Hieratic Dragon of Sutfkh, slightly different from
yesterday, as this Light attributed Dragon is Level
8 (as opposed to 7) with 2800 attack (as opposed to
2600) and a much more solid defense of 2000 (versus
the 700 of yesterday.) This card as opposed to
tributing two Monsters can also be Special Summoned.
Although not Normal Summoned or Set, and must first
be Special Summoned by removing three Dragon-type
Normal Monsters from your Graveyard. So this
requires an additional Monster as opposed to
yesterday, and they ALL must be Normal Dragons. As
for what Sutfkh can do, once a turn, you can remove
a Dragon from your Graveyard to target and destroy
one card on the Field. This is a nice mechanic for
the Deck, while the Special Summon seems to be a bit
overkill, the nice attack really helps. Being Level
8 is key (as opposed to yesterday being Level 7). A
key piece of the Hieratic Deck for sure.

Unless you are playing a heap of normal monsters
in your Hieratic deck, Hieratic Dragon of Sutekh is
going to be more of a detriment than a help. Sutekh
needs to have 3 normal dragons in the graveyard to
even summon it and then you have to banish them.
Unfortunately Hieratic decks like these monsters in
the graveyard or the deck, so banishing them is not
a good thing.
Hieratic Dragon of Sutekh has a few good things
going for it. First it has 2800 attack points.
Second, it is a level 8 making it possible to
special summon some of those powerful Xyz monsters.
And finally it can destroy any card on the field.
Sutekh has its good and bad points. It does not fit
the Hieratic theme in many ways because it banishes
monster we want to keep and does not have anything
to do with tributing. You can’t even tribute
monsters to normal summon it.

We look at another Hieratic Dragon today....yeah,
another one. This one is Sutekh. This guy is pretty
big, as a level 8 Light/Dragon Type, and weighing in
at 2800 ATK and 2000 DEF. First things first, Sutekh
cannot be normal summoned or set. He must be first
special summoned from the hand by banishing 3 Normal
Dragon-Types from your graveyard. Also, once per
turn you can banish one Dragon-Type from your
graveyard to target one card on the field, destroy
that target. In other words, you wanna use effects
like Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon or Monster
Reborn? You have to meet his
summoning requirements first. In a Hieratic deck,
that can be done. Once you do, you can special
summon Sutekh anyway you can. His once per turn
destruction effect can be useful, but most players
may run to Dark Armed Dragon, as its effect can be
used more then once per turn. Overall, this card
needs some setting up to get it out and used to its
full potential, it can be very useful at times.
Sorry I was off yesterday folks, but I'm
currently setting up to move into a new place with
my partner at the beginning of next month, so I'll
be away the last weekend of June and the first week
of July. I've posted a belated review of Monday's
card as well, so feel free to check it out.
Admittedly, I'm a bit biased towards this deck as
any deck with lots of search power is always good
and Hieratic Dragons are all about XYZ summoning, so
a well made Extra deck is important. I also
appologize for the misspelling of the name Hieratic
last week. :P

Sutekh has a powerful ability which is sadly
limited to once per turn, so he's definately not
Dark Armed Dragon, but can work well in the deck due
to you wanting several Normal Dragons as well as
other Hieratic Dragons. He serves as a powerful form
of muscle for an HD deck, but should only be at 1 or
2 in the deck due to his strict summoning
requirements. On the plus side, though... He can
also be splashed into a Blue-Eyes deck if you have a
few other Normal Dragons in the deck.

