Number 20: Giga-Brilliant, is a Rank 3 XYZ Monster,
XYZ Summoned with two Level 3 Monsters. This is a
Light attributed Insect, who grants ALL Monsters you
control 300 attack, by (once per turn) discarding an
XYZ Material. It's interesting, and I believe a
good thing, that the effect works for all your
face-up Monsters, instead of just itself. So
Giga-Brilliant could potentially be 2400 attack if
successfully able to use its own effect twice, and
that would be 600 attack for your other face-up
Monsters too. Obviously assuming they were on the
Field for both turns. I really like this card
(being an Insect) in an Insect Deck, but I'm not
sure you should play it elsewhere. Maybe if the
increase were 500 points or even higher, you might
consider it. But like yesterday, something must be
said for the ease of summoning a Rank 3 XYZ.

Number 20: Giga-Brilliant is seeing play in a lot
of Extra Decks these days. The main reason this card
is making the Extra Deck is because of the ease of
summing with Tour Guide and the ability of most of
the top tier decks to load the field with monsters.
For every monster you have on the field, that is an
extra 300 attack per monster including
Giga-Brilliant.
Let’s run a simple scenario with BLS and
Giga-Brilliant. With just these two monsters on the
field, that equates to an extra 900 life point. Of
course Acid Golem gives you the same thing, but the
more monsters you have on the field, the more damage
you can do. If they survive, you can pump your
monsters up again for an additional 300 attack
points per monster.
Number 20: Giga-Brilliant can also give your weaker
monsters enough attack boost to help them survive
battle. In our scenario above, if you wanted to
attack over our opponent’s Acid Golem, you would go
with Giga-Brilliant so your BLS could attack over it
for some huge damage.

Giga-Brilliant is one of those cards that seemed
like it could have done a bit more. A LIGHT/Insect
Rank 3 Xyz, with 1800 for both ATK and DEF. Giga's
effect is once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz
material from this card to have all monster you
currently control gain 300 ATK. That's it...that's
all he does. It's not that bad, but I felt this card
should have did something else. Like some kind of
ability to safe itself, like all monsters also once
per turn cannot be destroyed by card effects, or
battle or something. The good part is that the ATK
increase is permanent. Being a LIGHT monster helps a
lot, with Honest and all that other good stuff.
Insects have a few good tricks as well. I'm all for
ATK boosting, but I think there should be more than
just that for this card.

GB is an interesting monster. Not the best Stats
for a Rk. 3, but that's a trade off for a +300A
boost for ALL of your monsters that is permanent so
long as this guy remains in play. 300ATK may not
seem like the best, but sometimes it's that little
bit extra that helps you climb overtop of the
opponent's Monsters, so this guy can have his uses.
Still, I think that Leviathan Dragon is a slightly
better card as his effect gives a bigger boost even
if it's only to himself, allowing the rest of your
monsters to attack directly under the right
conditions. GB gives a weaker boost across the
board, but that may or may not be enough. It all
comes down to personal preference, I suppose, and
while GB is weaker, he doesn't have Leviathan's
downside of not being able to attack directly. GB
works good as a support card for strong monsters,
making them stronger, while LD keeps his power to
himself and says "clean up after me". In the end,
the choice is yours.

For July 19th we are looking at Number 20. The
dates and Numbers just didn't add up this week, did
they?
Um...no pun was intended in that last sentence.
Anyway...
Like Leviathan Dragon, Giga-Brilliant is an
easy-to-make Rank 3 monster and ought to be worth
the Level 3 monsters used to summon it. After using
the effect twice, Brilliant will be at 2400 ATK;
that's less than a single boost of Leviathan Dragon!
Of course, you don't use Brilliant by itself; you
boost every monster on your field! Just having
another monster out on your field means your net ATK
boost is greater than that of Leviathan Dragon's 500
(although when you factor in how Brilliant has less
Original ATK than Leviathan Dragon, the net damage
is still lower). I like using Brilliant with Dark
Scorpions in order to give my frail Level 3 monsters
more fighting power.
Other decks that have an abundance of Level 3's,
like Inzektors, may also appreciate Brilliant;
however, more often than not, they would rather use
Leviathan Dragon for a solid attacker or Number 30
for its pure power. When you're up against a field
full of monsters, however, an enemy Xyz capable of
pumping each one 600 ATK is not to be
underestimated.
Trad: 3/5 (not a common play, but as I alluded in
yesterday's review, Magical Scientist, six Level 3
Fusions, three Giga-Brilliants, and 6000 LP to spare
can deal enough damage for OTK...and it's a Light
monster)

Aesthetics: 3/5 As Number 10 is the first Xyz Kite
Tenjo summoned, Number 20 is the second, which is
the only real correlation I see with its Number.
Like Illumiknight before it, however, the Brilliant
Ant has a punny name (the longer Japanese name
extends it further by adding Gigantic Ant). It seems
to me, however, to look like a cross between a
mosquito and a red ant.
