Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit closes the week.  we're still obviously on Light attributed Dragons, but the Level and attack slightly improve from 5 to 6 and 2000 to 2100 (with a defense of 1400.)  An effect resembling slightly that of Cyber Dragon, if your opponent controls a Monster and you control none, you can Special Summon this card from your Hand.  So that makes this a great opening card, or late game even (although the 2100 attack may not be enough late game.)  However, if Special Summoned in this way, this card cannot attack in said turn.  Now, when tributed, you have your standard Hieratic text.  So let's review...I like the Special Summon, conditional as it is.  I don't like not being able to attack, and I don't like that's all it has going for it aside from the norm.

We finally get to talk about a key piece to the Hieratic puzzle. Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit has the Cyber Dragon ability of being special summoned with the draw back being that it cannot attack. Attacking is not something we are interested in doing with this card. The objective is to special summon it and then tribute it with another Hieratic monster like yesterday’s card or Su. This will give us a normal monster and a Hieratic monster on the field to Xyz summon with, or we could just go crazy and use more tribute effects to swarm the field. More on that in another week.

Another way to tribute Tefnuit to get its effect is to use cards that tribute like Enemy Controller. Simply special summon Tefnuit, use Enemy Controller to tribute it, (especially if they use Bottomless Trap Hole) and then special summon a dragon with the same level as the stolen monster and then Xyz summon.

One thing we have not talked about because it is not inherent to the Hieratic theme is Synchro summoning. All you need to do is to add one Flamvell Guard (level 1 Dragon) to your deck. Then when you tribute Tefnuit, you can bring out Flamvell Guard and Synchro summon with the other monster you have on the field. Or, you can special summon Tefnuit and normal summon Guard. As many of your Hieratic monsters are level 6, this means summoning Black Rose Dragon to clear the field then becomes an option.

Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit is an important card and needs to be run in three’s in a Hieratic deck.

So I'm reading everyone's articles for Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb back on Tuesday... And I realized...Gebeb does NOT summon ANY Normal Dragon you wish when Gebeb gets Tributed. This pushes the usability for Gebeb even lower than I first anticipated, and is another reason why to use Eset over Nuit or Gebeb. This means Gebeb can only summon (when Tributed) Hieratic Seal of the Sun Dragon Overlord, which is only used in certain uncommon Hieratic builds, or (from the Graveyard only because it's a Gemini) Hieratic Seal of the Dragon King, which I really do not recommend using at all.

Anyways, back to Tefnuit. Identical to the infamous Cyber Dragon in every way except for Type (ironically) and Tefnuit's slightly lower DEF score. Also, the name: you can use Cyber Dragon for various Fusions and being a Hieratic, Tefnuit  gets access to all their various support. Tefnuit has a restriction that makes it unable to attack, but that shouldn't be the case at all because you're supposed to Tribute Tefnuit right away, then get a free Normal Dragon for doing so! If Tefnuit's services are not necessary, use it to pay the cost of Su or Nebthet and get the free Normal Dragon anyway! :D I also suppose you can Normal Summon Tefnuit, but doing so is a rare occurance; the most likely case this would happen is Special Summoning a Tefnuit, Tribute Summoning a second Tefnuit over it, then getting a free Normal Dragon off the first Tefnuit and Xyz for Rank 6.

I said in the Eset article on Wednesday that Su was the only Level 6 Hieratic. Hehe, obviously I overlooked Tefnuit, but Tefnuit requires you to have no monsters to Special Summon, which makes abusing it for Rank 6 Xyz slightly hard, but still managable. Anyway, my point is, Tefnuit and Eset combined are what helps you start intiate the deadly Hieratic circle, and even if you don't Special Summon it, Tefnuit isn't always a dead card in hand. Otherwise, Tefnuit is the most splashable of all Hieratics if three Cyber Dragons are already being used for the sake of using it as an immediate Tribute; either that, or using a Level 6 for a particular Xyz or Synchro.

Traditional: 1.5/5 (Tefnuit requires you to be at a monster disadvantage, and unless you're very lucky at drawing Effect Veiler, you're probably dead once that happens)

Advanced: 3.9/5 (not the star for Hieratic plays, but it is a component to get them going and plus it has splashability value!)

Aesthetics: 2/5 Tefnut is the Egyptian goddess of water and was rumored to have the ability to excrete pure water, so I guess it's kinda appropriate for Tefnut to Special Summon itself (as water vapor condensing into a physical Dragon). She was rather aggressive, and was represented by a lion. I don't like the design behind the Hieratics in general, mainly because I don't really like having it based off a religion, even a fairly extinct one. Also, it is very inaccurate to make all the Hieratic Dragons Light Attribute, IMO.

This card, to put it simply, is basically a Cyber Dragon with an extra effect when it is tributed. This card can be very crucial in a turn one rank 6 xyz. Mid to late game is where this card’s secondary effect will come into fruition. Again this card, just like many other Hieratic dragon monsters, will special summon a level 6 dragon or the level 8 dragon for an xyz play. Another great use is special summoning this card, then tribute it for a lv 5-6 monster and special summon a normal dragon for an xyz summon.

Pros: Easy special summon, decent effect, decent attack, and honest-able.
Cons: The monster special summoned will be a 0/0 and has to be a normal monster.

Another key card to an HD deck as he can be Special Summoned if the opponent has monster(s) and you don't, allowing for a second summon in the same turn. What's more, he can replace himself with a Normal Dragon when tributed. The only downside is that he can't attack the turn he's Special Summoned via his effect. Still, you can start off some of the theme's best combos using him, so I recommend running him in multiples in any HD deck.
