You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Hieratic" monster. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Hieratic" monster, except this card, from your hand or your side of the field, to target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0.

You like Hieratic Dragons? Well you're going to be
seeing a lot of them over the coming reviews, and we
start with Hieratic Dragon of Su. So, we have a
Light attributed, Level 6, Dragon type Monster, and
Light and Dragon are both great things. 2200 attack
is about as awesome as the 1000 defense on this
card. By tributing a Hieratic Monster, you can
Special Summon this Dragon. That makes the 2200
attack a bit more bearable to deal with. Once a
turn, by targeting a Hieratic Monster (present
company excluded of course) from your Field or Hand,
you can target and destroy a Magic/Trap card your
opponent controls. When this card is tributed, you
can Special Summon a Dragon type Normal Monster form
your Hand, Deck, OR Graveyard. and make its attack
and defense 0. Obviously that right there is the
money effect, whether to Synchro, XYZ, or even
tribute for another effect in the cycle of the Deck.
The Hieratic cards are quite interesting and can be
quite a formidable and annoying Deck to play
against.

Hieratic Dragon of Su is the key monster in a
Hieratic Deck. It has the amazing ability to cause 3
tributes. First you can special summon Su by
tributing a Hieratic which usually has an effect to
special summon a monster when tributed. Second, you
can tribute a Hieratic to destroy a Spell/Trap card
your opponent controls thus activating that
Hieratic’s ability to special summon another
monster. Sense you still have not summoned a
monster, you can then tribute Dragon of Su to summon
another Hieratic, and thus special summon another
Dragon-Type Normal Monster giving you a total of 4
monsters on the field in which to Xyz summon two
powerful Xyz monsters.
All you need is one Hieratic that you can summon and
Hieratic Dragon of Su in hand to bring out a
powerful rank 6 Xyz monster like Photon Strike
Bounzer, Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, Number 25:
Force Focus, and Inzektor Exa-Beetle. Simply summon
a Hieratic monster and tribute it for Su and then
use the effect of the tributed monster to summon a
level 6 normal monster like Wattaildragon.
We have yet to see the full potential of the
Hieratic Deck, but I would think that we will not
have to wait too long before one tops a YCS or WCQ.
Hieratic Dragon of Su will be the catalyst behind
its success.

The reason I want to start reviewing Hieratics for
the next two weeks is to make sure you all realize
that they are quickly becoming a popular Deck, and
also because the only other Hieratic we ever
reviewed was a splashable Xyz.
I'll tell you right now, if for some reason I don't
have Light-Imprisoning Mirror ready, this card would
be the card I'd be targeting with Prohibition if I'm
facing Hieratics.
Why Su and not something like Red-Eyes Darkness
Metal Dragon or Hieratic Dragon of Atum? Clearly, Su
is the card that LEADS to that infamous Hieratic
play. Su is the reason Hieratics rarely use Sun
Dragon Overlord (both the Level 8 Normal version and
the Rank 8 Xyz version), similar to how Inzektors
never use Inzektor Exa-Beetle.
Here's how it goes: Firstly, Su does not use up your
Normal Summon, provided you're not caught in a
scenario where you don't have any other summonable
Hieratic monsters. This is most often done by Normal
Summoning Eset or by using the self-Special
Summoning Tefnuit. Almost all Hieratics gives you a
free summon of a Dragon-Type Normal Monster, and
since that counts as Tributing a monster for Su,
summon any Normal Dragon from your deck. Su can also
Tribute any Hieratic monster to be an MST, and
that's ANOTHER summon out of the deck. When it comes
down to it, you will usually summon Wattaildragon,
the highest-ATK Level 6 Normal Dragon (and it's
Light to boot). Now you have a bunch of Level 6
Dragons, meaning you Xyz Summon Hieratic Dragon King
of Atum (to be covered soon); Atum can summon ANY
Dragon from your deck, and you will usually go for
Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to recycle one of
those Level 6 Dragons. It should be rather easy to
summon yet another Level 6 Dragon (or maybe you
already have one), so summon another Atum and
another REDMD. You can use your twin REDMD to play a
Rank 10 Xyz, throw Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charge
on top of the Atums, you have a very scary attacking
force, usually good for OTK.
Aside from that scary, slippery slope, as
aforementioned, Su can make any other Hieratic you
have into a MST. You can even tribute a Su on your
field for another Su in your hand, and doing all
this gives you a tremendous field advantage straight
out of your deck (or, in a pinch, your Graveyard or
Egyptian-God forbid your hand). It's not as
blaphemous as Inzektors, but still pretty potent. In
a pinch, you can even summon Flamvell Guard (a
Normal Dragon Tuner), or even other-leveled Dragons,
such as the Level 8 Hieratic Seal of the Sun Dragon
Overlord. The strategy I just listed is the most
common and arguably most effective, though.
Traditional: 2.5/5 (I mean, yeah, Hieratics have an
OTK strategy, but it focuses on maxing out their
Monster Card Zones for a brutal offence, which is
different from your usual infamous Traditional
FTK's, although being a Light Dragon archetype makes
Hieratics interesting)
Advanced: 4.1/5
Aesthetics: 3.1/5 I'm pretty sure Egyptian culture
never really had Dragons in their mythology. What I
rather dislike is the complicated names, which, in
my case at least, makes for a long time to
understand which Hieratic does exactly what. In any
case, Shu is the Egyptian God of Air; go Cyclone!

Sorry This review was entered late, but I was on
vacation. See the following card review for my
details on the Heratic Dragon deck-theme...
Su is a key card to the theme as you can Special
summon him, then deal with any S/T you opponent
controls, allowing for great field control. What's
better, you can tribute an HD from your hand OR from
the field, helping you get rid of dead cards from
your hand. While you can only use his effect once
per turn, it can be a real game changer by wiping
out the opponent's defenses. His stats are also
rather good for a Lv 6 monster. To add some extra
spice, he replaces himself with a Normal Dragon,
although that monster loses all of it's ATK and DEF
points.
