In the ever growing army of Gagaga Monsters, we look at certainly an interesting one, in an XYZ Monster, Gagaga Cowboy.  Gagaga Cowboy is a Rank 4, Warrior type XYZ Monster, XYZ Summoned by two Level 4 Monsters, with 1500 attack and 2400 defense.  So, are we going to go Gaga over this Gagaga?  Well, by discarding an XYZ Material, you gain the following effect based on the Cowboy's Battle Position.  The effect of your choice can be activated only once per turn:

If in attack position, when Cowboy goes to attack an opponent's Monster, Cowboy gains 1000 attack and the opponent's Monster loses 500 attack, only during the Damage Step.

if in defense position, inflict 800 Damage to your opponent.

So let's recap here.  The first effect isn't bad, but you can't use it if your opponent attacks Gagaga Cowboy.  You have to do the attacking.  The burn is nice, and you want Cowboy in Defense position, but 800 is negligible for discarding an XYZ.  I'm not even sure I'd use this guy in a Gagaga Deck, and don't use it just because you see Yuma do it on tv.  He's even worse than Jaden was, seriously.

Gagaga Cowboy can work in just about any side deck as it takes two generic level four monsters. What it gives you is basically a 3000 attack monster that can do effect damage depending on the battle position of your opponents monster. Unfortunately, these effects only work when you attack. If your opponent is attacking, then you have a week 1500 attack monster with 2400 defense.

Gagaga Cowboy is essentially your beet stick Rank 4 monster to get over your opponent’s strong monster, in much the same way as Acid Golem is for Rank 3 monsters. The nice thing about the Cowboy is that is has a second effect that can burn your opponent for 800 life points. If your opponent is trying to stall by playing defense monsters and is down to 800 or less life points, the Cowboy can end the game for you. It does not even have to destroy the monster. Plying cards like Enemy Controller and Book of Moon will also help your cause. If you are on game three in time and you need to inflict damage to win the match, this guy will do the job for you.

Gagaga Cowboy gives you another tool in a never ending tool bag of Extra deck cards. Most people are finding a home and making room for this card in their Extra deck.

I hope The Almighty Pojo puts this up at 12/12/12 at 12:12:12 today....just saying. Gagaga Cowboy is one of those cards that you look and you want it to do more than what it does. A Rank 4 Xyz monster, needing any 2 level 4 monsters to Xyz summon. With 1500 ATK and an eyebrow raising 2400 DEF as it's base stats, it can fend off a lot while in defense position. There more than a dozen ways to get Gagaga Cowboy out the field so im not getting into cards like Rescue Rabbit, Double Summon, or the Gagaga Duo, or that decks like Six Samurai or even Stall/Burn can benefit a little from this card, so im not. When Cowboy is in attack position, you can detach an Xyz material and when this card attacks an opponent's monster, Cowboy gains 1000 ATK while the monster it is attacking loses 500 ATK during the damage step only. At times that could make all the difference between a win or a loss. And with 1500 ATK, it could use a bit more help, so something like Heroic Champion - Extra Sword could give you the extra ATK power you need, even before raising it another 1000 ATK. And while in Defense position, you can detach an Xyz material to burn your opponent for 800 damage. Not bad, but I would have had it do something like your opponent's monsters has to attack Gagaga Cowboy instead of your other monsters. Then this card would have gotten a higher score from me. But overall, Gagaga Cowboy is one of those cards you either use or don't use. I say try it out in casual/fun duels, see how it works and then maybe it could find a spot in your extra deck on a full time basis.
