Coach Soldier Wolfbark closes this week and bring us to halfway on the countdown.  There are a few Coach Soldiers in this set, with various, yet similar effects for different elements and/or archtypes.  This guy is a bit overrated I think, but not bad.  Fire, Beast-Warrior, Level 4, with 1600 attack and 1200 defense.  He's not winning many contests there.  This guy is pretty much used to bring out an XYZ or Synchro form the Extra Deck in Fire Fist or some other Fire theme, if possible.  Once per turn, you can target (note target) a Fire, Beast-Warrior, Level 4 Monster from your Graveyard and Special Summon it to your Field in face-up defense position.  It's effect(s) is(are) negated, but that's not a big deal.  Honestly, he's a little unnecessary for Fire Fist I think.  He helps, but that Deck is so fast as is, I just don't see a place for this guy.

Number 6 on our top 10 cards from Judgement of The Light is Coach Soldier Wolfbark. Coach Soldier Wolfbark belongs to the Coach archetype; a series of new FIRE Warriors and Beast-Warriors. Coach Soldier Wolfbark is an average enough card stats wise, 1600 ATK and 1200 DEF is nothing game-breaking for a level 4 but not rubbish either.
His effect is simple, Target 1 Level 4 FIRE Beast-Warrior-Type monster in your Graveyard and Special Summon it in face-up Defense Position. This card is mainly going to see play in Fire Fist decks and is solely designed to get out Rank 4 Xyz monsters easily (a common trend). There isn’t really anything else to say about this card really.

Overall a decent support card but only really useful if you use a lot of Fire/Beast-Warriors.

Philosophical
Psycho

There are currently fourteen Level 4 Fire Beast-Warriors. Eight are Fire Fists, two are Fire Kings two are 1800/600 beatsticks that really aren’t good for much else, one is Gladiator Beast Laquari, and the last one is this guy Wolfbark. At 1600/1200, it seems like a pretty ok monster, a statement reinforced by the looks of its scrawny, bony body. Being of such stature, you can search him easily using Fire Fist – Tiger King, Fire Formation – Tenki, or Onslaught of the Fire Kings. But what to do when you actually get him? Once per turn, you can use a Wolfbark to grab one of the above monsters and summon it in a very non-scary effect-less Defence Position. Of course, you’re meant to use Wolfbark with your newly summoned monster and Xyz Rank 4 right away. You should be packing Wolfbarks in triplet in your Fire Fist and Fire King Decks (probably not Gladiator Beast), as in these Decks, Normal Summoning Wolfbark is practically playing just about any Rank 4 monster you want right out of your hand.

Wolfbark is so commonly used in this manner (Normal Summoning him and then directly becoming Xyz Material) that I nearly neglected that he works like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and can be used once per turn. If Special Summoned in a manner like Monster Reborn, Summon Monk, etc., you can still use his effect at any time during the Main Phase. In fact, if you decide to keep him on the field, you can revive a new monster turn after turn. This drastically increases your field presence if you can prevent Wolfbark from being run over (Fire Formation cards help with this). My friend said that this can help provide a continuous supply of food to activate Scrap Dragon’s effect. My first paragraph describes Wolfbark’s most powerful use, and the second paragraph is something handy that you could have to help you keep your advantage if you already have it. He’s a short, simple, annoying addition to a very specific group of cards.

Aesthetics: 3/5 Wolfbark is one of four Coach monsters that had very complicated name changes from Japanese to English. You’re supposed to use Coach Soldier Wolfbark (Enthusiastic Beast Master Wolfbark in Japanese) to summon another Beast-Warrior, then you Normal Summon Coach Captain Bearman (Enthusiastic Beast King Bearman) to change all of them into Level 8. You can do a triple Rank 8 Xyz into Coach King Giantrainer (Enthusiastic Coach King Giantrainer) and then use Rank-Up Magic Barian’s Force to do a Chaos Evolution into CXyz Coach Lord Ultimatrainer (Enthusiastic Coach God Giantrainer). They’re supposed to be the “Enthusiastics.” Giantrainer’s art is designed around sports, so it’s interesting to name him “Coach,” but then they gave it to the Beast-Warriors as well. That said, I think it’s interesting the Beast Master got turned into a Soldier. He has those cute goggles that Bearman also wears, and his thin body has a distinctive ferocious stance that reinforces the idea he’s a simple soldier, some swarming peon.

We continue our Top 10 Judgment of the Light Countdown with our #6 card, Coach Soldier Wolfbark:

Level 4
FIRE
Beast-Warrior / Effect
1600 ATK / 1200 DEF
You can target 1 Level 4 FIRE Beast-Warrior-Type monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it in face-up Defense Position. Its effects are negated. You can only use the effect of "Coach Solider Wolfbark" once per turn.

I actually had this guy much higher on my list, because he is a key component in the 4-Axis Fire Fist build; admittedly, I am not as familiar with this build as I am with the 3-Axis build, but I hear that, while not as popular as 3-Axis, it is still consistent and powerful (and from what I hear more versatile). His stats are identical to Bear (which can be hard to deal with when used in the FF Deck), right down to the Type and Attribute. But what’s important is his effect; once per turn he can bring back a Level 4 FIRE Beast-Warrior from your Graveyard, but its effects are negated. Now on the surface it should be very obvious what he does for the Deck. Instant Rank 4’s (Tiger King and Cardinal in particular). But if you grab a Tuner, such as Boar, then you can create Crimson Blader or BotFF – Kirin (but not much else, since you’re restricted to FIRE monsters).

But there’s one other thing about Wolfbark that’s very important: it is NOT a Trigger effect. It is Ignition. In other words, it is not restricted to his summoning, but rather can be done each turn as long as he survives. A small detail, but very important. If you can keep Wolfbark alive you have the capacity to quickly spit out Extra Deck monsters.

4-Axis builds were actually doing better in the OCG during this format than 3-Axis, but this may be in part due to the presence of Evilswarm, which 3-Axis can have problems against. Only time will tell which build proves more popular in the upcoming format, but I personally think that both will be solid contenders, and Wolfbark is vital to the 4-Axis build.