Ok, one thing to note, the word "Hieratic" is not
even in this card's text at all, and its effect
doesn't even have anything related to Tributing. So
how is this guy part of the Hieratic family?
I mean, I guess Sutekh has the word "Hieratic" in
its name. That gives it relatively meager benefits.
If you're having problems summoning it, you can
always use it to pay the cost of Su or Nebthet. You
can also search it out with Hieratic Seal of
Convocation. There are other benefits, but they
mostly revolve around Tributing Sutekh while its on
the field, but I don't know WHY you'd REALLY want to
do that, especially since Sutekh won't give you a
free Normal Dragon.
So Sutekh is a lot like Dark Armed Dragon. Unlike
DAD, Sutekh doesn't require you to have EXACTLY
three Normal Dragons in your Grave, but I still
concede that having EXACTLY three Dark monsters in
your Grave is easier than having at least three
Normal Dragons.
You see, the problem there is not filling up the
Grave (can be very easily done with Dragon Ravine or
Future Fusion or general Hieratic speed). However,
if you really think about it, very few Decks run a
large influx of Normal Dragons (only very certain
builds of Hieratic).
Here, think about it:
Blue-Eyes: Only run a total of three Normal Dragons.
Red-Eyes: Will never run more than three Normal
Dragons.
Chaos Dragons: Alexandrite Dragon, if at all
Hieratic: well, this gets tricky...
The most common Hieratic builds have Wattaildragon
as the sole Normal Dragon in the deck. Some may run
Luster Dragon #2 for backup or maybe
different-leveled Dragons just to make fancy Xyzs,
but Wattaildragon is the most popular, because it
has the highest ATK out of any Level 6 Dragon (and
also because it is Light). So you see, most of the
time, they won't even need to bother with running
Sutekh.
HOWEVER, certain Hieratic builds may choose to
dabble in Level 8 Normal Dragons, or at times the
Level 1 Normal Tuner Flamvell Guard. My point is,
most Hieratics wouldn't, but if you do happen to run
a significant amount of Hieratics, use Sutekh.
Another bonus is that, when paying for Sutekh's
cost, ANY Dragon can be used, not just Normals.
One more thing: the Continuous Trap Hieratic Seal
From the Ashes was designed for Sutekh. It acts
simultaneously as a Dragon Ravine and a Burial from
the Different Dimension, ensuring Sutekh can
constantly use its effect without fear of depleting
its ammo. Also, when this Trap is destroyed, it
transforms into a Call of the Haunted. This Trap +
Sutekh can become dangerous if left unchecked, for
if you finally destroy my Sutekh and put a stop to
its raging, I can use Heavy Storm and Ashes will
reborn Sutekh just the same. Or if you manage to use
Black Rose Dragon, Ashes conserves my Sutekh (which
is thankfully only Semi-Nomi) just the same. I still
maintain my original quota, however, that Hieratics
much rather prefer to explode as quickly as they
can, rather than rely on the summoning conditions of
Sutekh.

Aesthetics: 1.6/5 This is completely illogical.
Hieratic Dragon King of Atum would, I suppose, be
the strongest Hieratic, not counting Sutekh or that
Rank 8 Xyz (who is not based on any specific god but
represents the entire Ennead, which is basically the
name for the entire coalition of gods, sorta similar
to the Greek Olympians or Christianity's Holy
Trinity). Atum is the very first Egyptian god. Atum
created Shu (Su) and Tefnut (Tefnuit), and this can
be reflected how Su destroys Traps/Spells and
Tefnuit targets monsters. Shu and Tefnut made Geb (Gebeb)
and Nut (Nuit), the two weakest Hieratics. Why these
two were made the weakest, I dunno, because they
created the seemingly more powerful Osiris (Asar),
Isis (Eset), Nephthys (Nebthet), and Set (Sutekh).
Atum may be an Xyz Monster, but Sutekh is the
strongest Hieratic, not counting the Rank 8. But
Atum is Set's great-granddad, almost! Furthermore,
what kind of crazy logic is it to have the Nordic
Gods be Synchros and Egyptian gods be Xyzs? And how
is Egyptian culture even reflected in the Hieratic
playing style!! Are they only supposed to be Dragons
because of the 2012 Chinese Zodiac or what?!
Following the Hieratic theme, we have another big
dragon for you to look at today. Today it will be
Hieratic Dragon Of Sutekh.
A 8 star, 2800/2000 Light dragon, With as actually
decent enough effect. Similar to Dark armed Dragon,
You have to have 3 dragon type monsters in you GY to
banish to Special Summon him. DaD is better, since
he does not banish his requirements, lol. Anyway,
Once per turn, you can banish a dragon type monster
from the GY, and destroy a card on the field. Cool.
How cool? Actually, not very. Having to banish 3
monsters just to get him out is not good card
management, and really not necessary in the Hieratic
builds running now. Then you can only use the rest
of his effect once per turn. Woe is this guy! I see
no reason whatsoever to even play this big guy. He
has a good enough effect, but too high a cost to
even worry about. 2 for 2 on the bust for Hieratics
this week duelists.
