This week, for the rest of the week, we finish our
Return of the Duelist countdown. Spellbook of
Secrets is an incredibly simple, but necessary Magic
card for the Decktype. It is a very handy 1-for-1,
adding speed to an all ready quick and powerful
Deck. Spellbook of Secrets lets you add one
Spellbook Magic card, other than itself, to your
Hand. It does have the setback of only being able
to use one of itself a turn, but that adds balance.
If you're playing a Spellbook Deck, you're using at
least two, and you might be playing all three you're
allowed. Not much else to say here folks.

Today’s card is the searcher for the Spellbooks.
Spellbook of Secrets can not only get you any
Spellbook that you need for the current situation,
but also get you a Spellbook in the graveyard.
Spellbook of Secrets is the catalyst for a
consistent Spellbook deck and needs to be played in
three’s.
We currently have three really good Spellbooks that
we can search out depending on our situation. If we
need to protect our spellcaster from spells or
traps, we can search for Spellbook of Wisdom. If we
have a good monster to special summon from the
graveyard, we can search for Spellbook of Life. If
we need an extra 1000 attack points, search for
Spellbook of Power. With the release of the next
set, Abyss Rising, we can search for Spellbook of
Institute – La Maison for draw power, or Goethe
Spellbook to do some even more amazing things.
The second thing Spellbook of Secrets does for us is
to give us at least two played spells for use with
monsters that use this to add spell counters to
themselves. Magical Exemplar, Royal Magical Library,
Magical Marionette, and Skilled Dark Magician are
all good cards to use with Spellbooks. Magical
Exemplar is a great card to use in Spellbook/Prophecy
decks as it can easily summon Temperance of Prophecy
and if you get Spellbook of Life you can special
summon another monster and then another with
Temperance of Prophecy. That is what we call loading
the field with monsters to wreak havoc on your
opponent.
If Spellbook/Prophecy decks become popular with the
release of Abyss Rising, Spellbook of Secrets will
play a major role. For now, my ratings will reflect
the unknown.

I cannot begin to start about how important
Spellbook of Secrets is to the Prophecy/Spellcaster
archtype. Much like E-Hero- Stratos, it nets you
whatever spellbook you need from the deck to your
hand, except another copy of Spellbook of Secrets.
And to give it a bit of balance, you can only
activate Spellbook of Secrets once per turn. Just
make sure the card you pick fits the situation you
need it for. Long story short, you are using a few
Spellbook spell cards, you need a copy or two of
this.

Hello and welcome to our final
week of Return of the Duelist’s Top 11 cards! Today
we have a new card fresh from the newest set.
Spellbook of Secrets
Normal Spell
“Add 1 "Spellbook" card from
your Deck to your hand, except "Spellbook of
Secrets". You can only activate 1 "Spellbook of
Secrets" per turn.”
Let me start by saying that
this is a Reinforcement of the Army for Spellbook
cards. It is a very crafty engine that allows you
deck thin and get a much needed Spellbook card from
you deck. Many players consider running cards like
this more often than not because they can
essentially be ANOTHER copy of that card. In that
mind set, it allows you to see the needed card more
often.
Although this card has some
restrictions to it, it is a new and interesting
archetype nonetheless.
Pros: Searches any “Spellbook”
card in your deck.
Cons: Cannot search for another
copy of itself and can only be activated once per
turn.
