High Priestess of Prophecy was an excellent, and
powerful, high level Spellcaster from the new set.
Hierophant of Prophecy is as well, being a Rank 7
XYZ Monster, XYZ Summoned with two Level 7
Spellcasters (easy enough in the Deck) with stats
that mirror DMoC at 2800 attack, and 2600 defense.
Obviously a Spellcaster, and Dark, which is almost
always a good thing. She's a heavy hitter, and best
used for a Field clear (back row obviously) to
finish a game safely. I would stick to using her
late game, as she's better the more Spellbook Magic
cards in your Graveyard, although that's simple
enough to accomplish early. Regardless, by
discarding an XYZ Material, you can destroy Magic
and/or Trap cards equal to the number of the
aforementioned Spellbook Magic cards in your
Graveyard. That's probably an average of three,
maybe more. Now, I'd use one of these, and a High
Priestess. I think the latter is marginally better,
despite the 2500 attack, easier to Special Summon,
and her effect can destroy one CARD on the Field.
They work well together, however.

We get to review a pretty swell card today in
Hierophant of Prophecy. Yes, I said it: “swell”. As
the Spellbook/Prophecy deck runs at least 12
Spellbooks, having enough Spellbooks in the
graveyard to destroy your opponent’s backfield is
not going to be a problem. All we need now is two
Level 7 Spellcaster monsters.
There are three Level 7 Spellcaster monsters of
note: Arcanite Magician, Endymion the Master
Magician, and High Priestess of Prophecy that can be
used to make Hierophant of Prophecy. Arcanite and
High Priestess could be used in a Prophecy/Synchro
deck while Endymion and High Priestess could be used
in Prophecy/Magical Citadel deck. It is the latter
that I find most interesting.
Summon Endymion by removing 6 spell counters from
Magical Citadel of Endymion and special summon High
Priestess of Prophecy by revealing 3 Spellbooks in
your hand, by using the effect of Temperance of
Prophecy, or summon it from the graveyard with Call
of the Haunted or Monster Reborn. Then use both
their effects to destroy your opponent’s monsters
and Xyz summon Hierophant of Prophecy to destroy
your opponent’s spells and traps.
There are other ways to special summon Hierophant
of Prophecy. Gagaga Girl and Gagaga Magician can be
made into level 7 monsters using their effects. You
can also use Spellbook of Life, removing a level 4
monster to special summon a level 3 monster, thus
making it a level 7 monster.
The question remains; is Hierophant of Prophecy
worth the sacrifice of two powerful level 7
monsters? Obviously Hierophant only gets to destroy
spells and traps if you play it with Spellbooks, so
its worth is tied to the success of Spellbooks and
it is only good in Spellcaster decks.

Today on COTD, we will see if Hierophant of
Prophecy is deemed indeed a holy card. A Rank 7,
DARK/Spellcaster Xyz Type, needing 2 level 7
Spellcasters to Xyz summon. With the amazing stats
of 2800 ATK and 2600 DEF, have fun trying to
overpower this card with out some kind of help.
Once per turn: You can detach one Xyz material from
this card; destroy spell/trap cards your opponent
controls up to the number of Spellbook spell cards
in your graveyard.
Im very surprised at myself for overlooking this
card. This is a very good card for Spellcasters, as
getting 2 level 7 Spellcasters may seem a bit hard,
but there are a few answers to that. The Gagaga duo
is the first way that comes to mind, as Summoner
Monk, getting Gagaga Magician, using his effect then
something like Galaxy Queen's Light to get it to
level 7. Dark Magician is a level 7 Spellcaster as
well, and he has Dark Magician Girl and Sage's Stone
at his disposal. Hierophant's stats are enough to
get over most monsters and fend off more. His effect
is pretty good, as it destroys Spells/Traps that
your opponent controls up to the amount of Spellbook
spell cards in your grave for detaching one Xyz
material from this card. In a good Prophecy build,
there should be at least 3-4 Spellbooks in the grave
by the time this guy hits the field. And in case you
need another shot at your opponent's back row, you
can use Overlay Regen to wreck their spell and trap
cards again. This card is a huge target for
Bottomless Trap Hole, Effect Veiler and Torrential
Tribute, as your opponent will do what they have to
do to save their protective cards.

Well, while it's nice to see a Spellcaster XYZ
monster, I'm a little disapointed at him needing 2
Lv 7 Spellcasters to get out. Because of that and
the Spellbook cards that fuel his effect, this card
clearly needs to have the deck at least partially
built around him. There's not many Lv 7 Spellcasters
out there, for one thing, making bringing him out
harder. While the effect is nice, this card is meant
to be a late game card as it requires a fair amount
of set up to make the most of. That and his
restrictions on summoning and his effect make him a
very limited-use card. Nice stats on him, but that's
not enough reason to use him. A good idea for a
card, but he needs more cards to support him. Here's
hoping Konami does so soon. Until then, stick him in
your collection and enjoy the artwork.
