Another Trap Hole variant...Void Trap Hole activates when your opponent Special Summons a Monster (or Monsters) with 2000 or more attack.  Negate the effect(s) of one of those Monsters, and if successful, said Monster is destroyed.  First off, I guess the 2000 attack restriction isn't awful, but I consider the latter ability, as the effect must be negated to destroy the Monster, is kind of a downer.  Bottomless Trap Hole is far superior to this, in my opinion, and I think I'd use Solemn Warning over this too, despite the 2000 Lifepoint cost.  Sorry to be short today, but I don't see much going for this card.

Ratings:

3-(X+Y)/5 both Formats, where X = .5 for each Bottomless Trap Hole you play instead, and Y = .25 for each Solemn Warning

Void Trap Hole is one of those cards that are borderline good. It is a poor man’s Bottomless Trap Hole that costs more. While Bottomless can hit every monster 1500 or more in attack that is summoned, Void can only hit Special Summoned monsters of 2000 or more attack, can only hit one of them, and has to negate its effect first. That is allot and it also targets.

This card is one that can be very confusing. For instance; if a Cyber Dragon is special summoned, Void Trap Hole can not be activated as Cyber Dragon does not have an effect to be negated. It could be activated in response to Stardust Dragon’s summon but the dragon can respond to its activation by tributing itself. Probably the best use for Void Trap Hole over Bottomless Trap Hole, would be against monsters that trigger on summoning or against monsters that can save themselves, like Monarchs, Zenmaines, and Six Samurai.

The biggest problem that Void Trap Hole has is competing with better options like Torrential Tribute, Bottomless Trap Hole, and the Solemn Brigade (Warning and Judgment). I guess if you wanted to play a heavy trap lineup, Void Trap Hole could find room in your deck, but there are just too many restrictions for Void to be in a normal deck. If we had this card back in the days of Priority, it would be used in threes. Still a good card though.

We look at Void Trap Hole today. A normal trap card, and a decent one at that.

When your opponent special summon(s) a monster with 2000 or more ATK: Negate the effects of one of those monsters with 2000 or more ATK; and if you do, destroy it.

Simple, yet effective. I can see this card becoming a sort of staple as a lot of monsters that are special summoned are over 2000 these days, with a few exceptions of course. You get to negate the effect of a powerful monster, and destroy it. That's even better than just negating an effect. This card can solve a lot of problems. It's a bit situational, but you play bottomless, right?

Tomorrow: I forsee...Destruction.
