The Wicked Avatar, certainly one of the more
interesting Monsters in the Yugioh world, closes our
week. We have a Level 10, Dark attributed
Fiend-type Monster, with ? attack and defense. As
for an immediate drawback, this card cannot be
Special Summoned and can only be Normal Summoned by
tributing three Monsters. Now, The
Wicked Avatar has attack and defense 300 points
greater than the strongest Monster on the Field
(other than The Wicked Avatar). Furthermore, your
opponent cannot activate Magic or Trap cards until
the end of their second turn after this card is
Normal Summoned. However, said cards can still be
activated in relation to the Normal Summon of this
card. The effect relating to attack and defense of
The Wicked Avatar is nice. Three Monsters IS a big
investment, but you might need a specific Deck to
work with in order to fully utilize this Monster.
Double Coston can help as this is a Dark Monster.
IF you can keep this guy on the Field when you
Summon him, it's going to be a good thing. No Magic
or Trap cards for two turns from your opponent makes
your life easier.

The Wicked Avatar
Lv 10/DARK/Fiend/?A/?D
"This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card
cannot be Normal Summoned or Set except by Tributing
3 monsters. Your opponent cannot activate Spell or
Trap Cards until the end of their 2nd turn after
this card is Normal Summoned. The ATK and DEF of
this card are each 100 points higher than the
highest face-up monster's ATK on the field (except
"The Wicked Avatar")."
The Giant Bowling Ball of Doom!"
The last bit of fun for the week, and this is a
potentially useful fun card. I only call it fun
because it's a bit difficult to get out. While
there's ways to get 3 monsters on the field at the
same time, that's quite a lot of effort. Still in
this case, it's worth it. This acts as an
opponent-only Cold Wave for 2 of their turns and
makes itself the strongest monster on the field by a
hundred points. Beatstick + S/T shutdown = game
over.
Definitely a card that you can build a deck
around, but sadly, you'll almost have too despite
the fact that he could technically be splashed into
just about any deck out there.

Ok, I'm not gonna deny this is a powerful card.
Just with its ATK-altering effect, you can get some
pretty silly combos going on with overpowering your
own monsters (such as with The Calculator or Phantom
of Chaos) or capitalizing on Avatar's
invulnerability to having its own ATK decreased.
Completely blocking off the opponent's Traps and
Spells and invincibility to being destroyed by
battle, means, obviously, the opponent must be
reliant on monster effects. This isn't always the
case, and if it isn't, Avatar will be a very hard
glob of mass to stop. If it is, however, Avatar will
be severely punished.
Tell me, what Deck will you use that will actually
use Avatar in? Why would you want Avatar over
something like Beast King Barbaros? It's not BAD,
persay, but by no means is it splashable. Not only
is it not a great splash, but it doesn't hold a
niche either. This makes it very hard to justify a
spot for Avatar in any deck. That in mind, I think
the most likely scenario for Avatar is in a generic
Fiend Deck. Decks like Infernities and Dark
World...eh, I guess you could splash Avatar in, but
it would only be an average option, and usually,
average isn't good enough. Double Coston is also an
invaluable asset to summoning Avatar properly.
So how do you get about to countering Avatar? You're
usually using Avatar with a bunch of Dark monsters
anyway, so if Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror or Skill
Drain is already active on the field, Avatar is a
worthless draw. Granted, Avatar will be safe if
summoned before these two are activated, just like
how Avatar will be safe from Mirror Force for two
turns, but anyway this is a rarity. Effect Veiler
turns Wicked Avatar into a very sad puddle of mush,
and if for whatever reason Avatar isn't taken down
that turn, the effect to block Traps and Spells is
waived. Book of Moon, Black Luster Soldier, or Ryko,
Lightsworn Hunter, all very splashable cards, also
rips through Avatar easily, making those three
Tributes a depressing investment.
Traditional: 1/5 You're never busting this guy out.
Regardless, it is easily stopped by CED.

Aesthetics: 2/5 I know being a great black,
shapeshifiting orb is supposed to be symbolic of Ra,
but a little more detail in the art wouldn't hurt.
