You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing, but its original ATK becomes 1000. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up Dragon-Type Normal Monster on the field; the Levels of all face-up "Hieratic" monsters currently on the field become the Level of that monster, until the End Phase. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0.

Hieratic Dragon of Eset I really like. Although you
may be turned off immediately by Level 5 and 1900
attack and 1200 defense (still a Light attributed
Dragon) you needn't tribute if you don't require.
You have to use your Normal Summon to Summon Eset
without a tribute, but its attack becomes 1000.
However, you are then allowed, once a turn, to
select a Normal Dragon Monster on the Field, and all
other face-up Hieratic Monsters have their Level
become equal to the Level of the selected Monster.
In a perfect world that would be something say Blue
Eyes White Dragon. Furthermore, when this card is
tributed (again regardless of for or why) you can
Special Summon a Normal Dragon Monster from your
Hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and its attack and defense
become 0. This is a great combo card, and an
integral piece of the Hieratic Deck in my mind.

This card is very unique when
it comes to this archetype. This card transforms all
Hieratic monsters’ level the same as a normal dragon
monster on the field. There are two basic levels
that this will entail, six and eight (Wattail Dragon
and Hieratic Seal of the Sun Dragon Overlord). From
that point it will be an easy rank 6 or rank 8.
It’s second effect, just like
many others, activate when it is tribute from either
the hand or the field. This is a free vanilla summon
and allows for better field presence. Again this
will mainly get you your Wattail Dragon or Hieratic
Seal of the Sun Dragon Overlord.
Pros: Free summon when tribute
and can be normal summoned.
Cons: Low attack when summoned
without tribute and Low attack in general.

This card is the key to XYZ Summoning, matching
the Levels of all HD monsters to that of a Normal
Dragon. Naturally, this card takes some setup, but
is well worth the effort as you can bring out almost
any XYZ with the right Normal Dragons in your deck.
Also, it replaces itself with a Normal monster if
tributed, making it even better for the theme. I
won't be surprised to see this card end up being a
focal card of many HD decks.

First and foremost, I don't care how disgustingly
low 1900 ATK is for a Level 5 monster, or even how
it drops to 1000 without an Advance Summon. In fact,
I even appreciate the flexibility. Eset isn't one of
the most important Hieratics, but it definitely
fulfills roles.
First off, it acts as a more reliable Normal Summon
than Nuit or Gebeb, later to be used as fodder to
summon Su or Nebthet. That's just one purpose that
Gebeb can do also, but, as always, the point is what
ELSE can Eset do?
In a pinch, Nebthet makes for a fast Rank 5 Xyz,
provided you have some strategy with Level 5 Normal
Dragons. It's not a common strategy, but it's
plausible.
The third reason is Nebthet's own main effect, to
make all Hieratics' Levels copy that of a Normal
Dragon's. This can make an easy job out of some
devastating triple Xyzs, such as using a Level 8
Normal Dragon to make Neo-Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon
(it's rarely worth the effort though, but it's
available should the need arise).
If you are using Hieratic Seal of the Sun Dragon
Overlord (Level 8 Normal Dragon), you might have
problems getting two copies out at once. Plop down
Eset, make it (or any other Hieratic) copy Level 8,
Xyz for Sun Dragon Overlord, commence mass
destruction. As issue, however, is that Hieratics
REALLY like to Xyz Rank 6, but Su is the only Level
6 Hieratic. As long as you have a Level 6 Normal
Dragon out (easy enough), Eset can easily serve as a
substitute. Hieratics (or Dragons in general) also
swarm very rapidly, and if your opponent can Xyz
Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum twice, it is a
very dangerous scenario.
Most of all, you're using one or two Esets to help
you summon Su, and then you have Eset's Level-change
effect as a nice bonus. In an extreme pinch, you can
Tribute Summon Eset, get a free Normal Dragon since
you just Tributed a Hieratic, and Xyz for almost any
Rank. (This can be a Level 8 for an instant Sun
Dragon Overlord, but most likely of all, you will
search a Wattaildragon and Xyz for Atum, who can
then further nab a Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
from the deck. Alternatively, you can nab Flamvell
Guard and Synchro either Brionac or Formula Synchron,
but that's an entirely different Hieratic playstyle.)

Aesthetics: 3/5 Eset is supposed to mean Isis/Aset,
the Egyptian goddess of nurturing and protection
(magic, fertility, etc.), as well as the widow of
Osiris (her own brother). Set (her other brother)
was the god that murdered Osiris, and Isis' son
Horus consequently has a vendetta on Set. Funnily
enough, Isis' sister Nephthys is wed to Set. Even
though the original Isis is supposed to look like
her sister Nephthys somewhat, the Hieratics for
Osiris and Set are completely different; Hieratic
Eset and Nebthet are pretty much the exact same
artwork. And I realize Nephthys is the goddess of
mourning while Isis is the goddess of fertility,
explaining the sun and moon behind Eset and Nebthet,
respectively, but the sun/moon placings on all the
Hieratic Dragons seems quite out of place and
non-related to original Egyptian culture. Isis'
"motherliness" can be reflected be Eset's effect in
conforming all the Levels of Hieratics on the field
and easy summoning conditions.
