We are going to be looking at a card that is very popular in today’s Meta. Forbidden Lance has two effects that make it worthy of being in most of the decks in play today. First, it protects a monster against other spells and traps like Bottomless Trap Hole, Dark Hole, Mirror Force, and Dimensional Prison. The 800 life points can be a small price to pay when you are running strong Xyz, Synchro, and Effect monsters like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Judgment Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, Acid Golem, Scrap Dragon, and Elemental Hero the Shining.

If that were not good enough, the second effect of losing 800 attack works great against your opponents monster. It gives your weaker monsters the ability to attack over your opponent’s stronger monster. In a deck like Dino Rabbit, this is important as they play weak vanilla monsters and Dolkka and Laggia are also weak compared to many of the boss monsters in the game. With the new Fast Effect Timing rule in effect, Forbidden Lance also protects our monsters with 1000 or less attack from Chain Disappearance. Rescue Rabbit, Tour Guide, and some Wind-Ups and Inzektor monsters will survive this dreaded game changing card.

If anything, Forbidden Lance is more important than ever, and is close to being a staple card in most decks.

Today's card is one that was hit and miss for a while. Some used it, some didn't A few swore by it, others turned it away. This quick play spell allows pick a monster on the field, it loses 800 ATK but it is unaffected by other spells and traps until the end phase. It's no Bottomless Trap Hole or Effect Veiler, but it has uses. Having your opponent's biggest monster lose 800 ATK could be the differance of overpowering it to survive the turn, or losing. You can use it on the defense as well. Use it on one of your monsters to have it survive something like Bottomless Trap Hole, Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, Dimensional Prison or others of their ilk, Yea your monster loses 800, but you get to keep it. Not as popular as the other cards we're reviewing this week, but a handy one still.

Forbidden Lance
Quickplay Spell
"Select 1 face-up monster on the field. Until the End Phase, it loses 800 ATK but is unaffected by the effects of other Spell/Trap Cards."

Forbidden Lance is a rather interesting card in that it protects while it weakens. This can be a good thing as you can use it to counter cards like Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute and Bottomless Trap Hole, as well as Book of Moon, Shrink and other nasty defensive cards, not to mention offensive ones such as Smashing Ground and Mind Control.

Not only does it defend you, but you can use it offensively to weaken an opponent's strong monster before attacking and they won't be able to save it with cards like Interdimensional Matter Transporter. I've not seen this card used, but it can be an interesting card to splash into any deck, especially what with it beging available as a common in the upcoming Epic Dawn Battle Pack.

Philosophical
Psycho
Unlike all the other cards this week, which have improved with the new Fast Effect rulings (except for Maestroke, which has somewhat suffered), Lance itself has not exactly grown stronger; instead, it has become more important because it can DEFEND properly against all the other buffed cards. From now on, I will address the new Quick Effect mechanic as if it had always been in effect and I will stop referring to how it was different.

Unfortunately, due to some technical difficulties, the essays I had for almost all of this week’s cards were deleted, and I cannot afford the time to rewrite all of them (and even if I do, I might miss a few key points). Just take my word for it that Veiler and BTH have greatly increased in power now that they can pseudo-negate effects. Lance itself has increased in importance due to the fact it can save a monster from BTH, Torrential Tribute, Book of Moon, etc. All of the cards this week are old cards that were already common splashables, and we’re relooking them simply due to how they have changed given the Fast Effect ruling. Therefore, I don’t think I need to bother wasting your time glamourizing how versatile Lance is in blocking destruction effects on your own monsters, blocking support effects on your opponent’s monsters, and the obscure usefulness of the 800 ATK drop.

Traditional: 3/5
Advanced: 4.35/5 (dem quickplay spellz and their versatility)
Aesthetics: 5/5 The slight Greek-religious references are pretty cool. The innocent look on this girl's face is also very endearing. I think she represents Pandora from Greek mythology. I would love to see her on more cards’ art, but I say this way too much anyway.
Philosophy Corner: The path less traveled is less traveled upon for a reason.
