plain rude to tell him to rot in hell; so that's why I'm telling him to rest in peace.
I don't care how many evil deeds he has done; I don't cheer to hear that a man has been assassinated. I can only pray for him and say "farewell forever." People don't deserve to die.
Laden was not the only casualty of Operation Neptune Spear; half the deaths were civilian. I don't condone violence, although I know that bin Laden himself was a violent man. In the end, I feel sorry for this man that had to go through a violent life and had to have that life end via violent means.
