Splash Capture is obviously a card you're only
going to see in one Deck...in terms of resources,
this Trap is a -2, as you have to remove two Fish
Monsters from your Graveyard, and give up this card
itself, just to take control of an XYZ Monster your
opponent controls. Not a bad thing, but also it has
to be WHEN said Monster is XYZ Summoned. Also it's
worth pointing out that it doesn't say anything like
"control for the turn" but also worth noting it does
specifically target said Monster, obviously. If
you're playing the Deck, I guess you could use one,
but even then I'm not sure.
Ratings:
3/5 even in the Deck cause it's just not great

It is officially summer time now as most schools
are out and it is time to go splash around in the
water and capture some sun. Yep, that means that we
are going to review Splash Capture today. This card
may be a little bit premature as Fish/Water decks
will be getting a big boost in two more sets with
Abyss Rising and the structure deck – Roar of the
Sea Emperor.
Taking control of your opponent’s newly summoned Xyz
monster is a good thing and being able to keep it
and do what ever you want with it is even better.
There is a little bit of support from Generation
Force that supports this card. Fish and Kicks can
banish a monster with 3 of the fish we removed, Fish
and Swap can return them to our hands, and Oh Fish
can negate effect monsters.
Getting two fish to the graveyard is as easy as
“Nimble Sunfish” as when it is destroyed by battle
and sent to the grave, you can send another fish to
the graveyard from your deck and summon another
Nimble Sunfish and use it for something like Fish
Depth Charge.
Now is not Splash Capture’s time, but keep this card
in your collection as in about six months, this card
may be a key card in an all new Fish/Water deck. My
ratings reflect the cards current use.

Splash Capture is that underrated card that
everyone likes, but no one really uses. A trap card
that allows you to take one of your opponent's Xyz
monster when they summon it, but you must banish 2
Fish-Type monsters from your grave. Cards like Abyss
Soldier and Nimble Sunfish can help fuel Splash
Capture really fast. While a bit situational, you
can catch your opponent napping if they don't have
one of the Solemn cards set, ready to negate your
Splash Capture trap. All they have to do is Xyz
summon, and in this format, someone should be doing
it any second now.....

Well, clearly, this card is only seeing use in Fish
Decks, especially BanFish.
Fish is not at the very top of the meta like
Inzektors are, but they're still respectable. Will
Splash Capture change that (despite being released
at the very start of the Zexal era in Generation
Force)?
As I stated in the Mind Control review, stealing an
opponent's monster without any significant costs is
definitely very annoying. This makes it similar to
the Continuous Trap Tuner's Scheme, which steals
your opponent's Synchro Monster without cost. Let's
see how SC works in play, though:
Inzektors blow up all facedowns before attempting to
Xyz. Good luck using Splash Capture on them.
Evolzor Laggia can protect itself from this,
although it makes itself vulnerable to Dimensional
Prison or Mirror Force later on. Even in a Fish
Deck, though, Bottomless Trap Hole is a lot more
splashable and diverse in application.
Stealing Wind-Up Zenmaighty can mess up a Wind-Up
Deck's momentum and 1500/1500 is not bad for a
stolen monster. Some Fish Decks splash Wind-Up Shark
or Snail so you might even be able to use
Zenmaighty's effect, but otherwise it's only ok.
Those were only the most top examples. Stealing
something such as Utopia, Leviathan Dragon, Blade
Armour Ninja, Wind-Up Zenmaines, etc. could have
drastic payoffs. A lot of top players however,
should they be playing a Fish Deck, will be too
impatient to set this card and wait for the
opportunity the opponent happens to Xyz Summon. That
is why most professionals would want to avoid using
this card; they don't like cards they rely on your
opponent to satisfy activation requirements, cards
such as Bottomless Trap Hole or Mirror Force being
exceptions because it is very rare for the opponent
not to summon a monster or to attack (which is why I
enjoy using Final Countdown, which makes all those
Solemn Warnings, BTH, Dimensional Prisons, and
Mirror Forces complete dead draws). Regardless of
how popular Xyz Summoning is, Splash Capture still
relies on your opponent to play a specific kind of
monster, and some Decks, such as Six Samurai or
Blackwing, potentially run zero Xyz Monsters.
I, on the other hand, feel the theft of monster is
nevertheless a potentially big play, even though
this isn't a Counter Trap. If you're feeling up for
it, put this in the Side Deck and you can spring it
against an non-Inzektor, Xyz-heavy opponent
(although granted, your Side Deck should be designed
to carry direct counters against Decks your Fishes
have severe problems against, not to be adding "cool
cards" like Splash Capture). If you're the really
audacious type, use this in Main Deck and side it
out if you're against the wrong type of opponent
(which will probably be unfortunately often).

Advanced: 2.89/5
Aesthetics: 1.95/5 I don't get the concept behind
this card, and I would've preferred if it was
changed to be more splashable. Um, is that supposed
to be Gem-Knight Pearl?
