On the non-Spellcaster front, Soul of Silvermountain
is one of the more interesting XYZ Monsters, and
some more welcome support to a Rock Deck. This is a
Rank 3, Rock type, XYZ Monster, XYZ Summoned with
two Level 3 Earth Monsters, of the Earth attribute
appropriately, with 1800 attack and 2200 defense.
Once per turn, you can discard an XYZ Material from
this card to target (note target) a Set Magic or
Trap card card your opponent controls. The selected
card cannot be activated as long as this card is
face-up on the Field. If this card destroys an
opponent's Monster while it has XYZ Material, you
can Special Summon a Rock Monster from your
Graveyard in face-up Defense position. Special
Summoning is always a good thing, but the 1800
attack could make that troublesome. Also, the first
effect, while not bad, is hardly game breaking.
It's a good card, not great, but not bad either.

Soul of Silvermountain is a favorite of mine
because it is a great card in an Earth deck and I
like playing Earth decks. It also has a bunch of
great effects. By detaching a material, your
opponent can not activate one of their set spell or
trap cards. That should give you a clear path to
attack your opponent’s monster. Granted, 1800 attack
is not much, but in the right situation and in the
right deck, it can do the job quite nicely and
special summon an Earth monster from your Graveyard.
The list of Earth decks is many. Billy Blake played
Soul of Silvermountain in his Psychic deck. X-Saber,
Six Samurai, Karakuri, Madolche, Morphtronic,
Naturia, Scrap, and Nordic Beasts can all use Soul
of Silvermountain in the Extra Deck. I would love to
talk about all of these decks, but there is not
enough time in the day, however I would like to talk
about one deck type that may be an up-and-comer.
I find that Madolche decks are quite intriguing.
First we summon Madolche Mewfeuille then use its
effect to special summon Madolche Baaple from our
hand. Then we use Baaple’s effect to switch our
opponent’s powerful monster to defense, Xyz Soul of
Silvermountain, and then attack.
Soul of Silvermountain is one of those Xyz monsters
that have a hard time in finding Extra Deck space.
It is one of those monsters that is only useful in
the right deck and under the right circumstances.

Today we climb to new heights as we review Soul
of Silvermountain. A Rank 3 EARTH/Rock-Type Xyz
monster, with 1800 ATK and 2200 DEF. And needs 2
level 3 EARTH monsters to Xyz summon.
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz material from
this card to target 1 set card in your opponent's
Spell/Trap zone; it cannot be activated while this
card is face up on the field. If this card destroys
a monster while it has Xyz materials: You can target
1 EARTH in your graveyard; Special Summon that
target in face-up Defense position.
A few decks can make this card work. Wind-ups,
X-Sabers, and various EARTH decks will make the most
of Silvermountain. Cards like Gilasaurus
and Marauding Captain can get Silvermountian pretty
fast. His 1800 ATK is ok, can get over a few
monsters, but his 2200 DEF can fend off even more.
Once a turn, you can detach a Xyz material from this
card to shut down a set spell/trap card on your
opponent's side of the field, but it's as long as
Silvermountain is face up on the field. That means
as long as you can keep it face up and alive, you
can keep that pesky spell/trap from being activated.
That is pretty darn good. Being able to special
summon an EARTH monster when it destroys one of your
opponent's monsters is very good, even if it
summoned in face up defense position. The trick is
it has to have at least 1 Xyz material on it. I
suggest Overlay Regen (Again) if you plan on
shutting down your opponent's spell/trap zone or
have it there to get it's special summoning ability.
Soul of Silvermountain is worth a look at in any
kind of Earth deck.
