Continuing our look at Return of the Duelist cards,
I'll note we're only looking at cards today and
tomorrow, but I wish everyone out there a very happy
Memorial Day. Whether you happen to be working
(like me) or not. Today we look at Temperance of
Prophecy, another excellent little Spellcaster for
your Spellbook Deck. This is a Level 3 Monster
(obviously a Spellcaster, albeit a bit wicked
looking) for some reason an Earth Monster (Spellcasters
should about only be Light or Dark) and Level 3,
with 1000 attack and defense. But that's irrelevant
as you're likely only using this for the effect.
You can tribute this card during your Main Phase
(if you activated a Spellbook Magic card this turn,
to Special Summon a Level 5 or higher, Light or Dark
type Spellcaster Monster from your Deck. Dark
Magician instantly comes to mind here, but as for
others...I mean, Chaos Command Magician maybe, I've
seen him pop up occasionally in Spellcaster Decks.
Cybernetic Magician isn't a bad option, Different
Dimension Master would be a fun choice, Dark
Magician Girl, Prophecy Destroyer (another new
Spellcaster from the set), which about wraps it up.
There are other options, but these would be the
"best" but I'd say you're probably looking at Dark
Magician or Prophecy Destroyer. Anyway, in
addition, you can't Special Summon a Level 5 or
higher Monster during the turn you activate this
effect. Balances this card out I suppose, and you
can still (obviously) Special Summon below that.

There is one card that I purposely left out of
Friday’s High Priestess of Prophecy review and that
is Temperance of Prophecy, saving it for today. In a
Prophecy deck, Temperance can easily summon the
Priestess from you deck. It can also summon Prophecy
Destroyer. As you can see, in a Prophecy/Spellbook
deck, Temperance of Prophecy is a mainstay.
Temperance of Prophecy can also be used in many
other Spellcaster decks, like Dark Magician,
Gravekeeper’s (Visionary), and Spell Counter
(Magical Marionette) decks. Some other useful
monsters to use with Temperance and Spellbooks are
Endymion the Master Magician and Sorciere de Fleur.
Temperance of Prophecy also makes for some good Xyz
summoning. Use it to special summon a level 5,6,7,
or 8 monster and then special summon Gagaga Magician
as she is less than a level 5 monster, and then make
her level the same to Xyz for that Rank. In a
Prophecy/Spellbook deck, this means that we can Xyz
summon Hierophant of Prophecy, Legendary Magician of
Dark, or even Number 11: Big Eye. With Gagaga
Magician and Temperance of Prophecy in a deck with
Spellbooks, Xyz summoning becomes easy and quite
fun.
While not powerful in itself and dependant on
Spellbooks, Temperance of Prophecy is still a big
boon to Spellcasters everywhere.

Two things. 1: I hope
you all are enjoying your Labor day, you slackers.
2: We have a mega short week, only today and
tomorrow and shall return next tuesday. Number 6 on
the list is one of top reasons why Dark Magician of
Chaos will most likely never return. Temperance of
Prophecy. A level 3 EARTH/Spellcaster with both 1000
for ATK and DEF.
During your main phase, if you have activated a "Spellbook"
Spell card previously this turn: You can tribute
this card; special summon 1 level 5 or higher LIGHT
or DARK Spellcaster-type monster from your deck. You
cannot special summon another level 5 or higher
monster during the turn you activated this effect.
Temperance is one of those cards that can add to a
swarm of high level Spellcasters. Simply activate
Spellbook of Life to get High Priestess of Prophecy,
and then tribute Temperance to get another High
Preistess/Dark Magician. Or use Spellbook of Power
on another Spellcaster you control and tribute
Temperance. If your opponent summons this guy, get
ready cause he's not staying on the field too long.
The best way to stop him are to use cards like
Torrential Tribute and Effect Veiler.
