Welcome to another week of various Abyss Rising
goodies! We're nearing Christmas, and the end of
the year, and faithful followers should know that
means a Top Cards of the Year List! That will start
next week and take us through and to 2013! There's
no theme per say this week, although we did end up
with three Mermail cards, beginning with Mermail
Abyssmegalo. This is a goon, at least in
appearance. We have a Level 7, Water attributed,
Sea-Serpent with 2400 attack and 1900 defense.
Level 7 obviously requires two Tributes, A
Legendary Ocean would make this a Level 6 Monster
with 2600 attack, which is better. That point
becomes fairly moot, because if you Tribute, you
don't get it's effect.
As for said effect, you can Special Summon this card
(from your Hand) by discarding two other Water
Monsters from your Hand to the Graveyard. I'm
assuming since (minus ALO) it would require two
Tributes, they put two discards. Sure, it would
still be a Level 6 in your Hand (via ALO) but you
still have to discard the TWO Monsters, via its own
effect to get the rest of this going. If you are
successful in Special Summoning Abyssmegalo via its
effect, you can add an "Abyss" Magic or Trap card
from your Deck to your Hand.
Certainly a useful and good effect there, but
there's more. You can tribute a face-up attack
position Water Monster for this card to attack a
second time during this Battle Phase. I don't
believe, as this seems relevant, that it has to
attack twice in a row. If you successfully activate
this effect, you can attack twice, I suppose in any
order you choose (at least until I'm told
otherwise). It's still a Special Summon that gets
you a card from your Deck, and can attack twice.

Apparently, if you want to build one of the best
decks in the game, you are going to have to spend
some money, pull amazing, or make great trades,
because most of the cards you need to build Mermail
decks are ether Secrets or Ultras. We will be
looking at some of the key cards that you will need
from Abyss Rising to make the new Mermail/Atlantean
deck.
First up on our list is the Secret Rare Mermail
Abyssmegalo. Abyssmegalo is the perfect match for
the Atlanteans. By discarding 2 Atlanteans to the
graveyard, you can summon Mermail Abyssmegalo, get
both of your Atlantean effects, and then get an
Abyss Spell or Trap card from your deck. That card
is usually Abyss-Sphere. With Abyss-Sphere, you can
get Mermail Abysslinde and then get Mermail
Abysspike for more shenanigans.
Abyss-Sphere is not the only Abyss card that you can
search for, even though it is the card of choice.
You could also search for Abyss-scorn, squall, strom,
scale or the Cetus, and scale of the Kraken to do
things like negate traps and effect monsters and for
more special summoning.
Mermail Abyssmegalo’s greatest benefit is in its
discard effect and not in its summoning. The
summoning is just icing on the cake. As good as the
Atlanteans are, their biggest issue is that they
need to be discarded by a Water monster to get their
effects. Mermails fulfill that need and Abyssmegalo
does that at a supercharged rate. While doing all of
the things above, Mermail Abyssmegalo loads the
graveyard with Water monsters making way for the
special summoning of another secret rare card that
we need in our deck called Moulinglacia the
Elemental Lord.

A new week starts us off with a very hot and hard
to get card for the Mermails, Abyssmegalo. You can
use this card card's discard effect to not only get
a pretty big monster on the field, but it works well
for getting the "I was discarded" effects that some
of the Atlantean monsters gets, such as Heavy
Infantry and Marksman. You can also use Salvage to
get back whatever two monsters you used to get
Abyssmeglo on the field. Need to get it to your
hand? Use one of my favorite cards, Slushy to grab
it. Another added bounus for special summoning this
card through its effect is getting a Spell/Trap card
with Abyss in its name. That is handy, but it let's
your opponent know what you are up to. It's final
effect lets you tribute a face up attack position
WATER monster you control so this card can attack
twice. For a 2400 ATK monster, that isin't bad, but
you are giving up field control to hopefully not run
smack into something like Dimensional Prison or
Mirror Force. But I can see why this card is a must
for the Abyss/Mermail deck. If you have this card,
you are either using it, or selling it on Ebay.
