2 Level 9 monsters. Once per Battle Step, during your opponent's turn, if this card with Xyz Material is attacked: Negate the attack (this is a Quick Effect). When this card is targeted for an attack, while it has no Xyz Materials: You can target 2 monsters in your Graveyard; attach those targets to this card as Xyz Materials. During your Main Phase 1: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; this card can attack your opponent directly this turn. Your opponent must control a monster with higher ATK than this card for you to activate and to resolve this effect.

I am Spellcaster to and through, but the nerd and
science side of me picked the card we close the week
with. Number 9: Dyson Sphere, is a very
interesting XYZ Monster. A Dyson Sphere, for those
who are unaware (or may be familiar with via
science, or Star Trek (ala the Next Generation
episode Relics) is an idea coined by the scientist
Freeman Dyson. Theoretically, it's a giant metallic
sphere that could house countless people, harnessing
the energy of a star or sun, for a livable community
until the star or sun went dead. You would have
unlimited energy, at least for the life of the star.
It''s an incredibly ingenius and remarkable idea
that's always fascinated me!
As for the card itself, Number 9: Dyson Sphere, is
a Rank 9 XYZ Monster, and a Light attributed
Machine, with 2800 attack and 3000 defense, who is
XYZ Summoned with two Level 9 Monsters. That alone
is probably about enough of a detriment to anyone
who might even want to play this card. This card
has a Quick Effect, being if its attacked, during
the Battle Step, so long as it has XYZ Material,
that attack is negated. That's worthwhile,
(ignoring actual cards to destroy this card) if your
opponent only has one Monster stronger than Dyson
Sphere, it won't be destroyed. The effect can be
used more than once a turn, so long as the XYZ
Material can be discarded. Now, you're probably
thinking that's not all too special as you're only
going to get that twice. Wrong--the next effect is
very fitting of the name and use of a Dyson Sphere.
If Dyson Sphere is targeted for an attack while
holding no XYZ Material, you can add two Monsters
from your Graveyard as new XYZ Material to this
card. Furthermore, if your opponent controls a
Monster (or Monsters) with attack higher than this
card, during your Main Phase 1, by discarding an XYZ
Material, Dyson Sphere can attack your opponent
directly. Getting Dyson Sphere to the Field may be
tricky, but if you can, he's going to be a lot of
fun. Enjoy!

Today we are going to look at a Xyz monster that
takes 2 level 9 monsters to summon. Number 9: Dyson
Sphere is well named. It is pretty beastly at 2800
attack and 3000 defense. And then there are the
three effects that it has. The first is to protect
itself from attacked as long as it has material
attached to it. The second effect is to attach two
monsters from your grave to it if is attached and
has no material. As it has already been attacked, it
can not then negate that attack. However, you could
then play cards like Book of Moon and Forbidden
Lance to save it from being destroyed. You could
also grab cards that get their effect when sent to
the graveyard from anywhere like Eclipse Wyvern and
Dandylion. The last effect is to attack directly if
your opponent controls a monster with a higher
attack by removing a material.
Now comes the tough part; getting those two level 9
monsters on the field. There are not too many level
9 monsters in the game and most of them have to be
synchro or fusion summoned. You could play Winged
Kuriboh LV9 against spell heavy decks like
Spellbooks and E-Heros. Then use the effect of
Tragoedia to make it a level 9 while LV9 is in the
graveyard. Then special summon Winged Kuriboh with
Call or Monster Reborn. Likewise, you can do the
same thing with a synchro or fusion deck that plays
level 9 synchro or fusion monsters.
The second way to get level 9 monsters on the field
is to make them. The fastest way to do this is with
a new card from Abyss Rising called Tannhauser Gate.
All you need is two monsters on the field with their
levels adding up to 9 to make them both level 9
monsters. If you have a level 9 monster on the field
and one other monster, you can play Galaxy Queen’s
Light to make them both level 9 monsters. You can
also play spellbook of Life on High Priestess of
Prophecy using a level 4 Spellcaster to make her a
level 9 monster.
As you can see, it is not easy getting two level 9
monsters on the field and in order to do it, you
have to expend a lot of resources. Once you get
Number 9 out, I am not sure all the hard work and
dedication is worth it. There are much better Xyz
monsters to choose from that are much easier to
summon.
