Abyss-Scorn could leave your opponent rather scorn, couldn't it? This is a Normal Trap that targets a Mermail Monster you control and awards it with an extra 1000 attack until the End Phase. That's a nice surprise, and it comes too with a bonus of not destroying your Monster after use, or anything like that. However, the card does remain a -1, but could break even at least in terms of Field advantage if you were to destroy an opponent's Monster by using it. But it can be a 1-for-1 if you get the second effect off. If destroyed while face-down, you get to target an opponent's Monster on the Field to the Graveyard. Not much else to say here, if you feel like your Mermail Deck could use one, go ahead, but I wouldn't use more than one.

If you like wacky hair styles in your Yuigoh artwork, then today's card, Abyss-Scorn is for you. A normal trap card, when activated, you target 1 Mermail monster you control and it gains 1000 ATK until the endphase. It's second effect is different and can be effective. When this set card (MUST BE FACE DOWN) is sent to the graveyard, you target 1 monster your opponent controls, and send it to the graveyard. The first effect is alright, as 1000 ATK point boost is always welcome and can help overcome a bigger problem, or just push for more damage. The 2nd effect is more versatile. As you can get around pretty much anything, even Stardust Dragon, because Abyss-Scorn is not destroying anything. You don't even have to wait for your opponent to destroy it while it's set, as you can do it yourself and get rid of an opponent's monster in the meantime. This card is not totally necessary in a Mermail deck, but it could be a great way to have your opponent waste their resources to get rid of this, only to lose one of their monsters in the process.

Obskera

Today we are looking at: Abyss-scorn

"Target 1 "Mermail" monster you control; it gains 1000 ATK until the End Phase. When this Set card is sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 monster your opponent controls; send that target to the Graveyard."

I have used this card since it came out for a simple reason, it takes an abysspike that is essentially a one hit wonder, and makes him into a a giant beatstick. You can even destroy it yourself with Mystical Space Typhoon, if you don't have a mermail on the field. However, the number one reason I love this card is the mind games it creates. Say I run abyss sphere, squall, scorn (I do run all 3.) and I have an abyss pike/sturge on the field, you can either risk the damage step scorn, or risk hitting one of my chainable cards.

Call me crazy, but any card that has that many uses, and makes my opponent second guess himself, is a winner in my book. I honestly think this is going to be a sleeper hit. (Atleast until Spellbooks get boosted next set.)

Abyss-scorn
Normal Trap Card

So this card is another Mermail support card and it actually isn’t too bad. It’s a trap card that you can activate in the damage step to raise your Mermail monster’s attack by 1000 until the end phase. That isn’t too bad of an effect but this card can also send an opponent’s monster to the grave if it is destroyed while set. That’s a pretty nice effect. The only thing that could’ve made this card better is if you could send any card from the opponent’s side of the field to the grave. I think the only reason this card isn’t used in most Mermail decks is because it’s not really needed in the deck. It really is a solid card that may actually see play in Mermail decks eventually.

Advanced: 3.25/5
-It’s not bad but isn’t needed in the Mermails right now.

Traditional: 2/5
-I probably wouldn’t play a Mermail deck in this format but this card could be okay here.

Art: 3/5
-This card’s art is a little strange but it’s okay.

Abyss-scorn
Normal Trap
Target 1 "Mermail" monster you control; it gains 1000 ATK until the End Phase. When this Set card is sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 monster your opponent controls; send that target to the Graveyard.

Next, we have Abyss-scorn, a trap card for the Mermail archetype. The first thing to note about Abyss-scorn is that it has two effects, 1 if you activate it and for when it is set. First off is the regular effect, simply 1 face up Mermail you control gains a 1 turn 1000 ATK boost. There is nothing wrong with an extra 1000 ATK boost even if it is for just 1 turn.

The second effect is activated when this Set card is sent to the grave. This is already a good thing as it doesn’t matter how this card gets to the grave as long as it was Set. Anyways, if this does happen you can target 1 monster the opponent controls and send it to the grave. This is a great effect, for three reasons; first, the opponent monster can be in any position so no need to worry if the card is face up or not. Second it sends not destroys so thing like Stardust Dragon are powerless against it. Thirdly, it does require a Mermail to be on the field, so it is splashable.

Overall a great card with 2 great effects and it’s splashable which improves its playability
