It came from the deep! Welcome to Structure Deck
week, as we review cards from the new Realm of the
Sea Emperor Structure Deck! Next week we'll be back
to Return of the Duelist, and next Friday Abyss
Rising is released, so the following week, we're
going to start peering into that. But for the
business at hand, let's start with an opening
tidbit...Creator of the Points system said it best,
years ago, and I agree...A Legendary Ocean isn't
necessary in EVERY Water Deck. Just wanted that out
there, but opening the week, is Atlantean Marksman.
A Level 3, Sea Serpent, with 1400 attack and 0
defense, obviously of the Water attribute. (YAY for
new Sea Serpents!) So, when this card inflicts
Battle Damage to your opponent, you can Special
Summon a Level 4 or lower Atlantean Monster, of the
Sea Serpent variety, present company excluded of
course, from your Deck. Furthermore, when this card
is sent to the Graveyard to activate the effect of a
Water Monster, target a Set card your opponent
controls, and destroy it. I like that effect
better, as with the low attack, I don't see you
getting the first effect very often. But it's
certainly easy enough to get the second effect.
Also, ALL ratings, in the respective Formats are for
Water Decks ONLY, thanks!

We have a rather exciting week of reviews for you
this week. We are reviewing cards from the new water
structure deck – Realm of the Sea Emperor. If you do
not have three of these structure decks, you may
want to snatch them up as this deck type has some
real possibilities. Like many of its predecessors,
Realm of the Sea Emperor with staple cards and cards
from Abyss Rising could be topping Regionals and
YCS’s very soon.
The first card we will be evaluating is Atlantean
Marksman. It has two effects that make it a staple
in an Atlantean deck. First, you get to search for a
level 4 or lower Sea Serpent monster from your deck
when you inflict battle damage. With 1400 attack,
Marksman is not going to get over too many monsters.
However, if you combine its attack with cards like
Forbidden Lance or Shrink, you will be special
summoning monsters like Atlantean Dragoons or
Atlantean Attack Squad. You could also attack
directly with Marksman if you have a Dragoons on the
field.
The second effect of Atlantean Marksman is the main
reason for playing it. When it is sent to the
graveyard to activate the effect of a water monster,
you destroy a set card your opponent controls. This
effect is what makes Atlanteans so explosive, as
they can plus for days. When combined with the
Mermail monsters from Abyss Rising, the Atlantean
theme is going to be a deck to be reckoned with.
Let’s take a look at just some of the big plays that
Atlantean Marksman gives you. Attack with Marksman,
deal damage, special summon Atlantean Attack Squad,
attack for an additional 2200 ATK, then Xyz summon
Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, use its effect to pump
it to 2500 attack by sending Marksman to the grave,
and then pop your opponent’s face down card as
Leviathan is a water monster. A more conventional
move is to summon Genex Undine, use its effect to
send Marksman to the graveyard to add Genex
Controller to your hand and blow up a face-down
card. That is a plus two by the way. Summon Abyss
Soldier, ditch Marksman to bounce your opponent’s
Xyz or Synchro monster and blow up a set card of
your opponents. And the beat goes on.
Other water monsters that will trigger Atlantean
Marksman include Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity (hmm
Wind-Ups), Submersible Carrier Aero Shark, Gungnir
Dragon of the Ice Barrier, Dragon Ice,
Poseidra the Atlantean Dragon, and the Mermail
monsters to name just a few. You will definitely
want to run two or three of these bad boys in your
Atlantean deck, both now and in a few weeks.

With the release of the new WATER structure deck,
and Hurricane Sandy, we are looking at a few of the
cards from said deck. Today we go under the sea with
the Atlantean Marksman.
A level 3 WATER/Sea Serpent with 1400 ATK and a big
ole 0 for DEF. This card is pretty handy, as when it
does any type of battle damage, you can special
summon a level 4 or lower Atlantean Sea-Serpent-type
monster except another copy of this card. Not a bad
effect as that monster can attack right away and you
can use that monster to either synchro or Xyz
depending on what you decide to special summon.
Marksman's other effect is when you send this card
to the graveyard for the activation of a WATER
monster's effect, you can target one set card your
opponent controls and destroy it. One way to do this
was seen at the YCS at Rhode Island, using Genex
Undine's effect to send a WATER monster from the
deck to the graveyard, get Undine's effect and
Marksman's destruction effect. Dragon Ice, Abyss
Soldier, and Gungnir are a few other options as
well. Overall, this is a great card as there are a
lot of ways to get Marksman's set card wrecking
effect. Mix that with his special summoning effect,
and he makes for a good monster. Yeah his stats
aren't the best, but it brings balance to this
really good card. But only in a deck built around
WATER/Atlanteans, but you already knew that.
