Steelswarm Sting could be a fun little tech card,
and a welcome addition to Steelswarm Decks. The
Japanese list has Future Fusion banned (which we'll
cover soon enough once the English Ban List is
released) but this is still a decent card I think.
Level 4, Dark, Fiend (not Insect for whatever
reason) so it is well supported, and has 1850
attack, which is great, although the 0 defense could
be troublesome. When you control this card, and
it's sent to the Graveyard (simple enough, no
regulation or stipulation as to how), Target (note
Target) a face-up Ritual or Fusion Monster and on
the Field and destroy it. The attack is good for
Level 4, and granted you aren't always going to get
the effect to go off, so that might hurt it, being
the only effect. Still might have a place as Tech
though.

Steelswarm Sting has a pretty nice sting for the
current Meta. It has the ability to destroy any
Ritual, Fusion, or Synchro Monster, which is awesome
against many decks that are or will be top tier. All
you need to do is smash into the above monsters or
set it and let your opponent run it over and you
have instant monster destruction. Unfortunately it
does nothing against Xyz monsters which are all the
rage right now.
Steelswarm Sting works well in the tribute happy
Steelswarm decks as well sense the effect activates
when it is tributed as it has a mandatory effect.
With 1850 in attack (I hate attacks with a 50 in
them); Sting can be a decent beat down monster. I
see Steelswarm Sting as a side deck card. Steelswarm
decks really never made a splash in Yu-Gi-Oh, but
Sting may find a spot in the side deck as Gishki,
Gem-Knight, Gusto, Vylon, and Elemental HERO decks.

Steelswarm Sting is one of those cards that could
have been more useful if it was released a year or
two ago. A level 4 DARK/Fiend (How is this metal bee
a fiend?) with 1850 ATK and 0 DEF. When this card
you control is sent to the graveyard, target 1
Synchro, Ritual or Fusion monster on the field, and
destroy it. Granted, its effect has to go off, so
you can use Sting for anything like a tribute or
synchro summon. Its effect is pretty good...some
time ago. We all know that Xyz summoning is the big
thing right now and Sting doesn't aim at Xyz
monsters. You might see the occasional Stardust
Dragon or Formula Synchron, but that's it. Rituals,
nowhere to be seen these days and Fusions come in
the HERO flavors these days, so there might be some
where in the side deck against them. Dragons lose
Future Fusion come Sept., but hardcore Dragon fans
will still find a way to get out 5 Headed Dragon,
regardless. Other than those two, I can't see
Steelswarm Sting anywhere but a possible side deck
option against those two. Also, ATK values a with 50
at the end always throw me off for some reason.
Anyways, Sting may have limited uses in today's
format, it was more useful some time ago.

CALLING ALL SPIDER RIDEEEEEEEERS
Aside from a few Evilswarm monsters (who are
supposed to be merely supplements to the Steelswarm
Deck), Inverz Sharp is the strongest Steelswarm
monster that does not have to be Tribute Summoned,
at 1850 ATK. The Steelswarms have a rather healthy
amount of support. Steelswarm Caller and Corrosive
Contagion Infestation can search out Sting easily.
Summoner Monk is also a possible route with Swarms.
When Sting goes from the field to the Grave, it
leaves you with a parting gift: You are required to
remove a Ritual, Fusion, or Synchro from the field,
giving you the upper hand if you just happen to be
facing Gishkis, Gem-Knights, or Gustos/Lavals (of
course, Synchros would be the most common).
Something that you should know is that the
Steelswarm Deck is based upon the concept of Tribute
Summoning (very similar to a Monarch Deck). SSS'
effect reflects this as it is designed to work not
only if it gets destroyed, but if tributed for a
Tribute Summon. It is hard for this effect to
backfire, as Swarms will never ever use Rituals or
Fusions and they will very rarely incorporate
Tuners. Swarms like to focus their power with Xyzs
and Tribute Monsters, so you can see how Sting is a
trooper by upkeeping the integrity of the archetype
by exhibiting hate against high-Level Special
Summoned monsters. I think a bigger worry, however,
is the general unliklihood that you would happen to
send Sting to the Grave when your opponent just
HAPPENS to have out a Synchro Monster (or, even more
unlikely, a Ritual or Fusion).
If this weren't a Steelswarm monster, it would drop
down to almost 1/5 for its seemingly impractibility
and because something like Smashing Ground would be
a lot more effective. Sting is only acceptable in
the Steelswarm Deck due to how Swarm support cards
can guarantee exploiting Sting's effect to its best
ability.
Trad: 2/5 (I really don't think Swarms can work
here...although Sting is ok)
Adv: 3/5 (not ultra powerful, but still cool)
Aesthetics: 3.6/5 It looks like a Beedrill. Well,
maybe except that the wing-body ratio is not
realistic...at all. Another rather funny, noticable
thing is that if you line up all the Steelswarms
from weakest to strongest, it sorta looks like
they're growing from youngest to oldest in a beetle
lifecycle.
Philosophy Corner: Just as much as the best things
in life are unexpected, both in how surprises are a
blessing and how you rarely expect good things TO
happen to you, bad things as well can swerve around
the corner unexpectedly to smack you in the
face, just like the swift slice of the Steelswarm
Sting. If I were to die suddenly, I hope I would be
famous enough to make it on the news. At least that
way, you would understand that I wouldn't have quit
the Pojo Team on my own decision.
