Were Wind-Ups too powerful? Perhaps...they were
hella fast, that much is for sure, but they are a
whole lot slower with Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity being
Restricted. You wouldn't be surprised at all to see
two or even three of these little guys in a Wind-Up
Deck. It's a Rank 3 XYZ Monster, who is XYZ
Summoned with two Level 3 Monsters. This is a Water
attributed Machine with 1500 attack and defense.
Once per turn, you can detach an XYZ Material from
this Monster to Special Summon a Wind-Up Monster
from your Hand OR Deck. Simply incredible right
there. The speed this added to Wind-Ups was crazy,
and lets you accomplish or at least set up about
whatever you want. Furthermore, when a face-up
Wind-Up Monster is on the Field and destroyed and
sent to the Graveyard (save the Damage Step) you can
detach an XYZ Material from this Monster to return
that Monster to your Hand. I really like this
effect too, being able to replay a Wind-Up although
returning your own cards to your Hand isn't usually
the best way to go about things. Here it could be
awesome. The only real downside to the Carrier is
the 1500 attack, but this card shows how powerful a
card can be without having a large attack score.

No one likes a deck that can strip you of all of
your cards, which is why everyone hated Wind-Up
decks. Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity along with Wind-Up
Hunter created a loop by which you could strip 3
cards from your opponents hand. More if you had Pot
of Avarice or Tour Bus. All you needed was a Tour
Guide and a Wind-Up Shark in hand to start the loop.
You would summon Tour Guide, special summon Tour
Bus, Xyz into Zenmaity, detach Guide to get Hunter,
special summon Wind-Up Shark, pop Zenmaity to snatch
a card from your opponents hand, return Zenmaity to
the extra deck with Bus’s effect, make Shark a level
3, Xyz into another Zenmaity, detach Hunter to get
Rat, use Rat to get Hunter, pop Zenmaity for another
card, Xyz into another Zenmaity and do it again
until you run out of Zenmaitys.
Needless to say, Wind-Ups got a lot of hate. Now
that Wind-Up Zenmaity is at one, the hand
destruction loop is no longer feared. Now all you
have to fear is all of the powerful Xyz monsters
that Wind-Ups can produce due to the special
summoning effects of Wind-Up Magician and the
searching effect of Wind-Up Factory. Wind-Up
Zenmaity is still a great card for Wind-Ups, but
like the card we reviewed yesterday, it is just not
as powerful when it is limited to only one in the
deck.

If there ever was a card that I am happy see
limited to 1, it's today's card, Wind-Up Zenmaity. A
Rank 3 WATER/Machine-Type Xyz, needing any 2 level 3
monsters. With 1500 ATK and DEF.
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz material monster
from this card: Special summon 1 Wind-Up monster
from your hand or deck. When a face up Wind-Up
monster on the field is destroyed and sent to your
graveyard (Except during the Damage Step): You can
detach one Xyz material from this card to target
that monster: return that target to your hand.
I'll admit, I was a little bit surprised that
Zenmaity was not out right on the Forbidden list,
but I understand why it was limited to 1. You are
all familiar with The Wind-Ups and especially the
infamous Wind-Up loop. It was a good call having
this card go to 1. It's Xyz summoning is easily met
in a Wind-Up deck, as easy as summoming Wind-Up Rat.
They are still a deck to contend with and it shows.
Don't let the limiting of this Zenmiaty fool you,
the entire deck is not to be taken lightly as the
Wind-Up archtype can still swarm the field and take
you out if you're not paying attention.
